My partner and I came here while visiting the Westfield Mall in Stratford, and while we didn't make…read morea reservation, we didn't feel welcomed or politely greeted by the man who seated us (All he asked was did we have a reservation and that was it). Another thing we noticed was our server, whose name I believe was Eddie. We felt he had a very cold demeanor towards us, and his service with us felt uncared for. One thing that stood out to us was when we asked for some tap water for our drinks, and he set it on our table in a rushed way that felt as if he slammed it or set it aggressively (probably mistakenly but impolitely from our perspective as customers). Not to mention we noticed he didn't check up on us to see if everything was good with our food/order. All in all, we understand that during rush hours it might be taking a lot out of the servers/waiters to satisfy each and every customer in the restaurant, but the food wasn't worth the service we felt we had received, and we were disappointed. Honestly, we wouldn't recommend anyone else to come here either.

So if I fancy topping up on some clothes, toiletries, or some recently discovered lovely home ware from H&M, then Westfield is my spot. Of course when visiting, whilst you may plan for it to be an in/out affair, it seldom is the case. All of the big windows with enticing items on display beckon your attention. Don't get me wrong I am not an impulsive shopper, I buy only what I need, but having a browse is something I am comfortable with. I guess it also makes it bearable because the place is not mad busy. You can move around with reasonable ease. For this particular recent trip, it was time to try our The Real Greek outside on the terrace. I have run out of options here having done Busaba Eathai and Bumpkin. The Real Greek is a simple food concept. Sharing stuff on tiered plate racks. Yep, mostly that's it. I don't mean to sound dismissive, in fact, I like the simplicity of how you select what you want and how its delivered. You have the option of choosing lots of plates to share from the cold, hot and grilled meze or they cut down the process of choosing in half by offering you the "Perfect for Sharing" options for two. We opted for this at £35. 25 with 8 meze items. All good groups are covered with your carb's, meats, fish and veg. A great selection. We opted for greek flatbread, houmous, green bean fava, prawns with feta, lamb kofte, dukkah chicken wings, falafel and saffron rice. The alternatives you could choose were just as good. On arrival we were kindly given a booth for four (there were only two of us). This is normally a no no for restaurants, but they were so friendly and accommodating. Great service. My reasoning for this table was because it was at the end of the room so I could get a better view and pics for the blog without elbowing or disturbing fellow diners. The "Perfect for Sharing" selection was curated by Tonia Buxton, the face of Greek Food in the UK, who is now apparently an ambassador for The Real Greek. I was pleasantly surprised by my experience following a less than satisfactory visit to the Covent Garden spot. I guess sometimes things need a second chance. I am delighted I was so forgiving, as this is quick, easy and tasting food.

Gets busy and there's a bit of a wait if you ordered grilled food. Prices are OK. Fair compared to the stuff upstairs but more expensive than its nearest neighbours. I ordered a mixed gyros platter with a fanta. Sent the order off, waited 10 minutes, then the guy called me over and said "I don't have mixed is chicken OK?" Not a big deal to me except for the fact that he was pointing at the plate of chicken gyros as he was asking me if it was OK. I mean... could I say no at that point? Seems a moot point to ask. If I had been warned about it beforehand, and knowing that I had to wait 10 minutes anyway, I would have ordered mix souvlaki or something. He also got my drink wrong (got a coke instead of a fanta.) Didn't give me utensils or napkins. Meh. All in all not terrible. Might come back if I'm in the mood for this kind of food but there's a lot of choice in the mall so we'll see.

I actually frequent this place quite a lot when I'm one of my shopping missions, which I feel over the next month will be quite a lot (ahh Christmas!). So, it's always good to know that I have a good go to when I'm having a stressful shopping experience and I just need an energy boost! Tonight I chose the mixed grill souvlaki (pork, chicken and lamb) with rice, pitta, Greek salad and a side of tzatziki. The rice was rather bland but that's the only negative thing I can say really. The three meats were tasty and were cooked right in front of me (fresh fresh fresh) - the lamb kebab in particular was packed full of flavour! I also love their pitta bread dipped in that creamy tzatziki. Happy and full up :)

Mains: Chicken Pastilla - This was my favorite dish of the meal, as the chicken and other ingredients were enclosed within this crispy exterior - very tasty. Lamb Kofta - This was basically like lamb sausages, which were good but nothing that special, although the sauce did add some nice flavor as well. Sides (or as they call them, salads): Aubergine - Came with 2 slices of aubergine; I liked the white sauce on top which gave it a little extra creamy flavor Cauliflower- Very standard so not much to comment on here Mushrooms - Pretty nice pairing with the lentils as well Butternut Squash - Well cooked with some parmesan shavings on top My main issue here was the value, as each combo of main + 2 sides costs 29.50 GBP, and the portion sizes were rather small (refer to my photo). In fact, they even combined 2 sides into 1 small plate because the portions were so small. The interior is very nice though, as it is an elegant yet minimalistic type of design. It wasn't too busy for lunch even on a weekend. The staff are fairly friendly and attentive. The service speed is pretty quick. Overall, the pros of Ottolenghi are that the food is pretty good and the environment is nice. However, the cons are that the portion sizes are small (so value might not be great) and the lunch menu is fairly limited. Therefore, all things considered, I am giving Ottolenghi 4 stars.

We were given menus and offered a choice water - including free tap water with ice and mint leaves, were presented a complimentary salmon amuse bouche and ordered cocktails. So far, so good. Once our delicious cocktails arrived, we ordered our starters and mains, and a bottle of wine. Unfortunately the white wine arrived warm, but it did come with an ice bucket, so it cooled down whilst we ate our starters. To our surprise, the mains (a standard burger and chips) arrived stone cold, but we let the waiter know, and he seemed genuinely apologetic and brought us fresh ones, which were hot. The food wasn't bad, but neither was it anything outstanding. The whole Parlour bar and restaurant menu has a quirky "circus" theme, with the cocktails named things like "tears of a clown" and "fairground millionaire", and the chips served in mugs or flower pots! Our burgers were served on a plastic cafeteria style lunch tray. Whilst the service was good, the prices were a little on the high side given the quality. I suppose it's the central Canary Wharf location that draws in customers looking for team lunches paid for on company credit cards.
