While I appreciate what the center does, the staff & security are atrocious, condescending and…read more(specifically security) and speak down & disenfranchise the homeless and disabled. - There are NO disabled parking spots available because the staff openly parks in them and tells people in wheelchairs and with oxygen tanks (saw this first hand) to PARK down the street. It is 103 degrees. - Too much staff standing around and talking, not enough actual help. - I hate to leave a 1 star review but they get away with what they do because the people that utilize the facility don't want to risk being kicked out or face more discrimination from the employees. - I am leaving 3 stars because what they do is important but there needs to be better oversight and some sort of training on how to DE-ESCALATE situations (specifically the woman photographed that literally chased down my husband saying "do we have a problem)?" - Also, training in FEDERAL ADA Law and MEDICAL TRAINING for how to deal with mental illness & disability for staff to de ecalate and assist in situations should be MANDATORY at facilities like these. - Being scolded like a child or spoken to like a dog is unacceptable. - Final note, a social worker calling a trangender woman a HE, telling security to "Help HIM and get HIS things" is not okay; some sensitivity training could go a long way at this location.

Grandma's House of Hope - Staff bonding day

I stayed at this transitional shelter in 2017-2018. While the rules are what you expect of any…read moreshelter one thing that stayed with me is the founder's ethics. When there was a problem with a staff member falsely accusing me of drug use (I had been in the hospital the night before and I had proof), Je'net Kreitner made the situation right instead of standing up for staff member's accusation. That has stayed with me especially since I've been in two shelters with unethical staff members who treat their program guests badly. While Grandma's House of Hope can be a little strict with their program, I always felt safe while I stayed there and NEVER felt bullied by staff or the one in charge of the temporary shelter. I would rather pay a program fee than stay at an abusive temporary shelter for free. Assuming the program is similar now to how it was when I stayed there in 2017-2018 you'll be in good hands. You do get assigned chores but you'll never fear for your safety here and they keep their word. If they allowed me to go back I would in a heartbeat as I am in a temporary bind again (after my dad sold the house)! However, I'm a Buena Park resident and things changed due to COVID I'm assuming so I had to stay in a Buena Park shelter instead. Thank you Grandma's House of Hope!

I honestly would have given this place a five star, but I've been here for almost a year now and…read morethe ladies who recently just got hired for the women's program are so horribly fake & VERY uncompassionate. I was ONE month away from getting my housing and they did everything possible to take me out of Community Leader position, and kick me out of the house saying I had a 'behavior problem' when I would stick up for myself. Not to mention I've had mail stolen from them & they packed all my belongings in my room without my consent & they lost my W2 FORM. Completely unprofessional & the women who work here in the house of SERENITY are very immature.

I'm disappointed the Paws Work's would let sick animals be adopted. AndI believe the staff at Pet…read moreSmart the fed them and cleaned their litter box would have heard them sneeze and cough. On 12/17/23 we adopted 2 orange tabby kittens from Paw Works in side Pet Smart. As we were putting them in the crate 1 sneezed. By the time we got home they sneezed 4 or 5 times. I told my son to make a vet appointment as soon as possible. I thought they had Upper respiratory infections. He took them on Tuesday 12/19/23 and they were both put on antibiotics. Then Saturday 12/23/23 the smaller of the 2 not showing much improvement ( now having watering eye and wheezing) with our local vet out of town we took him to the emergency vet. Where he received a bit more medication. I guess they are lucky we have them . Instead of being sick and ignored in a small glass box . We love our new babies.

I was in the mall recently and decided to check out what's new near Sears and Penneys. I found…read morethis place: What an exciting concept! A pet rescue and thrift store combo! I know that another Animal Rescue does this type of thing (selling donated items to raise money for the animals) but I've never seen it inside the mall. Th clothing/items for resale were nice (more than just the Goodwill) and there were several cats hoping for adoption near the front windows. I inquired about them (because cats) and while it's not an ideal situation, it's better than them being on the streets. They are looking for volunteers to help work with the animals, so what an amazing way to give back. I plan to be back again because I fully support this cause and hope others can support them, too.
