Love this place!!! So many fun unusual gifts to be had. Great cards & little token items.

Buying a gift or need some acquisition therapy? Mellow Monkey is the place to go. Also I recommend following Mellow Monkey on Facebook as the posts are extremely entertaining, except for the kimono posts, skip those. So many unusual items, most very nice and some very naughty. Friendly and informative staff. Prices from just a few dollars to over one thousand. Small tokens to large works of art. Trinkets and treasures. Wedding, anniversary, birthday, romantic and funny gifts for any occasion. It's an experience and not just a shopping trip. Be sure to get the loyalty card, you'll be back. I'm getting 20% off my next purchase! Say hi to Howard! read more

The customer service in here is fabulous. If someone got bad service, they must've deserved it. I've never had anything but enthusiastic service from the owner and staff. It tells me they're treated well and love working there. I limit how often I go in because there's always something I want. If you need a gift for any occasion it's a great excuse to GO and shop local. It's the best store in town and worth a trip if you're from out of town. read more

Such a cool shop! We stop in whenever we're in the area. They carry beautiful home decor, jewelry, wallets, greeting cards, stickers, baby gifts, novelty items.. so many really neat things. Love it! read more

Mellow Monkey is my favorite destination when I'm anywhere near Stratford! From beautiful to irreverent and hilarious, it's a wonderful store to find a perfect gift or something you didn't know you needed but upon first sight you know you cannot live without. The owner's social media is highly entertaining. The support the store spearheads for local causes makes me even happier to shop here. read more

This is a very fun store with a huge variety of items. I was in there for over an hour looking around!Great service.

I was searching for an "unusual" store... Really I was looking for a place where I could find last-minute Christmas gifts that my family hadn't "seen" already. We do the bulk of our Christmas shopping this weekend and we tend to go into the same stores and so it can be a challenge to find unique items that will surprise them! Saw reviews about this place on Reddit and it lived up the hype! I found a beautiful stained glass piece and there was a whole room of reasonably priced Christmas decor! Excited to get these items home for them to unwrap!!! read more

I recently visited the Mellow Monkey with a friend . It was definitely not what we expected . They did have some nice things but a lot of similarities. The location was a bit sketchy it's down a long road we saw no cars until we got there it's a warehouse but the store was very small and tight quarters . There were a few people inside but it was congested trying to see certain items. I wouldn't make another trip down there . Enjoy there are some unique items. Thanks Chris M read more

A really interesting store with plenty of different, off the wall items. The store feels like the type of store we visit when we go away on a trip and are looking for local type items. A really cool vibe at this place. You can surely get something different at this place. The prices were not bad at all. I actually liked the fact they had plenty of local flavor items. read more

This is the best gift shop in the area. The extensive selection of such fun, interesting and beautiful items is epic. There are so many options it takes me at least twice around to be sure I'm not missing anything. I love taking friends who've never been before and watching them fall in love with the place too. I highly recommend them all year but Christmas time is even more special there. The staff has always been friendly and helpful every time I've been there. read more

Very unique store. Every time I go I find something! There's a lot to see and take in so give yourself some time when coming to explore here. I also love the location. Right by the abandoned army engine factory, which is something I find so interesting to drive by. Go shop here and enjoy then grab a drink down the road at the windsock. read more

As a long-time customer of Mellow Monkey, I can tell you that if you make the trip, you will not be disappointed. There truly is something for everyone, all staged and curated with care. I have purchased the most beautiful items, from greeting cards, to hostess gifts, including items for my own home - from local maps to home decor, candles, jewelry, and all the rest. Come in for a visual experience you won't want to miss and see what everyone is talking about. Stratford's hidden gem... make a day of it! read more

This place is an example of very impressive advertising. Products are cheaper and there's more variety at a Marshall's or a T. J. Maxx. I'm sure people are dissuaded from leaving anything but a glowing review. They don't want to be called "petulant" or some other insult from the unprofessional business owner. The products are nice enough. I really wanted to spend money here, especially since there was a $10 off over $50 coupon. read more

