Stopped in on the way to Nashville & was greeted by very friendly & accommodating staff. This shop is amazing & offers a wide selection of drums, guitars, parts, accessories, & apparel for the musician. They have very good prices & sales of great value. This shop is clean & well stocked. There is a drum room, a cymbal room, & also a lesson room. The pictures I took during my visit do not do this place justice. You have to see it in person! read more

Checked this place out because my boyfriend is a drummer and was pleasantly surprised to find lots of cool historical drum memorabilia by some pretty big name musicians. It was fun to look around. Even though we weren't looking to purchase anything that day, it seemed like they had a good selection of things such as an entire room of snares and cymbals. read more

I have purchased three new Zildjian cymbals from Memphis Drum Shop after watching the video demonstration for each one. Those videos are an asset, for sure, because I come away with representative samples concerning appearance, sound, and playability. All my purchases have arrived as scheduled, with a certificate signed by the owner, and in excellent condition because of effective packaging. I live in Arizona so that's a lot of shipping distance with opportunity for wear and tear. I have gotten to know and trust Will. When I have questions, he takes the time to answer them. But if he does not know the answer at the time, he calls me back later with the answer. Also, he pays attention to messages that I leave for him with other employees when he is in a meeting or helping other customers, and that tells me that Memphis Drum Shop staff work together to put customer satisfaction first. He also personally inspects each cymbal before packaging. Thank you, Will and owner Jim P., and the others at Memphis Drum Center for treating me so well and for appreciating my business! read more

It's weirdly quiet inside the Memphis Drum Shop. When I visited on a mid-week afternoon, there was no banging, no crashing cymbals, no background muzak for aspiring drummers to play along to. The Memphis Drum Shop has six showrooms stocked with new and vintage drum sets, obscure hand drums and chimes, gongs, tympani and bongos. In this palace of percussion, professional grade drum kits share floor space with beginner sets and pearly vintage drums. There's a shrine-like room entirely devoted to cymbals. Open in Memphis since 1987, the Memphis Drum Shop is considered one of the best drum shops in the world. Legendary drummers of all kinds have given performances and workshops in the upstairs performance area and the drum shop has the largest display of Zildjian and Paiste cymbals in the world. In addition to the showroom, the drum shop also manages a large ecommerce business, repair shop, and archive of drum catalogs (from 1900 to the present). For those wanting to rock but unsure of where to start, the Memphis Drum Shop has seven percussion teachers on staff and offers discounted lessons with the purchase of some drum kits. read more

It's an experience just to walk into this place it is so huge they have a vintage section and brand of stuff that I had never even seen before. Some of the guys on Beale Street need to come here and upgrade their equipment. As the manager just about anything they know everything there is to know about drums. Played lead electric blues guitar for 40 years, but if I was a drummer this will be the place to go. Well recommended, we will return. read more

I visited Memphis Drum Shop to buy a gift, and was so impressed with the range of drum kits and accessories that I simply couldn't make up my mind. I was in luck, though, because the place sells gift certificates. Perfect. I loved the vintage sets available, as well as the cool snare drums, chimes, and cymbals. I had no idea that cymbals are available in so many different textures and finishes, so this was a great learning experience for me. I love to play air drums, so I was happy to see that Memphis Drum Shop offers lessons, as well as instructional books and videos. Who knows? Maybe I'll take it up for real one day. read more

Memphis Drum Shop - Zildjian family history. Just one of the many things you can see when you come here. Quick! Get in the car and get here. - Musical Instruments & Teachers Near Me - Memphis, Tennessee

I purchased a bass drum head and realized upon delivery, I bought the wrong size. I tried several times to return it paying the exact same shipping cost that I paid when purchased. Bottom line, the owner wouldn't make any suggestions or help me with my return. I don't know what happened to customer service but it doesn't exist at Memphis Drum shop. read more

