From re-soling Bally loafers and Louboutin heels, adjusting the fit, fixing rips in the heel of stilettos, repairing and polishing purses, replacing a metal shank in a pair of sandals - we've used a lot of his services. While it's not inexpensive, you get what you pay for and I'm glad to not spend a lot more for a new pair of shoes that then needs to be worn in.

I wore dress shoes for work and used to buy expensive shoes with leather soles, such as Church's English Leather. I had shoes resoled probably a dozen times and used to use Brooks at the Pittsfield Building, but they are out of business. Gus' is on par with the old Brooks, and my go-to shop for now on. I was taken aback at the initial price, but Sam explained the process to rejuvenate the leather. I decided to go for it. They do have stations for a quick mall-style polish as well, if that's what you're after. What I got back was three pairs of shoes that looked [almost] new! Not just that, but it lasted! I took one of these pairs to a wedding! Dancing plus a couple "oops, sorry for stepping on your foot" later, and the shoes still look like new. Finally, lots of credit to Sam for being kind, knowledgeable, and down to earth. With this, happy to continue coming back to Beehive for all my footwear maintenance needs!

I went in to pick them up and they were way taller. I simply said "hey i thought you said these were gonna be the same size and these are looking a little tall" and he immediately started getting defensive saying "you picked the soles and thats how they look" trying brush me off and give me a bag so I'd leave. I kept reiterating that he said they would be the same height and he chose to ignore me. I asked him if there was anything he could do to fix them and he refused so i asked for at least half my money back and he tried to kick me out, then asked for my old soles that he just had piled on a box and he said "no they are garbage and threw them away. I left so frustrated that he would treat me that way just for wanting something done right because i spent the money.

I dropped it off Wednesday and they said it would be ready by Monday. They actually had it ready the next day so thy are definitely fast but I think I would have preferred they take their time and get the small details right. The ll bean boots look good, there was some leftover polish they didn't fully rub in but minor quibble. Really its the repair on the danner boots that I think would have benefited from more attention to detail. The leather they replaced is the same color but way more wrinkled and its clearly a cheaper leather than the original. Whats worse is the stitching, the old one had it tucked in and smooth but the repair has the old leather more pronounced and it rubs on the heel and ankle. Its still wearable but feel like an extra 10 minutes would have resulted in a better finish.

The Allen Edmond factory offers a complete recrafting of their shoes for $150. This pair would cost $425 new at retail, but sometimes you can catch it on sale (allenedmonds.com) Jesse told me they were capable of the full rework at a faster turnaround. He claimed his dad worked at Allen Edmond and taught him the trade - he lied! They put on new soles, heals, an additional durable sole cover and finished with a polish. 2 months later the soles are separating! They did not refinish the uppers like they said they would rather did a simple polish using a color that didn't match the original color. There was no refinishing of the uppers, even though they had worn beyond what a simple street shine could cover. They did not repair the worn straps on the monk straps of the shoe. But they charged me the $150 that I foolishly told them the factory would charge. I won't be going back - ever.
