Had a wonderful stay at the Melia Bilbao, which from what I understand was previously owned by another hotel chain and the Melia branch completely remodeled it a few years back.
The city of Bilbao has somewhat of an odd layout in the sense of its circular designs with most attractions being located on the outer edges. In my opinion the Melia Bilbao has a great spot, right next to the river, easy access to the tram/bus station, and close to the popular Guggenheim museum. As for food options, of course you can stroll downtown which is all of a ten minute walk away, but the hotel also offers a spectacular restaurant as well. The staff is absolutely splendid as well, used their front desk service on many occasions to help navigate the city and routes to others cities as well! Onto the room, which is not your typical European style hotel room (Cramped and not many amenities). Two large queen beds, wonderful views (In some rooms), large bathroom with plenty of goods, and a decent media setup. Also the number one priority for me was met here, and that being decent room service and a clean room!
I am one who does not splurge on hotel rooms, but this hotel was one I definitely needed to do so in. While it may not be the cheapest option in Bilbao, it is a great home base. read more
