We've been trying to get a home equity loan for some time and it's been a very slow process. I've done business with other credit unions before it's never taken this long. We have good credit scores and have given them everything they've asked for. We've had to make several calls to find out where we are in the process. I have IRA's with Members First and now that I am retired and needing to withdraw money monthly expenses it is a total pain in effort the make withdrawals. Got a auto loan through this credit union because they gave us a good interest rate. Found out the toll free numbers to call do not work. I called a few different numbers to ask some questions to get my online banking. After going through an automated system for about 10 minutes. I finally get to a actual person. He had a very strong accent and was hard to understand, so there was a lot Can you repeat that? I think he was trying to sell me some kind a life alert? I will probably refinance at different credit union ASAP. This place seems very sketchy. read more

God forbid you make a deposit that was a bad check from a customer, This bank will remove any and all atm deposits and make you physically go to a branch. They will not even accept CASH at an atm. This bank is NOT user friendly, and does not care one iota about anyone. Don read more

I've been with MFCU for over four years now as they awarded me a scholarship and I was so thankful. That is the only reason I give two stars. There have been a few small issues along the way, and the small issues have morphed into larger and larger issues until the last straw of the last straw. At first they could not place my P.O. Box address on my checks. My other bank did that, but OK. Next incident is, I called about a small charge accompanying an Ebay order, it was the spice nutmeg I ordered that came from country of origin. MFCU advised me that the small extra charge on my account was a 'surcharge' added on by them because it was an international order. Huh? There was no currency exchange involved because it's Ebay, and I'm not sure of the behind-the-scenes mechanisms for international commerce, and it was only a few dollars, and I let it go. Then I ordered a few items of clothing from an online retailer that advertised that they were U.S. based. The clothing arrived way not as described. The trench rain jacket was like the plastic grey material that packages arrive in and it was ill-fitting. I contacted the company to make a return and was told I would have to ship the garments to Milan, Italy for return. I called UPS for an estimate for this endeavor and was quoted over $300 of course to ship something to Italy. Next I called MFCU because I used my debit / master card for the purchase and they told me that since I authorized the transaction, they could not help with this dispute, although it was clearly an unethical and predatory practices situation. So I am stuck paying for this junk that I cannot return. The online check deposit function on their website was a nightmare for a long time until they fixed it. I called and went into the branch and could never get that one resolved. Well, I won't go into every little detail of disappointment, wonder why I hung in with them for so long. The last straw was this: my debit card was dinged for an unauthorized $3 charge, which is what happens often preceding a large fraudulant transaction, so my debit card was shut down. My schedule is so hectic, it was over a week and I still hadn't made it into the branch to grab my replacement card. I called to see if it could be mailed. The kind representative offered an application for a MFCU Visa that had zero annual fee and an interest rate under 10%! This way, I would have two cards, and not be financially stranded if a fraud ding happened again. I said sign me up. I needed to sign the application for the new Visa and it was sent to me electronically. The Docusign she emailed to me could not be opened. I fooled around with it, but the program was either forcing me to purchase a subscription or at the very least, sign up for a free trial. I want neither, and could not get into the document. Now I have received DocuSign emails from many years for electronic signature and never had this problem before. I emailed the representative and she emailed me back with a question like, 'At what screen is it asking you to log in?' I didn't know what to say to this and while on the surface, her response sounds concerned and helpful, it is just lobbing the issue back in my court. She didn't call me, she didn't offer an alternative. So, OK, I made some planning to get into the branch on the following Monday to sign the paperwork in person and pick up my new cards. Luckily I called first because the branch representative said, 'Oh no, you cannot come in and sign those documents. You must sign those documents straight from Ms._________.' Again, no offer of, Let me put you on hold and find out, or let me make a call and get back with you. Just a big nope, can't do it that way. So I emailed Ms.__________ again, not so nice this time. Definately some testiness there. She calls me and says she had a sick child last week and that's why she didn't call. Well that's terrible news, but all is OK with the kid now, and guess what, I can go into the branch to sign the paperwork and get my new cards. OK. I need an appointment now, you know, the Covid. So I get to the branch and get into a banker's office and signing electronically and then there's a page that requires my signature that gives MFCU the express right to go into my account and take a payment should the situatuon ever arise that I am late making my Visa payment. HUH? Heaven forbid I am ever in a situation where I am unable to meet a financial obligation. If I ever come to be in that situation, I imagine I would be scrambling for gas money or food money, or possibly shelter money and I will certainly NOT hand the autonomy of the decision as to where to slice the pie over to MFCU or any other financial institution. Yep, definately in the Dow bubble. So I called Wildfire Credit Union and asked questions like, can my address on my checks be my P.O. Box? Yes! How is your dispute process? Yes! Do you require my consent that you can take a payment if I'm late? No! Go to Wildfire. read more