Don't waste your money, time or resources shopping here! The people here and the owner in particular, Mr. Pettit, cares more about presentation, money and his own pride than he cares about making 'you', the customer, happy! It's true! After a few snare purchases, I scratched my head, asking myself what I was doing! I still have one snare I bought from them and it's great but the overall experiences with this shop were really bad! I really wanted the Noble and Cooley, Solid Shell, Cherry snare drum which I bought. I put up with some harassing, rude treatment from the owner, just to get it. He also sold me a 'questionable' Brady snare drum, previous to the N&C snare, which I sold. I say it was questionable because Chris Brady's own daughter could neither confirm or deny the snare drum's authenticity. This drum was alleged to be one of the last 30 snare drums that Chris Brady produced. To this day, you won't see 'one' video anywhere on the internet of any of those drums, nor any of them in the market. Also, the company that made them is nowhere to be found in business and Brady issued legal statements on their site for those who were using their moniker, manufacturing similar drums ti theirs to 'cease' and 'desist!' The Brady family went on to deny they were making or authorizing anyone else to make their drums, 'fully' maintaining their decision to close and be out of business! I don't know but the evidence is pretty clear! Memphis Drum Shop is shady to pull something off like this and fool thirty something customers! I inquired about it but it looked like a costly endeavor and things pretty much worked out the way I thought they would. Everything except Mr. Pettit got away with what is apparently 'fraud!' I wouldn't buy a drum stick of drum head from these people if I had a gig down the block I and was dire need of those items! I'd rather cancel the gig! I implore you for all that is good and humane, please really consider before giving this shoo and Mr.Pettit, your time, money and resources. Thank you. read more

I've purchased a number of cymbals, snare drums and accessories from MDS over the years. Always the best prices, selection and customer service. I just bought a another set of DW Collectors Series drums and MDS had the finish and sizes I wanted, at the best price anywhere. They shipped my order the same day and sent me the tracking info along with one of the sales team members contact info in case I needed any help. I can't say enough good things about the entire experience. I love my new kit and the team at MDS took great care of me! read more

Great service by people who know what they're talking about. Tommy went above and beyond helping me select the right cymbal.

Super great place, great drums of all ages and makes for sale. I would even go as far as saying it's somewhat of a drum museum. Very reasonable with pricing and cool customer service. Can't wait to come back! read more

A great place to visit if, like me, you've never quite outgrown your childhood fondness for banging on pots and pans. (I'd probably give 5 stars if I had as much money to spend on percussion equipment as I'd like to have!) I've bought mainly accessories (heads, sticks, brushes, the odd auxiliary percussion instrument) here, but even though I'm not a big spender, I've always found the staff to be helpful, offering suggestions that do NOT always involve buying the more expensive piece of equipment. Moreover, the Drum Shop offers drum lessons (one of my cousins had a great experience with that!) as well as drum/percussion clinics, workshops, and performances featuring local and out-of-town musicians. read more

Memphis Drum Shop is one of the premiere drum shops in the United States. It's reputation is stellar-- and for good reason. There's not much "ordering" needed here. They have everything you could possibly think of, and probably some things you haven't dreamed of yet. The service and staff are impeccable-- total drum geeks that aren't overbearing on service or knowledge. If you need it, though... you'll get it. Worth the visit for the Cymbal Vault alone. So many selections and options and sounds and creative avenues. It's maddening in the very best way. Highly, highly recommended for my fellow drummers. read more

I'm not a drummer. No, as sad as this fact may be, I never had the coordination to get very far in Beatles Rock Band let alone an actual factual drum. Sucks too, cuz chick drummers are hot. It's a fact. Sadly, I've always strayed more towards the vocal end of being musically inclined and as hard as I tired to learn mad clarinet, violin and guitar playing skills, I've never had the discipline required to become a rock star. This place is THE place in Memphis to go if you need anything in the way of percussion. They have 6 different showrooms stocked to the gills with drumming necessities. It's a drummer's paradise folks! I love that they offer vintage options as well as the new, shiny ones. They also run the gamut from beginner to expert pieces. Cymbals much? Hell fire, Ive never seen so many cymbals gathered together in one place at one time. It's a freaking cymbal convention. The staff here is incredible. They know what they are talking when in comes to drums. They also offer lessons for those of us who are more of the "not so musical instrument inclined." As if this isn't enough, they offer lessons at a discounted rate if you purchase your drum set within the confines of their store. read more

