On the advice of Aguascalientes family members, we came to Mercado Juarez for birria, specifically lamb birria. But they also have goat birria here too.
Upon entering the mercado, we were a little overwhelmed because there were at least ten small birria restaurants in the market. This made our selection of where to eat difficult.
We chose one in particular because it was busy, always a good sign.
At this kiosk everything came in either a regular or large size. Birria was served on a plate. You ate the birria with tortillas. The birria was shredded lamb in a mildly spicy sauce.
We also ordered bowls of lamb consommé (soup) that came with bits of chopped onion. Both the birria and the consommé were delicious.
Of special interest was that one of the workers at this kiosk was a Brit. He was the only Caucasian I met on this trip to AGU.
But as you can tell by the lack of reviews from Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes is off the beaten path. Still, Aguascalientes is one of my favorite Mexican cities. read more
