I was on a mission to find good vegan food in Amsterdam and ended up at Dophert. Dophert is an all-vegan two-story cafe serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner six days per week. It had an eclectic bookstore feel to me with its grade-school-like tables and chairs, exposed ductwork, and decorative lighting. The hexagons painted on the floors and the artwork on the walls gave the cafe some character. I was just excited to find a vegan restaurant in Amsterdam! We started with the Bitter Ballen, which are a traditional Dutch snack made with meat served with mustard. This was obviously a vegan version and these gooey balls were served with mustard. They were a little underwhelming, but I was happy to try a traditional Dutch snack veganized. We tried two other dishes -- the Fried Seitan Sandwich made with seitan, jalapenos, and tomatoes on a sub roll. It was pretty good. And I had the Quinoa and Black Bean Burger, which was also very good! The desserts in the dessert case were tempting, but we were pretty full and couldn't make room for them. A charming little vegan/veg place, with flavours that rival any full kitchen around. I left impressed enough with this place that I considered not writing the review simply to keep it for myself. Momentary Ayn Rand moment aside, you've gotta try this place when in Amsterdam. It's tucked a bit outside the centre of the city to the west, and well worth the walk. Their coffee is good not great, but the variety of nut milks available with it make it fun. The food - ohhhh the food. The Banh Xeo is special - unique, solid Asian flavours make this new take on an already unique food in Western market a hit for just €9,50. And the Gepaneerde Aubergine is perfectly crafted for maximum flavour - just special for just €7,50. The veg burger is rumoured to be the best you'll ever have - I had to stop, but write me when you venture in to let me know how it was! The fresh juices are super refreshing. The staff even more so. Fear not if you don't speak Dutch - plenty of friendly English coming from the team here. Come hungry...but as with all vegan food, make sure you're not too far from more food in a few hours' time when you're hungry again. read more

A great lunch cafe. It might happen to be vegan, but I have to say, I honestly didn't even realize that anything was "missing". The tortilla soup was very tasty, and the tortilla crisps topping made my day. It was less creamy than I imagined, but it was a delicious broth nonetheless. I came back a separate time for the homemade veggie burger and that was a-mazing. Piled up high with toppings, I didn't think I'd be able to finish the whopper, but it was too good to resist. The chipotle mayo and the beet salad topping (?) really gave it a good kick. Their fresh juices are great. The small size is very small, but the cute straw somehow makes you feel better about it. Will be back to try more and the lovely desserts too. read more

We were there having breakfast and it was simply amazing. They make an excelent vegetarian English breakfast and the tosti and cakes are great too and very fulfilling. We also had a smoothie with the food which was delicious. They have an open kitchen downstairs and it looks extremely clean, staff is very friendly and if it's sunny is great to sit in the middle of the busy street meanwhile you enjoy a very healthy meal! read more

DopHert is a wonderful vegan restaurant that has delicious food, a wonderful atmosphere and terrific staff. We tried it for the first time for dinner and will definitely make it a regular place to eat. The cakes are to die for. I had two pieces since I am a vegan who adores sweets. I had a peanut butter and chocolate cake and carrot cake. Both were amazing. Then my spouse had the DopHert burger with french fries and salad and I had guacamole and chips. It was all tasty, substantial, and reasonably priced. They advertise vegan pancakes and tofu scramble for breakfast and we will hurry back for we are fans of breakfast and it is often difficult to get a substantial and tasty one. Do go there! You will not be disappointed. (Even the music is enjoyable). Update: My spouse and I went back for breakfast and I cannot say enough about how fantastic the breakfast was. The pancakes were truly the best we have EVER eaten. I would challenge anyone, vegan, vegetarian or omnivore to find tastier pancakes. The tofu scramble was delectable.
