We headed out to Springfield since neither of us had been down there for awhile. First stop was... Custom Cup Coffee to get us caffeinated for an afternoon of shenanigans. We dropped in to a cozy little coffeehouse. This place had been on my list for awhile and on the way down, I gave Em a list of local coffee places we can try and this is the one that she picked and what a great choice it was. I got my usual Americano and Emily got the Beekeeper. Along with my love of coffee, I do love stickers and grabbed a giant one for $4 and the barista hooked us up with some free little ones. Score! They do have a small food menu, too, if you come here and need something to compliment your caffeinated drink. I usually look around and snap a few photos while waiting but I barely got turned around before my drink was being called out. That's the fastest I've ever gotten an Americano. Emily's drink was not far behind. Granted we had no one in front of us when we ordered, it was Jimmy Johns level of freaky fast. We were going to sit outside but they were putting up their outside furniture for some reason so we took a seat inside. This Americano was spot-on for what I crave when I want one. Not only was it tasty but for being 20oz, it somehow lasted me until we walked over to Buzz Bomb Brewing Co. and I started drinking a beer. Emily was in love with her latte and let me have a little sip and wow... it was delicious. It was no surprise that she finished her drink in half the time it took me to finish mine. Flavors change- we have a sampled Caramel Mou, Moccacino, Pistachio with Cervia Sea Salt, Limoncello, Cantaloupe, and a Cheesecake variety. My personal favorites are Moccacino (coffee and chocolate-yum!), and Limoncello (tart lemony and refreshing). My gelato partner loves the pistachio. I think it's a husband and wife team working and you will hear Italian spoken, as this is true Italian gelato. They are friendly and the small shop gets people through timely, although you can try samples, and that does slow up the line a bit. On a chilly Friday evening in spring there were about a dozen people in line at opening- and a recent Saturday night had nearly all flavors gone shortly after 8 pm. Our intention was to try a few of the different specialty cake/bakery stores in the Springfield, IL area, but after meeting Dena and tasting her incredible cupcakes, there was no need. She had the most delicious freshly baked cupcakes waiting for us and was very helpful on design ideas and budget needs. So affordable! She truly cared about what we wanted and I was impressed with how fun and welcoming her bakery is. It is as colorful as she is! I have so many things to stress about leading up to the wedding, but this is not one of them! A diamond in the rough and a great place for delicious treats…read more We were visiting Lincoln's hometown of Springfield, Ill and wanted to get a snack. We found this place online. It is a little south of the city and west of the interstate but it is absolutely worth the detour. It is a rustic place called the Apple barn and parking is right in front. Their website gives a lot more information about it being more than just the main shop that is in the barn. They began as a family apple orchard and expanded over the years into a collection of attractions including two restaurants, a general store, a creamery, a winery, a candy factory, and a Christmas shop, all centered around the original barn built in 1910. We only visited the barn with the bakery goodies and the very friendly staff who helped us get some delicious snacks for the trip back to the hotel. It was great! Even if you don't plan to buy anything, it's worth taking some time to visit to get a snack for your trip or, if you are going to walk around the site, for the extra visit. We found it to be one of the more enjoyable stops to the area capping off a great visit to the Springfield, Ill area.
