A nice educational informative building with samples of live and taxidermy animals of various species. It is a nice addition to experience of Hammonasset and worth stopping in. They have a small shop and a room that can be used for class or party reasons. If you're here and they're open just take a few minutes to explore

Awesome place with a vast collection of taxidermy animals, real live birds, turtles, frogs, snakes, fish etc. They have some games in which you can press the buttons to play a sound and then try to recognize the name of the animal. A good place to take your kids to make them aware about the different species around us. The staff told us that everything that's on display in the center is present in CT. They have a huge parking as well. Walking around the center takes not more than 30 minutes.

Overall, I have enjoyed living in the Audubon, but unfortunately the lack of security in the…read moreparking garage and the new management's lack of response to repeated break-ins completely outweighs the positives of the building. In the last 6 months, myself and several residents have had their cars broken into multiple times. When the break ins are reported to the building management, their response is to blame LAZ and say there is nothing they can do. The is unacceptable. There is an obvious solution to this problem - Install cameras on each floor so that the garage can be monitored in real time. The only cameras in the garage are on the first floor, and despite repeated requests for them to install cameras on the other floors, nothing has been done. I was told that a security officer reviews the first floor cameras and will somehow know when there is a break in on a higher floor. This makes no sense. How does the security officer have the ability to watch someone walk or drive into the garage and determine if they are planning to break into a car on another floor? Clearly this system does not work, as there have been multiple occasions where someone has broken into 10 plus cars in a night. If there were cameras, the security guard would see the breaks ins and intervene during the first break in, rather than allowing for dozens of cars to be broken into. I've been promised multiple times that someone from the Spinnaker will call me to discuss the break ins, but I have not received a call. At least the prior building management had the decency to be transparent about car thefts and break ins by sending email updates to all residents. The new management team has not sent one message acknowledging the break ins or identifying steps that are being taken to address the issue.

"You tell me that you've heard every sound there is And your…read morebird can sing But you can't hear me You can't hear me" (Lennon & McCartney) Within a stone's throw of mega busy I-95 you'll find this lovely and serene nature walk. You can expect to find a flat and very walkable trail that winds through woods with plenty of pretty water views, boardwalks, and wooden bridges. You'll also see around a dozen informational panels that describe the various species of birds found in the park. One of the first things we saw was one of the coolest things we saw! The founder and first president of the CT Audubon Society was Mabel Osgood Wright, and after her 1934 passing, her will provided for the construction of a free-standing chimney to provide a nesting "home" for her favorite bird - the Chimney Swift. What is the CT Audobon Society? Their website says the Society "protects CT's bords, other wildlife, and their habitats through conservation, education, and advocacy. Founded in 1898, Connecticut Audubon manages 22 wildlife sanctuaries encompassing more than 3,400 acres of open space in Connecticut and educates over 100,000 children and adults annually." There is a museum on site, but it is under renovation and was closed.

We went for a nice long walk in the woods at the Connecticut Birdcraft Museum and Bird sanctuary…read more We were driving near there and saw a sign for it so,we drove straight there. We did hear a lot of birds singing but did not get any photos of them. The grounds were beautiful and an easy drive onto the highway from there. This is the first private bird sanctuary in the United States and the gardens are planted and taken care of by the Fairfield, CT garden club. They do a beautiful job, I am so glad I visited. It was also great to read about the founder of the sanctuary, Mabel Osgood Wright and see the chimney she had erected so a local chimney swift bird could nest there and raise their chicks.
