You can not visit Palermo without going to the market. Your trip simply put, would not be complete. Palermo boasts one of the best markets in all of Italy. You will find special local products that you wouldn't find anywhere else in Italy.
The fisherman wake up early in the morning to go fishing, upon their return, they set up shop in the streets of Palermo, along with farmers and other vendors. Everything you see is freshly caught, or freshly picked. The sights, sounds and smells can be overwhelming at times, there's so much going on at once. However it's all part of the experience! You will find stands of swordfish, tuna, clams (still alive), mussels, sardines, anchovies etc...The farmers stands have freshly picked figs, strawberries, blackberries, huge organic lemons and the list goes on!
If you're feeling hungry for a meal there are plenty of restaurants along the market that serve up traditional and super cheap Sicilian food. A drink, appetizer and main course vary from €5.00 to €10.00.
