Finch & Associates - Ruth Mae Finch, Esq. Intellectual Property Attorney

Finch & Associates

(1 review)

I contacted Finch & Associates about two weeks ago to inquire about receiving assistance filing a…read moretrademark application. However, instead of receiving help and guidance from Ruth Finch, I received nothing but unprofessionalism and BLATANT disrespect. When I first called, she answered her phone but didn't say anything for 3-5 minutes while she was in the car riding home with her husband. After saying "Hello?" constantly for that duration of time, she finally responded and told me to call her 30 minutes later because she was in the car on the way home from having dinner. 30 minutes later, I called again, and once she answered I told her that I would like her assistance with filing for a trademark. Instead of helping me, she kept going on and on about how good her dinner was that she just ate at a restaurant. Once she finally stopped talking about that, her energy became nasty. She finally asked me what my name was after being on the phone for 8-10 minutes, I told her my name was "BiJon" and she kept saying "What? What's your name?" She couldn't repeat my name (for some odd reason) so she asked me to spell it for her. Once I spelled it for her, she completely BUTCHERED the pronunciation of it, and then said "What kind of a name is that?" She continued to make disrespectful comments regarding my name while I just sat back until she finished because I needed her "professional" (or lack thereof) advice with the trademark application process. Once she finally moved on from disrespecting my name, I asked her how much would it be for her to help me with this process. She COULD NOT give me a fixed price at all. She just started throwing out costs and more costs, and when I asked her what the TOTAL would be, she said "aww I don't know, MAYBE I could do it for $1200, MAYBE". Her answer was the MOST UNPROFESSIONAL response I've ever heard in my life. After dealing with her DISRESPECTFUL tone, nasty RACIST undertones, and ridiculous fluctuating price range, I just hung the phone up on her because I had enough of her disrespecting me. If I could give her ZERO STARS I would, but seeing that I don't have that option, the best alternative I have is to advise those looking for help with trademarking is to SEEK IT FROM SOMEWHERE ELSE, with a more RESPECTFUL & COMPETENT professional.

I am extremely fortunate that Mr. Simmons represented me for my particular (and NOT…read morestraightforward) issue. He was very patient in explaining things to me and what I could expect. He did not sugarcoat things and was very factual about what could happen in court, NOT to scare me or provide false reassurances but to tell me what I needed to know. He was TOTALLY committed to achieving the best outcome for me which I will say right now, HE DID! I am very happy about that! He was responsive to my emails, my texts, my phone calls and most important, the advice he gave me was spot on! He communicated with me as soon as he heard from the State's Attorney or to apprise me of the SA's offer and how he intended to respond after talking to me to get agreement. Then, when we were in court, he went above and beyond, conveying my story, and what he thought was an appropriate outcome. I was floored by his eloquence and the wisdom of his word choices. He had also advised me on what Judges want to hear in such a case as mine which helped me in preparing my allocution when prompted by the Judge. It was also there in the courtroom where I witnessed Mr. Simmons in his element and tapping into his vast legal experience. I learned SO much about the law (related to my issue), courtroom behavior, legal terms, even such things as how lawyers negotiate with the State and the Judge about, well, legal stuff. If I am ever confronted by a legal problem (NOT THE SAME ONE!!!! ABSOLUTELY!!), Mr. Simmons would be the ONLY person I would trust to handle it for me. Bottom line, he knows his stuff, he's competent, and it's apparent to me that folks in the court system (Judges, Bailiffs, State prosecutors, other attorneys, even police officers) in Montgomery County know him and respect him and his opinions. His fee was extremely reasonable, especially for all the work that was required in my particular case. So, Mr. Simmons does any EXCELLENT job and if you need legal representation, go to him!
