Visiting from California...my wife and I decided to try this spot - probably the best empanadas we've ever had- the meat was super moist and the steak sandwich was excellent too! Probably eat at this spot again before heading back read more

Sometimes we just want to enjoy a bottle of wine and some gourmet bites in the comfort of our flat. Foodware was just what we needed! Well-priced bottles of wine (chilled ones as well) in addition to a diverse selection of prepared dishes for take away (and dine-in too). We had a Spanish white, beets & apples, and potato salad for 13 euro. Best deal we've had in Amsterdam! Lol. Everything was fantastic! Will definitely visit again during our stay here. So, now that I'm visiting AMS again with a good friend, I had to bring her here! We went to the Van Gogh Museum & then we walked all the way to Rainarai for the promise of subtly spicy and flavorful Algerian cuisine. Yes, it delivered!! Thankfully, Rainarai is exactly as I remembered it. The service was kind & friendly, the chicken plate I ordered was heaped with all kinds of delicious veggies, flavorful chicken & couscous. At 24 euros, the plates are a little pricey, but they are generously portioned. The dining area is small, but serviceable and homey. I enjoyed coming back here so much, and my friend did too. One note: I believe the server who we paid with charged us for a bottle of water when we just drank tap water... because the server who took our order ended her shift while we were dining. Bedankt!

That was a really fantastic find while exploring Amsterdam…read more I didn't have my Yelp app active, but bright and wholesome display of different breads and fruits for the juices they make helped me make a decision. The service was great: casual, friendly and timely. The girls working there made me feel welcomed and didn't treat me like another annoying tourist. FYI: they have an English menu as well, just ask for it. I went with the smoked chicken salad sandwich on a multigrain bread. The moment I bit into that bread I knew I was back in Europe: it tasted so real and wonderful. You can taste different nuts and seeds and the texture had a great crunch in the outside and soft center to hold the filling. The chicken salad itself was great as well: little mayo taste and generous chunks of chicken. I could also possibly taste some added pieces of died fruit, but I am not sure about that- I devoured that sandwich really quickly! The price was not too bad too, as for a fresh and healthy option- a sandwich and iced tea can were about 11 Euros. If I ever make it back to Amsterdam I will for sure look out for B & B Lunchroom signs!

My husband and I were really impressed with everything we ordered. The coffee was delicious and decadent and the Dutch breakfast platter was sumptious and never ending (to include ham and cheese platter with sprouts, a cup of fresh berries, granola and yogurt, eggs and warm ham, some veggies, coffee and fresh orange juice, and a basket of rolls and croissants!). My favorite was the fresh fig+goat cheese+arugula sandwich with honey and almonds. I still have dreams of this and am determined to recreate it one day! Delicious.

It's tucked a bit outside the centre of the city to the west, and well worth the walk. Their coffee is good not great, but the variety of nut milks available with it make it fun. The food - ohhhh the food. The Banh Xeo is special - unique, solid Asian flavours make this new take on an already unique food in Western market a hit for just €9,50. And the Gepaneerde Aubergine is perfectly crafted for maximum flavour - just special for just €7,50. The veg burger is rumoured to be the best you'll ever have - I had to stop, but write me when you venture in to let me know how it was! The fresh juices are super refreshing. The staff even more so. Fear not if you don't speak Dutch - plenty of friendly English coming from the team here. Come hungry...but as with all vegan food, make sure you're not too far from more food in a few hours' time when you're hungry again.

It had an eclectic bookstore feel to me with its grade-school-like tables and chairs, exposed ductwork, and decorative lighting. The hexagons painted on the floors and the artwork on the walls gave the cafe some character. I was just excited to find a vegan restaurant in Amsterdam! We started with the Bitter Ballen, which are a traditional Dutch snack made with meat served with mustard. This was obviously a vegan version and these gooey balls were served with mustard. They were a little underwhelming, but I was happy to try a traditional Dutch snack veganized. We tried two other dishes -- the Fried Seitan Sandwich made with seitan, jalapenos, and tomatoes on a sub roll. It was pretty good. And I had the Quinoa and Black Bean Burger, which was also very good! The desserts in the dessert case were tempting, but we were pretty full and couldn't make room for them. I'll definitely come back to this place to try more when I return next year!

One of our friend's visiting from the US is named Alexander, so it was even more awesome. After a long day at the Keukenhof gardens, we decided to drive to the beach to show them what a Dutch beach looks like, so this was totally spontaneous. They sat us immediately, moved the big umbrella so we weren't baking in the sun (even though most Dutch love that). This is a beautiful beach club. The inside is wonderful and the bathroom, although small, is very modern and clean. We only had a few borrel items. It's not your typical bar food though. The bitterballen was only 2 per order, so not cheap. They were good though. You will need to reach out to get them to your table, don't be shy, give them a little wave or quiet "pardon" when they walk by. They forgot to bring me a glass of wine I ordered, but I didn't really need it anyway, so when we noticed they billed it for us after we paid by card, they immediately went inside and returned with cash to refund us. Such good friendly service. Noordwijk is beautiful and classy, so this beachclub didn't disappoint. It was a great first impression to my friends.

If you are staying in one of the larger hotels or in the Centrum, plan a trip over to Potgietersstraat 47 and check this place out. For our second meal I had the Dorado special, two large, tender pieces of fish with deliciously crispy skin on a bed of vegetables, while J had the quiche met prei spinazie talleggio en walnoten, a large, square section of pie that is so thick it looks like a slice of Sicilian-style pizza. We each had some celery-leek soup that was creamy and light and really hit the spot. For our third and final meal we split half orders of the wisselende ravioli van holy ravioli (5 good-sized raviolo in a thick bolognese-type sauce), lamsschouder met rozemarijnjus boer steven (a fantastically tender piece of lamb au jus on more root vegetables), and the pork belly special (a large piece on a bed of root vegetables, mushrooms, and asparagus). Dessert was the lemon tart I had been eyeing for a couple of days. Portions were very generous and plenty of food for the two of us to enjoy all the dishes without feeling stuffed. We were a very happy, satisfied couple when we left. I'm just sorry our stay in Amsterdam wasn't longer. We would definitely work our way through the entire menu and all the specials. Highly recommend!

Four stars for concept!…read more On the short end of Ten Katestraat you'll find a row of food trucks catering to different tastes. I passed this place many times by tram but only today I decided to try something different from my routine (I love routines). I was on my way to Burgermeester (my fav burger joint) so I tried a burger here. The burger was 100% bio Wagyu beef. Though the taste was very nice (liked the caramelised onions and the tomato relish). I had asked twice for the burger to be done medium but it was well done. Not over done but certainly no fleck of pinkness anywhere. Another thing that would improve the burger would be if they'd grill the inside of the buns a bit. So much for my micro improvements. The atmosphere in the street is very nice. Long communal tables were friends and strangers can eat alongside each other. I will certainly go back again to try one of the other trucks offerings: pita bread with braised beef. There are also trucks catering to a sweet tooth an vegetarians. Of course you can combine food from different trucks. Finished with the main, have a dessert from another truck. Great idea for nice summer evenings outside with friends.
