Our family saw our first roller derby game here this spring!
I've never been to this part of town, but it was pretty straight-forward to find and navigate to.
I scouted parking options on Google Maps prior to arrival, and had a Plan A and Plan B. Lucky for us, Plan A worked, and we used the dedicated lots for the facility. Be warned, though, there's an uphill walk from these lots to the event hall at the top of the hill!
Memorial Hall is a pretty and historic building on the outside, but the inside of the hall is really where the ornate beauty can be seen! Archways, ornate achitecture, and beautiful columns and paintings on the walls on the inside really highlight the talent of tradespeople from long, long ago!
This is a medium-sized event venue, seating a few thousand. Perfect for our roller derby event! However, some of the corridors were thin and navigation definitely was not up to modern standards...but, that is all to be expected in such a historic venue.
There was decent legroom, and normal chair widths. There's a lower and upper seating level, but both seemed to offer good views!
Although there's much to love, my main "complaint" is that the building does feel in need of some love, TLC, and a big refresh to fully display and bask in it's full glory. Maybe the other would be that it appeared that parking was definitely a bit of an issue, being in an older part of town and having limited surface spaces available, and that's before getting into the accessibility issues with the relatively steep hill on which it resides. read more
