But equally as important to us was choosing a great wedding photographer who would capture our day, our love, family and the details that went into every decision made while planning our big day. We set out to find a photographer the same week. We did not know Benjamin but had seen his work among 3 other professional wedding photographers that we contacted. Two things we knew: one, we knew that we wanted someone who had proven strengths as a wedding photographer and two, we knew there would be cost for quality. I am not going to lie, it was not easy choosing. We have some amazing talent in Central Oregon and I know of the handful of photographers that we considered, we most likely would have been pleased with their work as individual artists. We chose Benjamin for a few reasons that stood out after looking at his work and interviewing him. He does have a talent for working with light that is pretty amazing. He has an eye for capturing the emotion of not only people but of the scene. He was quick to tailor our wedding package to our needs as well as including our engagement session as a gift. I think the engagement session is a must for any photographer to be able to get to know their clients and how photogenic or un-photogenic they are, their humor, their chemistry etc. For a photographer to know this importance to the point of including a pre-session of sorts as automatic is telling. My husband and I first hired Josh to take a family portrait. Husband and I take a family photo each year on or around our anniversary. In the past we've relied on selfies, our camera's timer, or a friend/neighbor/whoever is around (ie, the server whatever restaurant we're at) to take the photo. This year we decided to treat ourselves to an upgrade and have a professional portrait taken, since we hadn't had professional photos taken since our wedding. We couldn't have been more pleased with the experience! Josh came to our home (Josh helped us chose the location for the shoot...we got married in our backyard so this made perfect sense) and found the perfect setting in front of our house. He shot from a few different angles and even managed to get our dogs to cooperate! Considering that my husband and I are both fairly stiff in front of a camera, Josh managed to make us feel relaxed and comfortable. The second time I worked with Josh was for my professional headshots. Josh and I chatted before the shoot, he wanted to know what sort of professional image I wanted to portray. From there, he translated my "wish list" into reality and captured exactly what I'd envisioned: a softer, outdoor, non-stuffy headshot. While his work speaks for itself, I have no reservations in recommending Josh to anyone/everyone who asks me about the photos he's taken for us.
