Exceptional skill and service. I hired Mencer's to cut down a 50-60 ft blue spruce which was only 5 feet from our front door. They worked it in at the end of a day, and took the tree down with expert precision, avoiding the house, power lines, and other trees. With something as risky as tree removal, it's worth hiring the pros, and their price was very affordable even compared to some of the less well-known groups out there. It's a bit of a wait to get on their schedule, but that's the nature of the business. Plan ahead and you won't be disappointed. My service was delayed a few weeks due to the snow storms, but I called a few weeks after and got on schedule no problem. read more

Our next door neighbor had mencers take down a tree. The mencer crew threw their equipment on our lawn and banged branches into our magnolia tree. I went out to talk to the crew and they pointedly ignored me standing there. My wife called their office and the office tried to make it our problem saying we should have asked them not to do these things. I have been using Mencer tree service for 13 years. Anytime I need anything done. I call Andy Mencer, who is an absolute phenomenal person, so down-to-earth and so willing to work with you with your project. Just wanted to leave this review today of the crew that came to my house to cut 100 foot maple tree down with power, wires, and my house very very close. These guys are truly professional, and absolutely amazing human beings. The names were of this crew which I made sure I got was Dimitri, Freddy, Jared, Ivan, and the one I dealt with mostly was Louis. I was very impressed with his professional attitude and the professionalism with holiday new business. He kept me abreast of everything they were doing and they even did one thing that they didn't have to. The treat was burnable wood and I asked them if they would cut them into 17 inch pieces so I could use my log splitter and split them they did exactly what I said, and they put it exactly where I asked them to with no complaints. They cleaned up after themselves perfectly and they left my property flawless when they left. I was a contractor for 40 years and I always appreciated a little bit of a tip so I tried to do the best I could to maybe buy those guys lunch and they appreciate it immensely. So again I say you need tree service of any kind. I recommend Mencer tree service with five stars they're absolutely amazing people and I've been using them like I said for 13 years and they've never done me wrong so I pray the blessings on the business and safety on those guys lives because, it's not easy work and it's very very dangerous so I pray that the Lord keep them watch over them and keep them safe in Jesus name. I made the unfortunate mistake of asking the foreman of the crew working at the apartment complex where I live questions about some of the trees being removed - Not only was he rude and mocked me. Maybe the guy was having a bad day, but he certainly took it out on me without cause. Aside from this, the end result of the work wasn't great either. As many others have said, they didn't complete the job they were hired for, leaving plenty of stumps that were supposed to be removed. There are plenty of other services around, and we had a much better experience with the next company, which finished what Mencer's left undone. Do yourself a favor and go with someone else from the get-go, or you'll regret it. read more

I got a quote for a tree removal on 4/28. I accepted the quote and asked to be put on the schedule. I was told it would be 6-8 weeks. I called after 8 weeks and was told it would be some indeterminate date in the future. Today 7/31, I finally got tired of waiting for the dead tree to fall and hurt someone, and I hired someone else. The only positive thing I have to say is they gave me a fair quote. However they shouldn't accept jobs that they can't complete. read more

I needed to remove a couple of trees from my property and first got a quote from a franchise tree service company serving Knoxville. I decided to get a second quote and called Mencer's in early February. The owner came out promptly and gave me a quote. He seemed like a very nice guy and we had a good conversation about the history of his company, mutual acquaintances, etc, and he gave me an acceptable quote. I always like todeal with local businesses if possible and we shook hands on the deal. He wanted to bring a backhoe across my yard and needed to wait for a few days of dry weather. After waiting over a month, during which there were several periods which would have allowed the work to be done, I called the office. The lady who answered was very abrupt, bordering on rude, and told me she would have the "scheduler" call me. Over the next week, no one called. Two more inquiry calls from me also went unanswered. I then asked to speak to the owner and was told he would be asked to call me. Another 2-3 days went by with no answer. By now, the office person became increasingly abrupt and acted as if she could care less about my dilemma. So I got another estimate and called Mencer's to cancel, telling them why. The office lady's response was "Okay." No questions about trying to resolve the issue, and she obviously didn't care. Mencer's puts on a good face, but the office person absolutely has no idea how to communicate or treat a customer with courtesy and respect. I would never use them again. read more