I've been a member of the credit union before it was members 1st . i purchased a vehicle and my loan officer wouldn't allow me to get the warranty protection so the 90 day warranty from the dealership was all i had . day 93 my engine went on my car so they loaned me the 5000 on top of my loan to fix it . i wanted to buy a 3yr warranty for the motor and once again no . appox 1 yr 2 months motor needs a 2500 repair .so now ive come to members 1st for the whatever loan and they say im upside down on my car loan and they won't loan me anymore cash. Ever since the merger this credit union is more of a bank! Frankly right now I'd rather go to a bank because this "credit union" that is "members first" does not actually put members first. They would much rather take all of your money like a bank. No worries I will be leaving by the end of the year. read more

"Members First" is an ironic title because they seem more interested in acquiring other CU's than in servicing members. I was a satisfied FEDCOM member for several years before they were purchased by Members First. It's been over 2 months since the merger announcement and I still can't cut checks online from my HSA account. It took three separate calls to: 1.) get online access; 2.) get the bill pay feature turned on, and; 3.) try to get the ability to add a payee. After the 3 calls, they discovered that it was an HSA account and bill pay doesn't work for HSA. They were surprised to find that FEDCOM members paid bills out of their HSA... Really??? Is it so difficult to anticipate that members would want to pay bills out of their HSA account? As of today, they still don't have the capability and can't provide an estimated date of when the capability will be added. My advice: Stay away for a few years until they get the kinks worked out read more

I was a member of MFCU for years. I always received top notch performance from the representatives of the credit union. Once the merger was completed the service and care went down considerably. Then I had some personal difficulty with a sick child and the compassion was not there at all. Medical bills got out of hand and income had to go down. They were terrible to work with. Find my happy? I did, I switched to another credit union. I am back on my feet now, so all is well. I am in small business and work with other small businesses. I thought a credit union would treat their members better. I have had to deal with them on the bahalf of others recently and I see nothing has changed. It is a nightmare trying to get anything accomplished. There will be another account closing with mfcu. So beware, if things ever get a bit rocky, as they can for any of us, they will not be there for you. read more

DO NO USE THIS BANK TO GET A MORTGAGE OR DO ANY KIND OF BANKING WITH THEM, AVOID THEM AT ALL COSTS. I Had a date of March 22 to close on my house, they knew about the closing date since the middle of Feburary and agreed that they would be able to get it done by then. Here today is March 22 and no closing, they wouldn't give my realtor a call back or tell them why they would not be closing. My realtor had to hear it from the title company that they are not closing and would not give a date when they could close. It sounds like this is not the first time by the other reveiws. We lost $600 because of Members First Credit Union. The cash was not properly dispensed from the drive-up teller and the cash, along with a driver's license was stolen. The credit union did not obtain a signed receipt, which is normal practice, meaning is cannot prove that the cash was dispensed. Members First did not call the police as a result of the theft. We as the customers had to do that. Employees were evasive and managers were unavailable to talk about the situation immediately after it happened. Their security camera is placed in such a way that it can not be identified who took money from which tube. When we complained to the president of the company he blamed us for the stolen money and lied about what we said. We filed a report with the Bureau of Consumer Protection, Better Business Bureau, and the Members First Credit Union Board of Directors and Supervisory Committee. We are considering contacting the news media and making our experience known through social media. read more
