I am the owner the property pictured above. We hired Keen Decorative Concrete and Kinetic Pools to…read morereplace the deck around our pool earlier this summer. I have waited more than three months for them to come back and repair the damage they did to the pool. Some of the coping stones around the pool were cracked by the expanding concrete, broken completely in half (see attached pictures). This occurred because of uncontrolled expansion in the new concrete. Keen did not tie the rebar into the wire mesh construction cloth they laid under the concrete. They laid the rebar and wire mesh directly in the sand underlying the concrete, then walked on it while they were pouring the concrete completely negating the reinforcement that the rebar and mesh were intended to provide. They did not use stools to lift the rebar and mesh up out of the sand into the concrete. They did not use the correct drain system to allow for a reasonable pitch of the concrete deck, they did not use the correct membrane between the new concrete and the existing coping edge of the pool, they did not allow enough space for expansion of the new concrete, they did not install any expansion joints in the entire pour. The new deck continues to heave and expand causing shifts up to an inch at the junction of the coping and the new concrete (see attached pictures). Because Keen did not use the proper membrane and spacing between the existing coping and the new concrete they had to grind a groove between the two and then fill that with a sealant which has already failed (see attached pictures) Additionally the finish has already deteriorated, leaving faded colors and a slippery surface. There are already cracks in the surface. I hired them because they were less expensive than the competition and they talked like they knew what they were doing. Don't make the same mistake I made. Use someone else. See Yelp and Google reviews for pictures.

This was by far the worst experience with a contractor. We hired this company to do our floors to…read moremodernize the house a bit. Since it is concrete, we thought it would be easier to maintain and last longer than any other floor. This was a job that they said would take at the most 5 days, and it turned into a two month project. To top it off they didn't even finish. We decided we no longer wanted their services after we gave them more chances than I can count, to make the job look right. When we began working with them, they said they would begin their day at our home starting at 9:00am or 9:30am, at the latest. If and when they did show up, they wouldn't arrive until 11am, break for lunch at noon and then they would call it a day at 4pm. I would take off work to meet with them in the morning, only for them not to show up. I would leave work early at 4pm to catch them before they leave and they would not be there. Some days I got lucky and was able to speak with them to see their progress. Just walking into the house, I could never tell any progress that was done. They also made promises they would NEVER fulfill. But they were real quick to ask for payment. Half the cost was required to start the project, then they required another 25% even before they polished anything at all. The main contact (owner?) was extremely rude and argumentative when we showed him our concerns on the floor. Our concrete was full of holes (deep holes) from carpet that previously been installed. They refused to fill these holes or to make them look any better. When we finally got them to fill them, they were filled with calking which was all bubbled and completely poor work. Polished concrete floors come with some flaws that add "character" and I get that, but these floors were full of holes, and felt like sandpaper. I would NEVER want to walk on these floors barefoot because it would be uncomfortable. There were areas that would probably even cut up someone's foot. With young nieces, nephews, and pets, I would never allow them to walk on these floors because it is simply a hazard. Not to mention there was a foot print that was stained into our concrete. When we brought it to their attention, he told us that it was in the concrete and he would have to go back and start all over again with grinding, polishing, staining, and waxing. I do not want a permanent footprint embedded in my floors that I am paying for. This company did an extremely poor job and I am embarrassed to even have anyone come to my home at this time. I will now have to find another company to come and fix their mistakes, which will be costing me even more money. It has been a long 2 months of stressing and losing sleep over this project, questioning if and when they are going to show up to finish my floors and how much longer it will take before I can move in. I am paying on a house that I have not been able to enjoy yet. We were extremely accommodating letting them use our air condition to make them more comfortable. We are patient people, but our patience ran dry when they made it clear that our house was not a priority. I would never wish this experience on anyone.
