I've had chronic lower back pain, have the worst posture ever and have been working long nights for awhile now and it's been building up and resulting in a ton of stress and tension, stiffness and overall fatigue. I've had massages before and nothing really worked at loosening up the tension in my back for longer than a day. Linda doesn't provide typical massages--she genuinely figures out your personal aches and pains and focuses her work in your problem areas. She is exceptional at diagnosing exactly where my problem areas were and even better at explaining what's going on in your body which made the experience a lot better than just your typical massage. But at some point you have to man up and do the adult thing. Sort your receipts, know what you can and can't deduct, look at your HECS. I can already see your eyes rolling into the back of your head with sheer boredom. Still with me? I'd been an accountant hussy until I found Nick Gregory. He's turned me into a one-accountant woman and I couldn't be happier. Last year's tax was horrendous but Nick kept my expectations in check and in fact, exceeded them when he reduced what I thought I had to pay by quite a few zeros. I also like that as someone who doesn't take numbers as my first preference (hello straight A English Student here!) he never makes me feel less than for not understanding. In fact, he never had to - all his explanations were conveyed on a level I understood. And for me, the fact that I can email Nick all of my return without having to make an appointment or allocate hours to sit in their offices going through it all means tax time is far less arduous. Bonus! Now...to transform this year's return from Bernard-style to appropriate Adult-Lani style.

Unfortunately, she was not the recruitment agent I wanted to be assigned to (Government); she specialized in the Finance sector. Since this does not clash entirely with my work history, I was open to hearing about roles. She walked me through what I wanted in my role and confirmed that there were no appropriate roles at present, but she would keep me posted. I asked and was seen to by another recruitment agent specializing in Government positions. She gave me her card and I left. I didn't hear from either recruitment agent for a few months, then emailed them to state that I was still looking for work, if they were interested. Later that day (moving into night-time) the Government recruitment agent called me about a position starting the next day (late morning). I said it sounded good; she said she would need to speak to the company in the morning about whether I would be allowed to slip into the following day's training, and would call me first thing in the morning. To me this sounded doubtful and last-minute, and when I received a call from her the next day - around midday - she was extremely angry with me. She said she'd called at around 7am, but I had no missed call from that time. I felt that she was furious, and displayed anger above and beyond the usually accepted business-client relationship. She also insinuated that she would tell the other recruitment agents that I was still "looking for roles", but said it in a sarcastic tone meant to insinuate she sure wouldn't be. Not exactly the biggest self-esteem booster. The review escapes a one-star rating because of relativity: I've actually visited worse recruitment agents than this one.

I thought the interview went pretty well, and my recruitment agent confirmed I was a prime candidate and he would call in a couple of days; however a week lapsed and I emailed him. There was no reply, and the next day I called the agency. The receptionist confirmed he was not at his desk. After 4-5 days I called again and finally got a hold of my recruitment agent; he apologized for the delay but said he hadn't heard back from the company yet. He said he'd call them and call me straight back. And then he didn't. All in all, I found this to be extremely disappointing. If I was perhaps not so eager for this particular position, the disappointment may have been less severe. However, I don't like having to chase after a recruitment agent. Maybe he confused me with a clingy ex-girlfriend who was stalking him, or something.

I attended the conference Experimental Screen Works organised by Disruptor Web. It was well…read moreorganised and provided a good opportunity to learn about current artistic and design works in the developing areas of technology and new media. It was also a relaxed and friendly environment in which to meet researchers and artists in the field. The conference covered three days with differing themes according to the presenter's respective fields of research, from installation-type artworks, web-based and more technologically-oriented design projects, as well as art performances and film screenings in the evening. Attendees were also given the option of providing articles of their presentations for book publication, fully organised by Catherine Gomersall and Gerald Keaney, which is currently in development. I'm very much looking forward to seeing the results of this project. It was a great experience, and I hope there will be the opportunity to attend future conferences by Disruptor Web.