What a great family run, veteran owned business! They came to our house today and took down a large 25' tree in our front yard. They safely guided the tree down between our neighbors landscape and our landscape. They had it down, chopped, and placed into a large chipper truck within 15 min's. They raked, used leaf blower and cleaned up all of the small debris that was remaining. The chipper machine was so large and powerful, they used a hydraulic wrench to pull most of the tree in several large sections (10-12') and placed into the chipper. This resulted in much less debris and saw dust compared to situations when you cut a large tree into numerous small sections with a chain saw. This was much cleaner process. read more

Mencer's Tree Service had given us a quote for the removal of 5 trees on our property, and we were on their busy schedule about 2 months out. Late one night we heard a huge bang and felt the entire house shake. A 6th tree had fallen over and crashed onto the corner of our roof in the rear of the house. We called Mencer and spoke with Laura, who sent Andy out for an inspection. He immediately deemed it an emergency and Laura arranged for them to come out several days later. Despite heavy rains, Laura was awesome in scheduling around them and got the crew out for the removal. They ended up removing not only the fallen tree, but the other 5 as well. The team, led by Dimitrio, displayed excellent professionalism in removing all of the trees with great care to the surroundings. The fallen tree was very difficult to access as it was in the rear of our wooded lot. They skillfully maneuvered their cherry-picker truck between trees and the side of our house to position it perfectly for cutting and removing the fallen tree. I had heard many good things about this company, and they really lived up to the reputation. I would highly recommend this company! read more

I hate posting negative reviews for companies, but I feel it's my duty to inform the public before you experience the same issue I have. First off, Mencer's Tree Service did a good job removing the tree's from my property. No question about that. Just wanted to get that out there. My issue came about as we had numerous stumps that needed to be removed. A large stump grinder was used, and our irrigation line was ruptured in numerous places. The owner of the company was notified, and they have chosen not to be responsible for the subsequent damage that they caused while grinding the stumps on our property. Bottom line - Mencer's Tree Service was not the cheapest option we had to remove our trees, but we chose them based on their reputation/reviews. When you pay thousands of dollars to have trees removed, you expect a certain level of work. Their employees caused the subsequent damage to our irrigation system, and yet they don't feel as it's their responsibility to reimburse me for the damage they caused. I have a sycamore tree in my back yard which was there long prior to the house next door being built. The tree limbs had grown toward and closer to the house next door over the last few years since that house was built. I hired White's Tree Service to cut those particular limbs off at the tree in order to prevent those limbs from causing problems or disputes with the neighbors. I was told by White's that this was the best method so as not to disfigure the tree. More than a couple of weeks later, the neighbors hired Mencer's Tree Service to come out regarding the same tree (my tree). Mencer's came onto MY property and further cut MY tree without warning or permission. My tree is now butchered and disfigured, being completely bare on the neighbor's side, and I have been told that the manner in which they cut the limbs will probably cause the tree to rot and never grow back and restore the natural shape and beauty of the tree. Mencers is the only tree service I would use in Knoxville. Their pricing is fair (I got another estimate for the work that was performed and Mencers was hundreds of dollars cheaper). The service is professional and they leave your property in a better condition they when they got there. First I would like to state that Mencer's CREW did a good job. The crew was polite and quick. Unfortunately, the rest of my experience was horrible. From the lack of communication with office personnel, rudeness of the office personnel, and the owner yelling and cussing me for something his office personnel had messed up on my neighbor's quote, not even my quote! Instead of of speaking with his office personnel first or my neighbor, in which the issue was with, he called me at 7:15 am blaming me! All of this was horrible experience. Although the owner apologized, after I called back in the afternoon stating he was in the wrong , I am still shocked of how I was treated as a customer. If I had not called him back o wouldn't have heard a peep of an apology. I was also accused of cussing his crew, which was a complete lie. I thanked the crew MANY times and gave one of the crew members Gatorade! I am shocked of how this business operates. I feel bad for the crew. If he spoke to a customer the way he did there is no telling how the owner treats the employees. It's a real shame. I watched the crew work hard for a day and a half on my tree and my neighbor's two trees. Those guys are amazing at what they do. I just don't recommend this company because of the office personnel and the owner. We live in a rental house and did not pick who we wanted to cut the tree that had fallen in our yard. Mencer's Tree Service came and did a great job! They came to the house early in the morning and were gone within an hour (this was a HUGE tree). I was very impressed with how fast they were and how clean they left the yard/surrounding area that they were around. There were at least 7 men working and they all did a great job! I contacted them before September 7th, 2021 and was told it would be a 8-12 week wait as they were busy. I get it. Everyone one is short staffed, and everyone is busy. They did send over a person to give an estimate in a very timely fashion, and since it was a small job, they might be able to do it sooner. I should've realized from the misspelling of my name on the email containing the estimate, they didn't really care about their customers nor their time. After about 4 weeks, I realized I needed some branches around power lines trimmed, and they were more than willing to add it to the day of work. They didn't mention how much extra this was going to be though. By the time week 14 had arrived, I sent an email to see how far out we would be scheduling wise. I got no reply for 3 days when they called and said they could be there tomorrow. Unfortunately, both my wife and I were out of town that day. it wouldn't be a problem they said. I got a phone call the following morning from the technician(proper description?) saying I was going to have to sign a waiver because our fence gate was broken. Now, I'll freely admit the gate is leaning and needs to be replaced, but I was a little surprised when they said broken. They sent some pictures, and it was in the same condition as when I last saw it. They had clearly gotten through the gate in order to take said pictures. The technician then said since he sent pictures, I didn't need to sign a waiver. I had already told him I had no problem signing a waiver, but wanted to read it first. I did ask if my gate was a problem why didn't the person who came out to do the estimate say it was going to be a problem? At that point, the technician said I was accusing him of breaking the gate. I flatly said no, I said it is in the same condition as when I last saw it. The technician then said he'd have to talk to his manager before proceeding with the work. I said fine, let's just get this tree down. Then he changes his mind and says the tree is very dangerous and needs to come down and will do it. Great! Let's do it! The tree is coming down, and everything is going to be fine. I get off the phone and check my doorbell camera and see both trucks and all the workers leave my house. I call the technician back and don't get a response. I then call the office and the lady at the desk doesn't know what's going on and rightfully so. She hasn't talked to the technician since he left. I said several times "I've been waiting 3 months for this tree to come down." She interrupts me and says, you've said that several times, but we are right on time scheduling wise. I wasn't aware 8-12 weeks then actually arriving at 14 weeks was on time. She says she'll call me back and let me know what's happening. She called back, and I couldn't get to my phone. She left a voicemail saying that the person who did the estimate would be coming out to do the work either the same day or tomorrow. That was 12-16-21. Here it is 1-4-21, and I've heard nothing from Mencer's. I am 17 weeks out with no word on when, or if, they are planning on coming out. I'd heard from a couple people and read some reviews that they would schedule work then not show up for it, but I thought that was pretty silly. Little did I know, thinking that was silly, was actually the silly part. If you schedule Mencer's just accept they may or may not get the work done. I won't be calling them in the future. If I could give less than a star, I would. read more

