This is a great place to socialize, connect for a group meeting or spend the day working individually. There is good lighting, especially near the large windows, there is space to spread out, including an upstairs. I most appreciate the chairs (ample and soft) and comfy couches. With the large wooden tables, high-back chairs and expansive almost floor to ceiling book case, the place feels a bit like an old grand college library hall or an English study without any of the pretension. The staff team is gracious. I've even seen them remind folks to feed their parking meters if they notice the meter enforcement officers in the vicinity. The food is tasty and they have a wide assortment of beverages, including some spirited options and excellent coffee. Oh, yeah, they also play chess there, mostly it seems on the weekends and evenings. There always seems to be an eclectic group of patrons, including some regulars. In short, Memphis Chess Club feels comfortable and welcoming. You can also purchase a membership and receive discounts on your food and other purchases. read more
