What a cool little place to come visit, I learned quite a bit of what went down in the old days. It's wild. I really really enjoyed how interactive it was!! While it's graphic, there's no jump scares to worry about. Get the audio guide. It's great to listen to while perusing around!

Thought this museum was really cool, there's an app that you can download to get a more interactive style self guided tour, and even a few of the exhibitions you can physically interact with. Super cool, you can get a lot out of this museum, and for a reasonably fair price, and even better you book online!

First off, I'm not sure how this place can be called a museum. There are zero artifacts or relics from the medieval times. It's completely comprised of models and recreations. Had it been called the Medieval Torture learning center at an entrance fee of $10 then I would possibly recommend. Don't get me wrong, we did learn a few interesting things. The "museum" itself is VERY misleading.

Fun, but short experience to try once. Pretty small space that we ended up walking through a few times to kill time. I'm aware the ticket price includes the audio guide and ghost hunting experience, but still too expensive for what it is. Not super interactive and pretty repetitive overall. More of a photo op than a museum. Wouldn't say it was horribly gruesome, but I'm also not squeamish in the slightest. Unless there was an expansion of some sort I couldn't imagine it being worth a second visit. Gift shop was very generic - seems like a missed opportunity to incorporate local chicago artists.

Very amazing tour! Shows the punishments of the medieval times and the pain and suffering inflicted

Great time and worth the visit to fill in 60-90 minutes of time. Looking for something entertaining and different to fill in a few hours, the medieval torture museum delivered what I wanted. The graphic displays of medieval torture were both entertaining and terrifying at the same time, and that is basically what you expect and receive. My only blemish's was the price point, other than that I enjoyed the experience.

Cool, but definitely overpriced for what it is. For two people, we paid $71 for entrance. The museum itself is just about 3-4 of rooms on a single floor; the price of admission comes with an audio guide. We walked through the entire thing in about 30 mins, which is the perfect amount of time for what this is, but admission shouldn't have cost more than $20 pp.

Very cool I had a lot of fun. Lots of weird stuff to look at. For the price it isn't bad plus you can touch anything you want also

If you're looking for something fun to do, look no further! I went and absolutely loved it! I felt like I learned so much...and it's the largest torture museum ever! Lots of fun places to take pics, too! Highly recommend!

The atmosphere & detail of the props & information on the plaques was worth every penny. Highly recommend to learn more about this dark side of human history. Plus the bathrooms were super clean!

The demonstrations are very graphic and the audio guide is very detailed and helpful. Staff is also very nice!

What is the bag and food/drink policy for the medieval torture museum?

No drinks allowed. No lockers available. Can take a bag though.

Is this ok for a 12 year old that is not sensitive to gore and loves horror movies?

It's interesting and a great learning experience. We did it for our kids when they were 12.

How long is the audio tour?

It's as long or short as you want it to be!! There are little information signs next to each exhibit, but the audio tour gives you even more info on each piece. Each exhibit has a number, you just hit play on the corresponding number on the audio…

I was worried my toddler might be a little bit too young, but MSI does a great job of having spaces for all ages. We spent a lot of time downstairs looking at the fairy castles, baby chicks, in the mirror maze, and the idea factory! The idea factory was definitely a little outdated (my husband said nothing has changed since he came here as a kid) but even still, it was super cool and super perfect for toddlers. It's also great because this area is suuuper interactive (and especially aimed for smaller kiddos). The other space we spent a lot of time was the space exhibit. Eventually we reconvened in the main area and consulted the visitor guide to ensure we maximized our time here, but it was still impossible to see everything. I then went on a MISSION to find American Gothic, which ended up being in an entirely different wing -- eventually I found it though. Paradise Lost was another highlight of course, as well as the Chicago Stock Exchange room recreation. We wrapped things up in the modern wing, and I was hyped to see several pieces from Andy Warhol, plus a Dali. If we didn't have a flight that night, we easily could've spent 2-3 more hours here.

I wandered through the other galleries and continued to spot my favorite paintings from other art periods. I even found a mummy! The museum layout was a little confusing, but the galleries were well-labeled, and the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable in helping me find my way.
