Sometimes it's just nice to be in a newer, comfortable and spacious hotel room even though it's not right in the middle of the historic part of town.
We went to Valencia for one day to attend the concert that my son's choral group was singing at in the heart of the Valencia City Centre. It just so happened that March 17, 2015 fell right in the middle of Valencia's annual Las Fallas celebration, so that was a bit crazy.
Every March the city stages one of Spain's most spectacular fiestas, Las Fallas, in which giant papier-mâché sculptures are burned in the streets and fireworks are set off. It is a little bizarre because they were shooting off fireworks in the middle of the day and the streets were jam packed with people. I really felt like a sardine in a can and got a little claustrophobic, but it was fun.
We were so glad our hotel, Melia Palacio de Congresos, was far away from the action because fireworks were going off all day and into the night. The traffic was crazy too and I was thankful I didn't have to drive myself around town.
We stayed on the 23rd floor overlooking the big fountain in front. I wish we would have been on the eastside of the building because we would have had a view of the ocean. If you ever book a room try to get one on the higher floors on the eastside.
The room was spacious, the bed was amazingly comfortable and the bathroom was huge. They also had a good breakfast and lounge.
I'd definitely stay in the hotel again if I was in Valencia and I would highly recommend it. read more
