We live in a world that shares so much negative, positivism is almost scorned. Because if the…read moremajority is miserable, then anything above that is showing off. Urban communities. Urban communities are targets for this "crab and a barrel" mentality, where once someone decides they want better for themselves, their past is reinforced to keep said person in a pattern of stagnant so growth will not occur. #EvolutionOpenMic held every 2nd and 4th Thursday at 211 Gallery is a Godsend to an environment like this. About 2-3 years ago, I attended their open mic event at The Cage on 315 Mt. Pleasant Ave in Newark, NJ. Now located in 211 Gallery, I am still attending and performing; something I never thought I could do. It was the support and appreciation for me as an artist from the curators of these events, the dynamic Professor Sean Battle, and the Incredibly gifted Kween Moore, that helped me expand beyond my own limitations to become more of the art on the outside, like I am on the inside. This place is a place of meditation and creation not only for adults who are artists, but for children. Yes, there is violence everywhere, and Newark is a partaker in it, but that is NOT what Newark is. I believe that one has the power to create their own reality. The message that 211 sends is you were not born just to work, pay bills, and die. You were born for much more. Come to one of the events and I garauntee your whole vibration change on what it really means to live in your purpose.
