Merit Chevrolet is the worst. They do not operate with honesty or integrity and they tried to con me into paying $2,200 for repairs that were NOT necessary for my vehicle. I brought my Chevy Equinox 2020 in due to a check engine light coming on after the freezing temperatures as I had purchased my extended warranty through them when buying out my lease. They had no issues ripping me off for the $200 diagnostic fee after going in with a common code P0299 that this make and model see in cold weather. I told Scott, my "service advisor" all about the code and error message my vehicle displayed. He said they'd need to take it in and run diagnostics. I brought my car in at 7am and got a call around 2:46pm. I was told about "all this work" that needed to be done and that my warranty would not cover it and it would cost $2,200 to fix everything. I was shocked but something didn't sit right. I told them no, I'd go some where else. I called the warranty provider Zurich to ask some questions. They found NO RECORD of a claim being filed OR record that anyone besides me called to discuss my coverage so fun fact, the dealership LIED about calling but were obviously familiar enough with my issue to know it wasn't covered. They still had to audacity to charge me the $200 diagnostic fee! AGAIN which was presented to Scott from the beginning. To make the matter worse, I called a local family owned garage to explain my issue. Over the phone the shop owner asked me about the code and error... he then said this is a known issue with my make and model vehicle and as long as that is the issue the fix would be a $9 part and about an hour tops for labor. He also provided a GM alert that was sent to his shop THREE YEARS ago about this issue and printed it for me. I am not a mechanic but I'd expect a GM dealership to know more about their vehicles quirks/issues over a local family owned shop. I have attempted to contact Merit Chevrolet on this issue with zero response! I want my money back for the unnecessary diagnostics. I had purchased two infotainment centers from Merritt Chevrolet parts department. I was told to bring them back for a color deposit $175 which I did the parts department refused to refund my money on the second core. I informed them I had the entire piece minus a cover for the led display. I was told that does matter they just need something to return for a core. enclosed is a photo of what I returned. the first gentleman I spoke with was very courtesy and professional. then I dealt with Paul and I immediately got his usual attitude. he said he couldn't return it. enough is enough. I told him no reason to be a dick about this. I had already cleared this return with his supervisor. he threw the unit across the counter and said I'm not dealing with this and I was to come back another time. it's a 40 minute drive round trip. this guy has got to go. I'm calling GM headquarters to finish this return. this staff is consistently unprofessional. in the baCk a woman was laughing and there were inappropriate comments being made about that. I'm really torn about giving Merit a 2 or 3 star. My husband and I were truck shopping, and overall we had an INITIALLY good experience; however, it quickly unraveled. Thankfully, the senior manager was able to help clean sweep, which warrants a 3 star review. My husband had called (on a Saturday) to set up an appointment to stop and see one particular truck. Through a series of major miscommunications, we were told to come back on Sunday to see the truck. Unfortunately, because Merit has an employee loan program, not all of their cars/trucks are on the lot (e.g., they are with the employee, who may not be working or available). So, we wasted a Sunday visit as the truck wasn't there (but with the employee in WI) after all. We then put down a $500 deposit to see that truck on Monday at 5 pm, as that was the one we wanted to purchase. Turns out, the employee sold it unofficially so when we came back Monday for our appointment, the truck was SOLD and gone. Heads were about to fly. We were pissed that this was our 3rd time expressing interest in the truck and that we had wasted so much time coming in several days in a row. I wanted to walk away and not give Merit $28-30,000 in business, but after my husband finally calmed down, he settled for a different truck. They took off a small discount but overall, really disappointed with the poor communication, ridiculous employee loan program, and customer service. They gave us an extended warranty program at a discount too, which we appreciated. So, before you waste lots of time, make sure the vehicle you want is really there. And stays there. We were given this dealership as a recommendation. Our salesperson was good and helped us negotiate a good sale price. Don't shop on weekends. Banks are not open which may cause delays in taking your vehicle home. The financing people could have done a better job explaining the loan and when for payments are due. Recently bought a very low mileage 2019 Equinox from Merit. The salesman, Mike Salmon was very easy to deal with. Had a problem within