Cass City Park - Throw it straight...

You never forget your first time!! Yes. This is where I first started my disc golf "career"…read more Ironically, I started here before the course was built. A friend brought me out here on our lunch break and was trying to teach me how to throw. I figured I'd be a pro since I could zing a free style Frisbee. Boy was I wrong!! After a month of practice, I started to get the hang of it. We then ventured to Heritage Park in Frankenmuth, MI to play my first round of disc golf. However, a few weeks later we heard rumors of the city designing a disc golf course for the exact same park where I learned how to throw a disc golf driver. The rumors were true and we started to play the course. Before they put up the signage, we made up our own tee boxes, which ended up being entirely backwards. Once the signs were up we were off the races. The course is well documented and the signs have the distances. The tees are grass or walking path. There is no real need for paved tees yet. My family absolutely loves this course; however, we don't make it there as a family much just because it's 45 minutes from our house. Basket 1: Par 3, 410ft (minus a few since it was recently changed). This is a great basket to test your driving skills in windy conditions. We've not aced this yet, but we've landed a few feet from the basket. Basket 2: Par 3: 320ft. Drive straight into pine trees and hopefully you can snake it through or curve it around. We've not aced this yet, but we've hit the basket. Basket 3: Par 4: 429ft. No chance of an ace... On your second throw you either have to thread it through the eye of the needle or throw a backhand hyzer up over the trees. Basket 4: Par 4: 330ft. No chance of an ace on this basket either. The first throw bends to the left and the next throw snakes down the walking path through the woods. If you get off the beaten path, prepare to get frustrated... ha! Basket 5: Par3: 180ft. Throw a backhand hyzer and fade it to the left at the end. We've hit the basket but have not aced yet. Basket 6: Par 3: 155ft. I'd recommend a forehand throw so it fades to the right at the end. We've hit the basket but have not aced yet. Basket 7: Par 3: 190ft. This is a shot into the woods. I don't have any real strategy for this one... good luck! Basket 8a: Par 4: 349ft. This basket is very deceiving!! This will test your driving skills and your patience. Be cautious on your send throw. It very well may roll all the way back down the hill. Windy days make this basket a killer. We've landed close to the basket, but that's about it. Basket 9: Par 3: 355ft. Throw downhill and keep it as low as possible. You typically have the wind from the west at your back. We've landed next to the basket, but haven't aced it yet. Caution: Watch out for poison ivy on basket 4 at the turn. Caution 2: Watch out for land mines (aka dog droppings).

I'm so grateful for a fenced in playground area with bathrooms!…read more It's a great playground for multiple ages, there are some shaded picnic tables, and you can walk over to the splash pad when it opens at noon. I look forward to taking my littles again soon!

As soon as you drive in, this magnificent (perspective of a kid) playground appears to the left. It's even called the Kids Kingdom. My kids had a blast. Even my 20 month old had a wonderful time. We brought some PIZZA, ate on one of the nice picnic tables within Kids Kingdom. However, I must admit I had a specific intent for checking out this park; disc golf!! There is an 18 hole disc golf course. There are plenty of trees, dog legs (left and right turns... not actual legs of dogs), and water hazards to make it interesting. There is a nice variety of long and short throws. The tee pads were extremely easy to find; however, the baskets from the tee pads weren't as easy to find. If I had the map, that I attached to this review, from the beginning it would have been a different story. I skipped one basket because I assumed the drive was a little longer. I ended up throwing it 3/4 of the way to the next basket. No worries... I'll know better next time. I didn't know what PAR was for the baskets, so I assumed everything was PRO PAR and ended with 1 over for the 18 holes. I know there is a lot of room for improvement. I will definitely take my family to this park again!! My wife also wanted me to mention on this review that the bathrooms were nice and right next to the playground. My 6 year old didn't realize the bathrooms were so close and found a tree out in the distance. You'd think he was born in a barn or something....

Throughout my time on the nation-wide disc golf tour, I think this one tops them all. Only offered…read more~3 weeks of the year for the amateur national tournament, this course is the ultimate challenge. Because it's played on a tobaggon course, the elevation is supreme. Hole #1 your playing downhill ~150 ft. with hole #2 playing right back up the hill to an even more elevated basket. Following both of these holes, #3 is potentially my favorite hole i've ever played. A monster of a hole (~700 ft with a 200+ ft decline), this hole can make or break your entire round. Played well, the hole can be 3ed. Played poorly, you're looking at a 6 or 7. The hole is lined to the right by a heavily wooded area, which is known to eat discs. This course has great risk/reward. Nearly every hole has an opportunity to go bigger with the option of reducing the remaining distance, but will destroy you if you miss the line. This championship course is all about setting yourself up for the next shot. With about three or four "deuce" holes & an additional three or four "tough deuce" holes, you're going to have to get a couple of them to come out with a good round. The rough is thick & the terrain is intense - so if you're not an above average golfer, do not play this course. If you're an advanced player looking for the ultimate challenge - come play. If you're looking for great disc golf & happen to be lucky enough to come when the course is installed, this course is worth traveling to play.