Ok, incredibly biased because I work there. But nonetheless, this is a spot that people in this town really do under appreciate. It is known all over the world, and in 20 years of business, practically every drumming legend out there has or will step through the doors to at least check the place out or do an awesome clinic in the concert room kept hidden in the back. This is about as close to a boutique drum shop as it gets. It features the largest cymbal inventory in the world, and one of the largest collections of drum kits, snare drums and latin percussion equipment. And that is about as much as I can convey without sounding like a sales pitch. Just keep in mind, employees are "not" commission based like most of the music shops in town. We just want to spread the appreciation of rhythmic instruments. read more

Super cool! They have a cymbal vault and a snare vault with the owners personal collection in it. It's like drummer Heaven. They put on gloves to show you cymbals. Super official. I didn't really see any low end gear there. Everything was pristine. I didn't pick up anything today but when I'm back in the area or start playing more I'll definitely be shopping with them instead of Guitar Center. Tommy is my new drum Almanac. read more

Very friendly and helpful staff with great products at a good price. Will definitely stop by again.

Bad online buying experience. They were quick to charge and they canceled my order after that without notice. Now I have to wait up to 5 days to get my money back for an issue that could have been resolved with a simple email/phone call. I will never use this company again. read more

You can tell that this is a place where musicians of all skill level have come for their drumming needs. And the store boats a great selection of all odd and ends pertaining to drums including the sticks, the snares, the cymbals. You name it, they have it. You can also find cases of all kinds, microphones, headphones, books, and apparel. read more

The drum selection was second to none. I love the whole vintage drum section and the massive cymbals section. If you are a musician (you don't even have to be a drummer) in or around the the Memphis area, you absolutely need to come here. They have some awesome drum sets from every brand you could imagine, along with an extensive hand percussion room, and (one of my favorites) the cymbal vault. In the cymbal, you'll find every current series by the big three cymbal brands, along with some very cool cymbals from Istanbul cymbals and Bosphorus Cymbals. They also have a very cool vintage room that is definitely worth taking a look at. The staff was friendly and helpful. read more

I live in Arizona and after much online research, I contacted Memphis Drum Shop. Zach made the transaction as easy as possible, always making sure my questions were being answered. I requested to have rivets added to the cymbal and Zach worked closely with me to make sure the holes were placed exactly where I wanted them. I recommend the Me mphis Drum Shop without hesitation. read more

I play a little of everything. Don't hate... but I play V-Drums as well. I play mostly guitars. I needed a new head for my banjo. No one... I mean no one had a head for my banjo. Someone suggested I go to Memphis Drum shop. They did not have the specific head I needed in stock, but were about to make an order from the specific vendor who made the head. Amazingly, I was able to purchase two CUSTOM heads for not much more than a couple of Remo heads! Drummers... DO NOT miss this amazing store! Excellent selections and great customer service! Even if you aren't a drummer, this is a great place to visit and gawk at all the amazing gear on display! You will gain an education on drum gear! read more

The customer service was great. I had contacted a few other places with an obscure mechanical design issue that no one could answer until I spoke with Jim Pettit. I met Dave Weckyl and Peter Erskine there- and got to hear them play/teach within the clinic setting. The Memphis drum shop is an elite drum shop, unlike any around in the southeast. The clinics they put on with their wide selection of inventory makes it a great place to get your drumming fix. It's worth the travel if you can catch their clinic schedule and plan ahead of time. Highly recommend attending a clinic there if you can. Great venue, Good drum shop. read more
