I am starting on my 4th year here in Atlanta. I find myself to be a social, community driven,…read morevolunteering type of person. Transitioning to Atlanta was somewhat difficult for me. It was hard to make friends (keep in mind, I am social type of person) and do the things I love. I met Steve on Facebook. He was so kind and you could tell from his posts, that he just wanted to help people. I finally reached out to him and attended an event. It was an event that was the beginning to my "normal." It was the first event I attended and honestly was a bit nervous bc I have been to "meet-up" groups and well they weren't all pleasant experiences. Everyone was so nice, inviting, down to earth just good people. Everyone has their own personality, no one judges, we come together do fun events, events that help our community, we learn at these events...it's just an awesome experience. I could write a whole page!! The point is...I got involved with this group looking to make friends. Not only did I make friends, but these friends turned into my second family here in Atlanta. I can't explain the type of gratitude I feel towards everyone in this group. If you are looking for fun, adventurous, community helping type of people, your search has finally ended!

I would highly recommend Urban Explorers to anyone who loves meeting new people, seeing hidden gems of Atlanta, and loves fine food and drinks. UXATL never disappoints!

I enjoyed my wheel throwing workshop at ATL Clay Works for the most part. There were two…read moreinstructors, Devanie the cocky one with a slight bad attitude, and the nice lady whose name I cannot remember. The workshop is pretty straightforward. Devanie took about 10-15 minutes to show us basic techniques in regard to manipulating the clay, wheel, tools, and so on. Then we began to work on our own clay with hands on help from the instructors when we were struggling. It's a lot fun and very grounding if you're also there for a spiritual experience. We each got to make 3 pieces which was pretty cool and pick from 4 glaze colors. Once we were finished, we helped clean up. I inquired about enrolling in an 8 week class with the nice lady, and Devanie interjected to abruptly and rudely let me know that the next class session was full. It's not what you say, it's how you say it, and while I showed no specific interest in the next class session, I do feel that there was an amicable way to tell me that the next class is full. What translated in her tone was not a simple share of information, but an indirect direct way of saying that she either did not want me there or she was stroking her own ego. Either way I will not return. I was there to introduce myself to another form of artistry and to spiritually rebalance and she took the harmony right out of that. Initially she said that it would take 2-3 weeks to receive our finished pots. It tools 5 weeks and 2 days. In spite of some of the energy, I am grateful for the experience, and love how my pots turned out!

I was so excited to learn how to throw clay, but my experience with Atlanta Clay Works was just so…read moredisappointing. They were rude and disorganized. I called to ask about signing up for a class, and the person whom I spoke with answered the phone by barking "What do you want?". It was so aggressive that I was caught off guard and timidly asked if I had reached Atlanta Clay Works, and they barked again: "Yes. What do you want?" I asked about the class, and the person responded by telling me that registration is online and then hung up on me. I was excited about the class, so, despite that interaction, I waited until registration for the opened up and registered for the class ... only to receive an email an hour later informing me that they had overbooked the class and that I wouldn't be allowed to attend it. The whole experience was so frustrating, I've given up on them and have gone to Mudfire instead, which has been a wonderful experience so far!