They Said they would climb a tree and it would result in no damage. Ultimately they just cut it down, no climbing, and it destroyed my tree line which will take 10 years to repair. Horrible service. I called in early April 2019 for an estimate regarding a large tree limb that fell in my yard. They immediately sent me an estimate of the removal. I accepted the estimate and waited for a time for them to schedule my appointment, which I thought would be rather soon since they were so hasty to send the estimate. Instead of scheduling an appointment, they told me they would do the job "as they have time between their other appointments." I have called them every few weeks for an estimate of when I can expect them to service my yard, and receive the same response every time: "the job will be complete by the end of the month." It is now July 2019 and the tree limb is still lying where it fell. Every time I call it is sent to their "24/hr answering service" but none of my messages to date have been returned. I finally decided to call (answering service picked up) to officially rescind my estimate and to cancel the request. Difficult to get in touch with. Never follows up. Doesn't follow through. I wouldn't even recommend this company to a foe. read more

I called Mencer's to remove large limbs in both front and back yard of my home. They stated that they would be there on 7-4-18 to give an estimate. I confirmed that they meant that someone would be working on 4th of July? They said yes and they would be there. I stayed home all day on a holiday. No one came and no one called. I called back early the next morning to report this. Someone called me back from Mencer's about 5 hours later. They stated that they missed coming to my house - no apology - just a statement. They came that day and gave me an estimate of 1250.00. That seemed high to me so I called another tree service - Arbor Care. They made an appt and kept the appt. They gave me a estimate for half the one that Mencer's gave. I agreed and they set appt for 7-11-18. Arbor Care showed up on 7-9-18 because they were so concerned about the safety of my home, myself and my pets that they wanted to get the job done ASAP and squeezed me into their schedule that day. They did a great job and cleaned up afterwards. I highly recommend Peter at Arbor Care and do no recommend Mencer's. read more
