We hired this company to paint the entire interior of our home, a large and expensive project that we entrusted to professionals. Within weeks, their work began failing in multiple areas -- most notably in the bathrooms -- and it has only continued to deteriorate. As shown in the photos, the paint is actively peeling, cracking, and separating from the surface along ceilings, corners, and flat wall planes. This is not normal wear, and it is not minor touch-up territory. Entire sections of paint are lifting and flaking off. When we first raised concerns about the secondary bathroom shortly after moving in, their representative dismissed the issue as a "ventilation problem," despite the fact that there were no issues before the repaint and this occurred during summer months. They doubled down on this explanation by claiming the master bathroom would not have the same problem due to its size. That explanation quickly collapsed when the master bathroom -- which is very large and has vaulted ceilings -- developed the same cracking and peeling within a month. This clearly points to incorrect paint selection and/or improper surface preparation, particularly a failure to use bathroom-appropriate, moisture-resistant products. At no point were we advised on paint suitability for bathrooms -- something any competent professional painter should proactively address. We used "premium" paint, yet premium paint applied incorrectly or in the wrong environment still fails, which is exactly what happened here. Equally concerning is the lack of accountability. Despite the amount we had just spent, and despite our willingness to pay to resolve the issue correctly, the company made no meaningful effort to fix their work. Beyond the bathrooms, there are additional quality issues throughout the home: visible cracking along ceiling seams, paint splitting along non-corner joints, and unfinished details. Notably, the kitchen baseboards were never painted, with the explanation that they were "part of the cabinets," which is plainly inaccurate and visible in person. This experience has been extremely disappointing. The workmanship does not meet professional standards, and the refusal to stand behind the work is even more troubling. Based on both the quality of the results and the response when problems arose, I would not recommend this company to anyone investing serious money into their home. read more

A lady named Ruth came to give an estimate for the house. I told her we were looking for exterior painting coupled with any potential rot/siding repair. She went to look and was here for maybe 10 minutes? I wouldn't know for sure because she never came back in to answer questions or provide useful info..like how and when I would get an estimate, how long the project would take, scheduling, what her thoughts were on the project? I texted her after..."where did you go" and she said it's customary for them to inspect and just leave LOL. She said that if I had any questions I should have asked them at the beginning. So it's basically my fault haha. She offered to come back but the very poor communication right off the bat was a major red flag. This is not my first review of Mendez Painting nor do I suspect it will be my last. We first hired them back in 2012 for a small project...painting our gutters. This was the first of several through the years. I found Mendez online, after getting a bunch of quotes they were one of the more reasonable ones, plus the reviews were excellent and Gabriel was very friendly when he came out to quote the job. For the colors and materials I ended up going with Sherwin Williams duration in Roycroft Bronze Green in low lustre, with Roycroft Suede trim in gloss and Rockwood Terra Cotta gloss on the window sashes. Then on the gutters, metal roof, roof accessories and garage doors had them use Modern Masters reactive copper paint. Finally on the porch floors, wood ceilings and outside shakes we used Olympic Maximum semi transparent cedar naturaltone stain. I did a lot of research on the grades of paint etc. ahead of time and Gabriel was very accommodating with using what I wanted. When the crew came out and started to work on the house one thing that struck me right away was that they actually removed the downspouts to be able to prep and paint behind them. Most companies do not do that and this was a nice detail that I really appreciated. There was some repair work that needed to be done that they did correctly with great attention to detail etc.. This project had a lot of detail work and took a crew of 4 people eight and a half solid days of work to complete. Along the way we ran into a few small project snags that are normal for this kind of effort. One was that the sash color could not be properly matched with SW duration so we had to switch that to resilience. The communication was excellent and we were able to quickly make that adjustment. The other had to do with a potential curing issue with the Modern Masters. Since we were both using this paint for the first time we worked together and figured out that it just needed more time to dry. I was home while they were doing all of the work. Periodically I would go outside to see how things were going, ask questions and chat. Jesus, his brother and the rest of the crew were enjoyable to have around. They are very friendly and happy to answer any questions etc., and my dog really liked them. Also, they did everything right with attention to detail. I have already recommended them to 3 different neighbors and plan on using them for some other projects that are coming up in the future. I was referred to Mendez Painting by someone who had several homes painted by Gabriel's team after complaining about my prior experiences with contractors. Mendez painting showed up on time, covered all my floors and furniture (even moving the heavy stuff), and painted to my rules (I wanted a couple rooms done at a time since I have kids and pets). How many contractors are timely or leave the place cleaner than they found it???? Mendez Painting team members did. And, they were communicative... I knew what was going on, when they were arriving, and we reviewed each day's progress at the end of the day before they left. My husband and I recently purchased a foreclosed home, and it needed every wall and surface on the inside repainted. It also needed some minor repairs (such as caulking and patching some pieces of siding). My parents recommended Mendez Painting after having Gabriel do a large job at their home. He gave us a very reasonable quote and was able to get a team to begin work on our house almost immediately. His team was quick and competent, and our home looked beautiful when they were done. Our furniture was moved into the house after the painting had been finished. Although our movers were VERY careful, there were a few spots and smudges on our walls after they were done. we hired mendez painting for our interior (which includes a 2 story foyer). gabriel is THE nicest, responsive person and his crew were equally nice and i agree with the other reviewer who said there were times i didn't realize they were even in the house, so quiet! so after we had everything done, maybe 2 weeks later we noticed that the ceiling in the 2 story foyer had a spot that seemed to have been missed (maybe it was shadowed from former lighting)...anyway once we saw this, i texted gabriel to let him know. he apologized and asked when they could come by to fix it. we scheduled a day and unfortunately i had to cancel last minute. but this didn't deter gabriel from fixing the ceiling. we rescheduled, they came out, and got it done. I had an OUTSTANDING experience dealing with Mendez Painting. First, they personally came (arrived on time) to discuss the work of interior painting of a large portion of our home and ceiling, and we got a free estimate (also on time) as promised, which was very reasonable for the size of the job. The team that came arrived on time every day (2 days), were very courteous and professional, brought the right equipment and the exact paints that we wanted, carefully moved all the furniture (even heavy ones) and covered/masked everything very neatly. At the end of the job, they removed all the coverings, moved all the furniture back, and cleaned up everything. We are SUPER satisfied with the great job they did, and I can't even believe how neat they were able to do the edges and how even the paint looks everywhere. This company does not deserve a 4.9 or 5 star rating. They were not by any means the lowest price quote. When getting the quote, I told Mr. Mendez I wanted to improve the appearance of the house with a superior paint job. I said I did not expect the extra work (sanding, cleaning, painting) to be done for free and to charge me for it in the quote, which he obviously did. In the end, I got at best a three star paint job with splatters on the windows and screens, overspray, and certainly no sanding of rough spots. Movable (double hung) windows here are vinyl and of course did not need to be painted. However, there are a few fixed picture windows that needed to be painted to match the vinyl color. Rather than mask these windows and make a straight line, they used the "try to make a straight line with a brush" method, which of course never works. In most cases, the paint is shy where glass meets wood. In some cases paint got on the glass and was scraped back too far, leaving a gap where rain will accumulate and expedite the rotting of wood. In many places, the paint is so thin you can see through it to the previous color. I did a lot of the work myself because it was difficult to communicate with the workers. During the job, Mr. Mendez did not show up once. This is a three star company at best. read more