a couple days and returned to get it repaired. Some hidden damage was found and the entire staff was very helpful in getting it corrected. They provided a loaner and repaired the problem in just a few hours. Chuck Williams, in service, was very helpful along with the sales manager and service manager. All agreed that it was not my problem and that it would be totally corrected - and it was. It all started Tuesday afternoon when I dropped my 2016 Cruze off for an oil change and new tires. I was quoted 2 hours and it took 4 hours. Next when I got my car, there was a very bad shaking. Bad balancing happens so I brought it back Wednesday. They said it would be an hour, 2 1/2 hours later it was done. I drove it down the road and took it straight back because the shaking got worse. It is now Saturday, the shaking continues and I get a bunch of excuses on "we have a bad balancer". 5 days for getting new tires?! Don't waste your time here. Not going to mention names but...cough...Rosedale...cough. I refused to give that dealership another dime of my money so I sought recommendations and Merit kept coming up from numerous people, so I decided to check it out. From start to finish, friendly service, prompt responses and the guy at the dealership took every opportunity to try to save me some money. It is that kind of service that I greatly appreciate and will keep me coming back. The only recommended change I would have is a more detailed report of the checks you did on my car and any recommended maintenance. As a new Minnesotan I needed to find somewhere to get my car serviced and I knew I couldn't get it done just anywhere. At home in Wisconsin my family has their trusty old Chevy dealership that my dad has bought every car at since the 70s. Needless to say, Merit fills the void of taking my car to the old faithful. It is never hard to get an appointment even if it is at the last minute. You can even book online. Any parts I have ever needed so far have also been in stock so I have been able to avoid waiting for my vehicle to be repaired. Technicians are willing to do whatever it takes to make sure that all of your problems are taken care of before you drive your car off the lot. Merit also offers a car service if you have somewhere to be while your vehicle is being serviced. I've never used it but I can imagine it is very helpful. Vehicle maintenance is stressful and expensive. You might as well go somewhere that you can trust to make the experience more bearable. I go to Merit. ******UPDATE****** One, or 2 or is it 3 bad experiences?... Brought my car in on a Wednesday AM for flat tire, it was "repaired" by 10:30 AM. I was told "I wouldn't have any more problems with that tire." It flat again when I came out of work at 6pm. Got the car back from Merit at 9pm, and the tire was flat before 8am on Thursday morning. Bad quality assurance? To be positive and fair; Merit did cover 2 of the 3 tow trucks I had to call. Still undecided on whether or not I will return. read more

My daughter had dropped our car for service and also for another noise coming from the brake.The tech did what he did but the noise still didn't go away. I called back and I was told by Brock to drop the car they check. The car was dropped again in the morning and by 5,pm nobody had called me. I called only to be told they need to fix brakes and rotors for almost 300 and change.I said no because previously I had paid over$280.I go to pick my car sign papers and wait for my car to be brought nothing. I went back to check with the customer service only to be told they are looking for the keys. The next thing I was told they are putting the tire back. Who had told them to remove the tires? I felt frustrated and treated unfairly maybe because of my color .To crown it all a young man who is not a technician drove my car to me. I would give 10 stars to the Merit service department and Chuck if I could. We live in Wisconsin and were driving into the Cities when our Equinox tried to die on I-94 near the 494 interchange. It was 96 degrees, we were 60 miles from home and we had a dead Chevy. The service department was busy but they took the car in immediately. We needed parts that would take several days to get (it turned out to be 2 weeks). Chuck got us into a loaner and kept it touch with us while we waited for parts. To assess a driveability concern in my car, and at Merit's request, a Chevrolet regional technical service representative was present to test drive my car. He did and then discussed his conclusions with me, the service manager and service tech. I was satisfied with his conclusions and the results of our meeting. Merit has gone the extra mile for me and devoted a lot of their time to my concern. Their communication with me has always been friendly, prompt and very open. So not only to have a piss poor experience with buying my car from merit there body shop sucks to. would advise anyone taking there car here to get fixed for body work to take it some where else unless you want cheap work that a child could do better work had to argue with the body shop about damage they did