I sat there for about 5 mins, during which time, someone spilled soup on me AND someone tripped on my table and used my shoulder to catch themselves. I asked if I could move and he walked away or didn't understand, so I separated a table for 4 in the corner (so he could still use the other two seats), and then the male employee YELLED at me, across the restaurant saying that I "cannot sit there! Get up lady, get up! No no no!" He could still use the other table next to me, but continued to yell that I couldn't sit there. Another man tried to grab my food and move me. There were plenty of other tables open for 4 people, the restaurant was not that busy. These men should be ashamed to have treated a customer that way. He also tried to make me sit outside in the boiling hot sun, but perhaps put the imaginary group of 4 outside instead of someone who was inside and already eating? I have never seen a professional person yell at a customer - especially a solo female traveler! To top it off, there was a solo male customer sitting behind me, the exact same table arrangement, but no one yelled at him. Seems like they don't respect women eating by themselves. How rude, disrespectful and inappropriate. I hope this place is shut down. I will be telling everyone I know not to come here. Shame on you!

What a delight to find this gem of a restaurant! The lovely waiter (Lebanese cutie whose name we didn't get) was excellent and quite helpful. He answered our questions and led us to choose fantastic dishes. We decided to share two appetizers and two mains. We selected the corvino and the tempura veggies, both excellent. Our entrees were the incredibly flavorful lentils with eggplant and the risotto. Both were melt-in-your-mouth delicious! Although we were more than completely stuffed we were talked into taking a slice of the vegan ginger cake with us. So glad we did - the coconut frosting was the perfect amount of sweet and the cake the right amount of moist. As we were leaving our lovely waiter gave us each a taste of moroño, the distilled local berry. It's something like 40% alcohol and will our hair on your chest! Definitely firewater! Apparently the locals drink it with breakfast! We will be back to Elska should we return to this region of Portugal!

Their menu changes frequently, based on the fresh fish and produce they can get for each season. My husband and I spoke to the proprietors, who said they were trained in London and then by Portuguese Michelin-rated restauranteurs. It shows. Excellent food; excellent presentation; excellent service; charming, casual atmosphere. Fabulous.