Looking for a unique gift or card or just something fun for your own home? Mellow Monkey is the perfect spot for all of these. Tucked away on a side street across from Sikorsky Airport, you'll be surprised to find this gem that's stocked with all kinds of interesting items. When you walk in, you come across all kinds of signs, including old ones with railroad stops or the hand-lettered variety that are so popular right now. As you head further inside, you will see the space is filled with so much that catches your eye. In addition to dozens of different kinds of candles and all sorts of beach-themed accents, you will find plenty of cool things with a local twist like the "Real Housewives of Milford" glasses and the "B*tch, please, I'm from Fairfield" mugs. Also, you can freshen up your own decor with items from Mellow Monkey like lamps, clocks, wreaths and framed art. I had two gifts on my list and found the perfect items at Mellow Monkey. I was thrilled that they were placed into a gift bag with bright blue tissue paper and a small sand dollar accent. The whole package just looked so thoughtful and absolutely perfect. Oh, and I found the best cards to go along with the gifts too! The gifts included the smaller candles in a tin and the report back was that my friends loved them. Mellow Monkey is definitely a fantastic find and a great place to shop for one-of-a-kind gifts and items for your home. I can't wait to go back! read more

Visited Mellow Monkey again today to use a gift card and pick up some Christmas gifts. As always am impressed with the welcoming, knowledgeable and unhurried staff. So many wonderful, quality items from jewelry to clothing and home decor you will not find anywhere else. They also have a rewards card and left me with a 20% discount to use on my next visit. Also as if reading my mind, he tucked a Lindt chocolate into my bag, which did not survive the short ride home. Will be returning in the next couple of weeks as there surely is something for everyone on my gift list! Don't miss out on Mellow Monkey! read more

This place was completely rude to us as soon as we entered the building. I get being safe but then there is being utterly disrespectful (owner telling me to pay attention to him as I look at the store for a minute). I am a physician so believe me I know the extent of this virus but how they handled the situation was not appropriate. I do not recommend anyone to go to this store. I would never spend a penny of my money here and it's unfortunate because they do have unique cute things. People spend your money at the local hard working good stores not the arrogant better than you attitude store owners. Disgusting!! To the owners comment. My bfs and I masks were on as we entered the store! I have been to many stores that also uphold the integrity of their stores and the concern and well being of staff and employees and have never been treated with disrespect. Having recently been to Nantucket all the stores require full mask coverage as well as hand sanitizer upon entering. They also have limited # of individuals in the store and policies that don't allow trying on clothes. In all of these stores, I have been politely reminded of the rules if they felt that I wasn't upholding all of their specifications. Never been treated as I was a child and being reprimanded. There is no excuse for that! read more

Mellow Monkey is an great store and wonderful part of the community here in Stratford. I usually go every other week since it's always changing and adding items. Items are high priced but nice. Different, fun to spend time in their store. However the staff is not at all customer friendly. They have an attitude and when very busy their customer service and friendliness is horrible. The turn off for me is the staff. read more

My daughter (who is well-behaved and does not act out in stores) accidentally broke something at this store and the owner was incredibly gracious. My daughter felt badly about it and didn't know what to expect because this never happened before. The owner gently told her "it's ok accidents happen" and was genuinely kind to us. We will come back anytime we need to buy gifts now because of this interaction.. and for the unique local/handmade items they sell. The situation could've went differently and caused my daughter to feel worse than she already did for making a mistake that anyone could make but this kind act taught her a lesson without shaming her. Thanks for giving a little kid a break.. love your shop! read more

Great place with tons of gifts from low-priced to high-end. A lot of things specific to our greater local area, and things from beyond too. The staff is helpful and the array of items is cool. Location is convenient to beach areas and shoreline. read more

I LOVE this store. It's truly a hidden gem and was recommended to me by my coworker who also got me a christmas gift from there which I loved. Be careful because you can easily spend an hour in this store, I picked up a few gifts for my friends and will definitely come back soon! read more

Absolutely one of the best places in Stratford to go. I love how much the owner is in touch with the community and how well his staff treats the customers. I've gone in on several occasions pre pandemic and was helped beyond normal customer service. During pandemic I was online shopping and reached out via message and was helped as well. The owner went out of his way to make sure what I was ordering was in stock before I placed my order and showed me similar items in case it was not. Love sharing a town with another small business that holds integrity and safety as much as I do. Great job!!!! read more

Love, love, love this shop. Chock full of so many wonderful items, some whimsy, some practical, some decorative......basically some of everything. And the card selection - just the best and far less expensive than the $8.99 Hallmark stuff out there. Whether it be cards, or masks, or interesting food products, a wall hanging, kid trinkets, candles, kitchen ware, host/hostess gifts, and on and on. Just a fun place to go - warm and welcoming, - and sure to bring a smile to your face. read more