while it was there they treated the car like it was ready for a demo derby or going to the junk yard ive been in auto body for 20 yrs no longer do it but had to point out things that they should have caught them self's the car for the whole period took 21/2 months to fix they put a bumper on that had dents in it that was new the bumper looked like a soft ball hail dent and they where just going to let it go that way i mean the hood hung over the front bumper a good inch to two the rear bumper still does not match the quarter panels on either side the corner by the tires are still hanging out past the quarters they dint even paint the under side of the hood until i complained then they took that off and painted it in that process they dented that witch was a brand new hood and dinged the fender while changing the tail light they wrecked the inner trunk lining witch they did finally fix and alot more when they did and after everything they said with the dent in the hood and rear bumper not matching up its a used car that looks nice just drive it or trade it in. So after all this the head light they put in doesn't match called the insurance company back and they said to have them put a factory light back in it the one they put in was after market and has a pretty noticeable difference so when i called they said they would not work on the car anymore and was told to find a different shop to put one in when asked about the warranty on there work they said they were not going to honor it. So long story short they screwed up got held accountable for there mistakes and to get back they wont cover anything. They rotated my tires but didn't drive the car afterward so they didn't know that the rotation caused serious shaking of the steering wheel. I had to come back to have them put the tires back into original positions. They didn't refund me any of the costs. At the first appointment, they asked if I wanted my wipers replaced. I said yes, if they need it. Several days later it rained, and I could see that the wipers are in terrible condition; they had not been replaced. I'm not happy at all with this "service." I wasn't going to throw a huge fit at first over the horrible customer service, and I wasn't going to name names, but I went back to pick up my Truck when I was charged $260 for an oil change and had the WORST customer experience of my life. When I first dropped off my truck to Jessica she was rude, wouldn't let me talk, and didn't answer or help me with any of the questions I had. Then after 2 days I still hadn't received a phone call on my truck, so I had to PERSONALLY call them for them to blame me on how low my oil was, THEY JUST CHECKED IT PRIOR BUT ITS MY FAULT. Following that ordeal once I get there then Jessica rudely threw the paper at me saying I owe $260 for a OIL CHANGE AND LABOR. ALL THEY DID WAS CHANGE MY OIL AND IT TOOK THEM OVER 2 DAYS!! I tried calling Mike the service manager but all he did was transfer me to Jessica, NO MIKE I CALLED TO TALK TO YOU. NOBODY WILL TALK TO ME AND IM FURIOUS AT HOW HORRIBLE THE CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS! The service department here is a complete and utter joke. My dad, mom, and brother have been customers here for well over a decade but they have caused us so many headaches and problems over the years that they have lost our business. My personal experiences here which I am reviewing have been poor to say the least. The last time I bought my car here for a scheduled oil change, I ran into a litany of serious issues. Not only did my scheduled oil change take way too long, but a female service supervisor informed me that my total would be nearly $90 for a simple oil change which I usually get the same change at another GM dealership for less than $50. After my dad and I inquired why the price was so high, the female service supervisor as well as other service staff were quite rude to us and adamant we received the correct price. My dad is a former GM employee and he and I had to argue with them for almost 15 minutes telling them they charged us way too much for an oil change. When they finally realized we knew what we were talking about and that we were not going to be bulldozed over or get the runaround from them, they finally refunded me $25. They also did not bother to put on the sticker in the windshield telling you when the next oil change is needed. This place will overcharge, make you wait, and do a lackluster job on top of it all. I highly suggest you get your vehicle serviced almost anywhere else because their service department does not deserve to get any of our hard earned money until they shape up. read more

