Needless to say, it is probably the safest place to be if you don't want to see and pollies! As much as I am mildly into politics and have furture aspirations of world domination, even I find this place boring! You can sit in on Question Time, in either the House of Representatives of the Legislative Council, but most of the time they are just avoiding or not answering the questions posed, or they have actually asked their fellow party members to ask specific questions because they want to show boat! There was a roped off room that had some old books, but the true treasure is the Mortlock Wing, which we found after wandering a bit more. It was like stepping into the world of Harry Potter is the best way I can describe it. The ground floor housed a lot of ephemeria, about past shows, movies, and festivals. Upstairs were where the thousands of old books were. Many people were reading quietly at the different tables, but there were a few tourists (hi, it's me) snapping pictures as unobtrusively as possible. As we left the Mortlock wing and kept going, we got to a jarringly modern section of the library, almost museum-like. The current exhibit showcased menus collected from all the way in the 1800s. Absolutely fascinating to read what was in style back then, and how much it cost. This is a great free stop for about an hour of your time, or even the whole day if you want to take advantage of the quiet and serenity for some reading or work. I will say this is not as large as State Library of Victoria in Melbourne, which housed a lot more exhibits and has an impressive dome, but I actually enjoyed this more.

Anyway, you don't need to because, well, ships really don't come this far down the Port River anymore, and also, it is in the middle of Port Adelaide, which means that there are plenty of places where you can live that doesn't involve the inside of an incredibly small structure. However, it seems to be one of those famous things in this town, if all the advertising material is anything to go by.

Port Adelaide is one of those regions of South Australia that has a lot of history behind it. The…read morerather well known lighthouse is a big part of that history. The lighthouse is located right next to the Fisherman's Wharf Markets and when you've been through the markets it's worth paying the tiny fee of $1 (50c for kids) to climb up and have a look out over the city. Personally, when I climbed up for the first time the main thing I noticed was how flat Adelaide really is, especially when compared to cities like Melbourne where a lot of walking up and down streets is required. It's not something you'll want to be doing every week, as obviously it's the same view every time. For the price though, you may as well go along and experience a piece of South Australian history.

We were shown around the city and given lots of fascinating background information. We saw and heard about Adelaide history and passed by several places of interest. We stopped in to see the newly renovated Adelaide Oval then made our way up into the Adelaide Hills. The peak of Mt Lofty has a glorious view and we enjoyed that with a short stop. We then went on to Hahndorf. We had free time here to explore the main street, where there are shops, cafes and other things of German culture to investigate. Our schedule was managed very carefully and we left Hahndorf in good time to get back to the city as planned. Overall, this tour and our guide was excellent. I would recommend this tour and would definitely choose them for another tour in the future. Well done.

It has been ages since I've actually been into the church, despite actually living in Adelaide…read more Actually, I really do appreciate how some of these churches leave the doors open to allow people to wander in and walk around, and this church is certainly no exception (though there is some volunteer sitting there ready to help people out, and to answer any questions). I wouldn't necessarily say that it is impressive, not compared to some churches that I've visited, but for a cathedral in Australia, it still isn't all that bad.

However, since I study here, I do have something positive to say about the vibe inside those red brick walls. It's a mixture of multicultural and local, young and old and gives you the feeling that - no matter who you are or where you're from - you're welcome. I find that a lot of university buildings are scary when you first walk in, but this one isn't. You immediately feel comfortable in your surrounds. Although it may strike you as a maze at the start, it is actually quite easy to find your way around and staff are generally very friendly and helpful. It may not look pretty, but after all you're not going to frequent this place because of its looks.
