Walk down this alley way and you'll find a couple of hairdressers, an excellent ethiopian restaurant and a very cute German cafe called Georgie Girl's. Mother and daughter team Michele and Katja Kozsak opened up shop in June 2011. The name "Georgie Girl's" comes from Michele's mother Georgina. Oh! The joys of supporting family owned and run businesses continues.
It's not only the great atmosphere that makes Georgie Girl's such a hit with locals (and those who travel from afar especially to check it out). It's a humble space with seating for only a few people. The service is homely and oozes a kind of country charisma about it (perhaps its that the girls often wear old school aprons). The breakfast eats are cheap, and by cheap I mean, there's nothing over $8 here. The food is German inspired. The servings are usually large and the meals are quite hearty. I would have to say that Michele's meanest dish is quiche, which she cooks a new one fresh each day. The apple strudel is also a hit. Even if you don't like desserts, just try this one. Your tastebuds will thank you.
If you're looking to have some catering done for an event, you'd do well to enquire at Georgie Girl's and see what they can do up for you.
They are a brunch bar, and so they're only open until 1.30pm on weekdays. They will be open on Saturdays from January 28th onward. Michele and Katja are very close with their regulars, and it's to observe that along with building Georgie Girl's, Michele has built a tight family orientated community around her. I love this place. It's a feel good gem in the suburban south west.
