Another big 5-star review for Arsala of Mehndi Maniac!! Based on the other Yelp reviews, I hired Arsala for my best friend's Blessingway Ceremony (spiritual baby shower) in San Jose. She was very eager to share design ideas before we met, she spent a lot of time discussing options via email, confirmed her appointment by email the night before, and showed up right on time. Super organized! I was already excited to have her paint my BFF's pregnancy belly, but was really amazed by her speed, her skill and creativity, and her super-sweet personality! She quietly joined the ceremony and worked on my friend's belly design as we went around the room of ladies and did the ceremony. Although she was there to do a 'job', she was clearly moved by our ceremony and let her emotions show - which was really cool. By the end of the day, she felt like another one of our guests. She never intruded, but simply stayed present and very naturally fit right in. What an amazing person! Love that her dyes are organic. Love her artwork! Love her sweet, honest personality. After my friend's belly was done, she did little hand/leg/arm designs on guests. Everyone was so amazed by her work that every single guest got henna'd! We paid in cash or check, and her prices are VERY reasonable -- $5 and $7 for finger/hand/arm/leg designs. I LOVE this henna place. I got quoted a design from the finger to the wrist at another place and it was $50 for ONE hand. Then called Arsala for the same design and quoted me $7! Off the bat she came off as very sweet, which makes it a bit less nerve-wrecking going into someones home. I was half an hour late (because I'm horrible with directions. Yes, I totally fit into that "women are bad drivers" stereotype and I embrace it everyday) She had somewhere to be about an hour from then, but she still welcomed me and reassured me that she could get my design done by then. I picked a pretty simple design, and she did it with ease in less than 20 minutes. Her freehand design is so beautiful and intricate, and you can tell she really knows what she's doing. All her ink is organic, so no funky chemicals will be seeping into your skin! The only downside is that you have to keep your henna paste on for several hours longer (because it's organic), so definitely come at night when you can just sleep with it on, or schedule an appointment on a day you feel like just lounging in bed. I got my henna done on Friday, and it's now Wednesday. It's starting to fade away, and I wish it would've lasted a few more days because I love it so much! But I'll be scheduling my appointments with her all the time. I recommend her for all of your henna needs! read more

I am slowly recovering from my henna surgery as I write this. Arsala did a fantastic job on my bridal henna. I learned about her from a mutual friend, and am very happy she had the time to beautify me up before my nikkah. The consultation was great, and she really listened to me, and incorporated what we discussed into my design. I was very unsure about going through with this, all I knew was that I wanted henna for my nikkah... and that's about it. She made the process very easy, and found me a design that satisfied my indecisiveness. She was also very friendly and easy to talk to, which made me feel more like a friend was doing this for me rather than a cold business transaction. In regard to the actual work, lemme try my best at describing even though I'm not use to talking about this. :) The top hand and the bottom hand look like one seamless design even though she did them in two stages. Her hand is very steady, and she's able to make thin and thick lines very close together. Oh, she does everything free hand as well. She also was able to incorporate two symbols on my hand, a cartoon figure and Japanese flowers. She just googled it, and was able to do it on the spot. I think this can be a very big plus for mehndi paries for girls who want unique designs. My feet she fulled up completely, and it also has the same seamlessness as the hands. I wanted to also get my nails painted on my feet, but we ran out of time. I'm sure if we had the time she could have done that for me fantastically as well. Oh, another thing. Even though we ran out of time, she left a henna cone here for my maid of honor to do my toenails and soles of my feet. From the start to the end she was so professional, and left nothing incomplete or rushed. I have no doubt that if I need henna done on me again, I am hiring her. Same with recommending her to any of my friends. Hopefully for my walima in June she'll be available and it be another chance to look aweeeeeeeeeesome. I can't wait to show this off to my future-husband and our families on Saturday! Tips for other brides shopping around, please go with her. I paid ~80$ less than I would have if I ordered a package form another artist I looked at, and at LEAST 100$ less if I had done it by the hour with another artist. Even though Arsala was very quick, henna does take a long time to do when it's as intense as birdal henna. I'm really late about getting to reviews ... but I couldn't not (whoa double negative) come back and give Arsala a glowing review for her work and her time. She was able to see my friend and I last minute on a Tuesday (I texted her Monday) to have henna done on our hands for Coachella the following weekend. I really appreciated her being willing to see us on such short notice, for letting us into her home and being super friendly. Even in her state (last weeks of pregnancy) she worked very diligently, and her free hand desings are awesome. More importantly, Arsala doesn't charge you insane prices -- another mehndi artist had quoted me at $100 for what I wanted (2 hands and 2 palms) while Arsala quoted me more at $40-$50. SUPER DUPER (like a couple months) late with this review but I'm still not over what a great time I had getting my Mendhi done by Arsala. Now, long story short, my best friend and I had wanted to do something before she left for Europe all summer. We both had always loved the look of henna but did not want to be stuck with something we didn't like or wouldn't be appropriate for our workplace. So we decided to do some research and were lucky enough to stumble upon Mehndi Maniac! We contacted (somewhat short notice) Arsala and got a quick response back asking what times would work best for us and designs we were interested in. We texted back and forth both the day before and day of. The day of we drove over and upon arriving at her home, we were greeted by her friendly face and her adorable cat. We had a short "consultation" of what we were looking for again (geometric designs, floral designs, etc.) and after we were all happy and on the same page she quickly breezed through my friends geometric henna. She then began to work through my more circular/floral henna design and she did both perfectly. Which amazed me because they were two TOTALLY different designs and it was done with 100% natural henna AND freehand! Mind=blown! Before we left I (very clumsily) smeared a few of my leaves, while putting on my shoes. I was completely mortified and mostly feeling as if I destroyed a masterpiece, but she promptly fixed it and assured me that it was completely fine. Which was totally sweet and appreciated! The cost was very cheap considering the intricate designs both my friend and I wanted. We payed 20$ for the top of our hands and halfway mark towards our elbows. We both got TONS of compliments wherever we went but especially at work (which I was worried about AND it led to us getting MORE tips!!! :)). I love Mehndi Maniac! Besides beautiful work, the prices are amazing and she comes to you! I have paid 4x as much to have very simple henna designs done at tourist shops in Hawaii but am much more pleased with Arsala's one-of-a-kind work. It's legit! The henna usually lasts at least a week and I cannot say enough about the compliments I receive (especially when I've had my hand done). She's extremely talented and personable too - the nicest woman ever! You can ask for a specific type of design, like flowers, but I trust her to do amazing freehand without any direction from me at all. I'm never disappointed. I recently took a trip across the country about a month ago, and I had found this wonderful woman via Yelp. I saw the ratings and read the reviews, and everything that others boasted about turned out to be completely true! Prior to receiving my henna tattoo I did research on what exactly the process is, and I discovered that numerous places utilize man-made chemicals that could potentially be harmful to the skin. I wanted to avoid any adverse results, so the fact that she used all plant-based materials is what originally attracted me to her work. Her professionalism via phone and in-person was what solidified my decision. The sheer fact that I received a henna tattoo was exciting, but some tattoo parlors or beauty-related institutions can be cold, sterile & uninviting. I was afraid that my experience would be dampened by such an environment, but she embodied none of those qualities. She was kind, warm, friendly, and very accommodating to both my friend and I to which we were both grateful. I highly advise those that are interested to contact Arsala (sp) because while she is a wonderful artist and business woman, she is also concerned about one's comfort level and health concerns. Arsala is the most incredible artist ever! I hosted an event at my home and she came to do her work as a "party Favor" for my girlfriends. They all loved love loved her.
