Our first experience with Hotel Ercilla was with the "Bellboy." He watched comfortably from inside of the hotel as we carried all of our luggage through the pouring rain and struggled to get everyone's bags down the stairs and through the doors into the hotel. He watched as we carried our bags down more stairs and up to the front desk. We checked in at the front desk, picked up all of our luggage and carried it to the elevator as he watched. We waited for the elevator and once the doors opened, he quickly rushed over, forcefully pulled a small backpack out of my hands and pushed his way into a very tiny elevator with us. It was cramped and extremely uncomfortable to be in such close quarters with him, especially after what had just happened. In the elevator, he smiled strangely and said "You are very tired, I will carry this for you." The ride up to the room was extremely awkward, uncomfortably packed, and frankly, his actions, gestures, and expressions throughout our stay at this hotel were quite creepy. As we got out of the elevator, he continued with his vice grip on the very small backpack as he quickly walked to our room door. From our room door, he watched us haul all of our biggest and heaviest luggage, as he clung to the tiniest and lightest little backpack. As I opened the door to my room, he pushed past us and quickly walked into the room. I watched in disbelief as each of his footsteps left muddy spots on the carpeting of our room.
During our stay at Hotel Ercilla, we found that multiple things were not functioning in the room, including the thermostat, so it was blasting heat non-stop all night. I had to ask at the front desk more than once if they would be able to repair the things that were not working, they said they would and over the course of our stay, not one thing was repaired.
It was very difficult to sleep at the Hotel Ercilla. Not only were the rooms unbearably hot throughout the nights, the rooms are also very noisy. There was a constant loud humming/buzzing noise in the room at night. Again, the front desk claimed they would fix this and never did. The walls and floors must be extremely thin, as it seemed like I could hear every sound through the walls. At night, there were noises directly above the bed. The sounds were similar to as if someone was sweeping a thin floor directly above me throughout the entire night. Along with that, it sounded like someone was walking around on the floor all hours of the night.
In the rooms, they nickel and dime you for nearly every item around the room, so you don't know what is included in your room rate and what will be added to your bill when you leave.
When we first got to our room, the floor drain in the bathroom reeked of sewage. Throughout the course of our stay, some days our room completely reeked of fuel oil and other mornings, the raw sewage stench would rise up from the drain.
Some days we would have 3-4 hotel employees enter our room in one day. Each one had a different area of the room to clean or restock. Sometimes the employees would unlock and just walk right into our room without even knocking, leading to a couple of very uncomfortable situations.
This place is terrible. I would certainly recommend searching out different accommodations for your stay in beautiful city of Bilbao. read more
