My bestie and I booked the yin and yang special which is a 80min massage and 60 min facial with a…read morescrub add on. The instant the massage started I was a little confused because they booked us with a male and female therapist. From my experience, scrubs are done while body and naked so I was uncomfortable with a male scrubber in the room. They reassured us that we would be covered with a towel and my friend was kind enough to go with the male therapist.
The instant the massage started I knew I was in for a ride. I waited to feel it out before asking for the masseuse to apply more pressure. When you check-in you complete a QR code questionnaire and one of the questions was what are your problem areas. (Mine was neck, trapezius/upper back) I felt like the massage I was given was either verrry Swedish or very elbowy and not relaxing. I asked for more pressure twice but I might've waited too long for the second time. I did not feel the targeting of my problem areas and they didn't even feel for any knots. After each segment was over, they did this fingertip thing where they lightly treaded over the body part with the fingertips. (I didn't enjoy that, I wanted more pressure) I also felt like the hands during the massage were not lubricated enough and I felt the tug and pull of skin when not enough lotion or oil is used.
My masseus moved on to my lower body/legs. She applied too much pressure with her elbows on my thighs where I had to let her know I did not like it. It's been 2 days post massage and my leg still hurts from the spot she scrapped her elbow on. They applied pressure in places I did not want and missed my whole problem area (upper back).
After the massage, we choose to do a moisturizing agave scrub. My friend said hers felt like only salt and not enough agave/oil. I felt her skin after the massage and it was still very rough. We also didn't quite get a full body scrub because they did not do our chest area. Not sure if that was skipped because we had a male therapist and I wasn't comfortable with that. After, we were asked to rinse with the shower in the room before our facial.
My friend called this her worst facial ever and wanted to leave but I asked for us to see it through. They cleansed our face with a foam cleanser (the facials we are used to massage your face during this time but it was just a cleanse no massage), steamed our face, put a mask on, wipe it off and used this tool with a high pitched frequency and a horizontal flat tip that they called a face scrubber. Not sure if there was supposed to be a gel or something to help it glide on but my friend asked them to stop the treatment because it was hurting her face. They also put a gauze mask on our face and probably did the skin wand therapies. Then they put a sheet mask. I did not have high expectations but this massage/facial/scrub was American prices and we were not relaxed at all. Our other friends (we were a group of 6 total) also said they did not think their massage was worth the price.
Recommendations to the business: Improve on the massage technique as a whole. Also check in on that client, ask about pressure, don't create expectations with questions like "what are your problem areas" if you're not even going to address it. Also communication is very important and narrating your care. Example: my friends stayed in their bed after the massage because it wasn't very clear that the massage was over or what to do after.