I've always gone to Merit Chevrolet, I grew up on the east side and even since moving away I always spoke well of them. I bought my 2013 Captiva from them and I was on my way home from work and the emergency STOP ENGINE LIGHT came on. It so happened a main engine seal was blown. I then brought it to a local mechanic, they found a special coverage adjustment cosistent with various GM vehicles (including mine) and said it should be covered through the Chevy dealership. I then called Merit for help, I spoke to Dwayne, who asked me to tow the vehicle from my local mechanic (over 30 miles) and begin the repairs. Prior to sending my vehicle to Merit, I specifically recieved confirmation that they would be covering all or atleast some of the repairs. The special coverage adjustment GM released was for a plugged PCV Orifice # 14882 (WHICH CAUSED MY PROBLEM), however my VIN was not included as a covered vehicle, although my vehicle was the same year make and model. I then recieved one of the most unappolegetic and robotic phone calls from GM Corporate. A person I never talked with prior who told me they would have nothing to offer me. My car which i still make payments for, that only had 16k miles on at purchase (and 85k now) was deemed not their problem. I have never felt so dehumanized by a company that for so long I admired (GM, Chevy). Bruce Maples (Service Director) then got invovled to say we can fix the problem for 2500.00 but since since I was a loyal customer he could take off 500$. I contacted my local mechanic, who told me he could make the repairs for 1500$ so I had it towed back to them. Even though Merit insisted I tow it their originally, they had no interest in even helping it be towed out. I would not send my worst enemy there. Worst customer service Ive ever experienced. It took them 2 weeks to give me a legitmate answer stating they would not be fixing the issue, all the while I had no car and never offered me a loaner. A main question I have, which hasnt been answered "Why is my VIN not covered but others are?" Gone are the good ol' days when Wes was there and customer service meant something. BAD TASTE. You'd think that a dealership wouldn't have a problem working this type of deal.....well Reid, the Business manager couldn't wrap his head around the process. Then when I attempted to explain how the process works, because I've been in the business, he was extremely rude, interruptive and condescending. Then the salesman agreed to fix the radio and once it was determined the entire Navigation radio needed to be replaced they said they wouldn't do it and didn't offer any type of solution to help get the radio fixed. I'm sure people have had great experiences at this store however mine was one of the worst tied with White Bear Lincoln Mercury. Both of these stores need to step back and look at a little thing called customer service. I feel their integrity is extremely lacking please use extreme caution doing business here. read more

I only chose 1 star because NO STARS is not available. I tell my story to anyone who will listen and I just heard a Merit commercial on the radio and their ads remind me of this every time. I was in the market for a 3/4 ton truck to pull my camper with, they MADE me make an appt. to test drive it on a Saturday now almost three years ago. I told them then I have never made an appt. to test drive a vehicle, again they insisted. We drove from Coon Rapids to Maplewood, which is actually at the very bottom of Maplewood, so it was a good 30 mile drive. We met with some twelve year old sales guy and I explained I had an appt to test drive this truck. He looked bewildered and he was. He went off to find a manager who came back to tell us the OWNER had the truck out on personal business and he didn't know where he was. I was livid, not only was the truck I wanted to look at not there but they did not offer to take a look at another vehicle in the lot, nor did they apologize for wasting my time. Screw you Merit and I have told this story at least 100 times in those three years, again to anyone that will listen. I stopped on my way back to Coon Rapids from Merit and bought a truck from the kind folks at White Bear GMC. I wasn't shopping guys I was buying! I hope you have lost many sales in spreading my word of your cruddy service and policies. read more

I'm not happy with how Merit's handled a warranty issue. The 2008 Saturn Aura was purchased at Merit's in January 2012. In July 2012 Merit's replaced, at no charge, a power door lock switch under a GM one year extended warranty package. On April 11, 2013, 9 months later, I returned the car for the same issue. I was charged $133 to diagnose the problem. Surprisingly, it was a defective power door lock switch! Since the switch was only 9 months old, I assumed it would be replaced under a parts warranty. That was not the case. The parts warranty is for 12 months/12K miles, whichever comes first. The car was driven 12,395 miles since the switch replacement, so it did not qualify for warranty. So, because I was 395 miles over the warranty, the charge for the switch repair going to be ~$240, plus the $133 diagnostic fee for a total of $373. I told them not to replace the switch. Hey, technically I understand... they were following the rules. But considering the car was purchased at Merits, I was paying the $133 diagnostic fee and I was having other work done on the car that day that cost ~$200 you'd think there would be some sort of "goodwill" concession. That was NOT the case and I'm NOT a happy customer! read more
