I have been recommended to Harley Street Health Centre by one of my colleagues. So I booked an appointment with Dr Abood. The consult lasted an hour, and included a chat about my symptoms, when they occur, ear & nose check, blood pressure and also had blood taken. Personally, even though I am in my mid 30's,I am really scarred of the needle, but the nurse was amazing. She distracted me by keeping my mind busy chatting, while she was drawing blood. Offered me water & advised to wait for couple of minutes before I leave. The whole experience was 5*. No rushing or looking at you like you are crazy because your palms & sole is itching at night, weirdly enough. So the next day I got my results. It was not as bad as I thought. Iron & Vitamin D deficiency. Something that can be fixed easily. So glad I went to the clinic, as my nose bleeds and itchyness have been haunting me for years. I am now taking my supplements & feeling much better. Will have another blood test done probably in 3-4 months.

We were lucky enough to get back to back appointments within 24 hours, however I would recommend blocking an appointment as soon as possible to get a timing convenient for you. The clinic is on the 5th floor of the building. (There is a lift) The reception area also sells some travel necessities like bug repellant, water purifying mechanisms etc. (Essential for countries with vaccination requirements) We are already kitted out, so I'm not sure about pricing vis-a-vis Boots etc. The nurse who saw us was friendly, polite and efficient. Appointments were at 15 minute intervals, but since we were a couple she took us in together and we were done in 20 minutes. Since we had already filled in the forms online, she just quickly ran through the vaccination requirements and recommended preventive medicines for the countries we were traveling to. Before giving us our shots. Quite an efficient system. Expensive (when compared to other countries we have for our shots at) but I guess that's the going rate in the UK.

Not feeling well before a trip I booked an appointment at Blossoms on Garlick Hill. I booked the…read moreappointment for a Thursday morning and was told of the 1 day cancelation policy. By Wednesday morning I felt better and when the 1 day reminder for the appointment came up on my outlook, I looked up the number for the clinic, called to cancel and spoke to a person at the clinic. By this time it was 23 hours and 55 minutes before my appointment. I was told that since it was more than 24 hours I would be charged the cancellation fee. I asked to speak to a manager and she said that they have a business to run and that was the policy. I explained that I had to find the number and go through the telephone prompts and, by that time, I was a few minutes after the 24 hour period before my appointment was supposed to start. I also reminded her that 24 hours was never defined (i.e. was it 24 hours before the last check in time for my appointment or 24 hours before my appointment was supposed to be completed or 24 hours before my appointment was supposed to start) and that people in the City are busy and to get in an argument over a few minutes is a good way to alienate customers. I told her that I was going to challenge the charge with my credit card company and she repeated that they have a business to run and I would be charged. Since we have a corporate relationship with Blossoms I also contacted our HR team and they weren't surprised I was having issues with them. I called my credit card company to let them know of the situation and also wrote an email to the head office and was offered a credit for another appointment. I declined since I was hoping not to be sick in the immediate future and asked to be refunded. I thought that was the end of it but they sent me a cancellation email but then still charged me. This surprised me even more because I was expected to pay but now didn't have an appointment to attend if i wasn't feeling well the next day. I was given various excuses for why I was going to be charged: they had a business to run, they would not be able to re-use the time for other patients, and inside of 24 hours the computer would automatically make a charge. The bottom line is that if you cancelled 6 hours before your time slot and they rebooked your appointment I am willing to bet a lot of money that you would still be charged the cancellation fee. Also, they will use any excuse (like the computer automatically charging without any ability to stop it as if it was Judgement Day in Terminator 2 and the computers had taken over) to get around the fact that they are a greedy company who look to catch out their customers. Bottom line is that they charge a premium to very busy people, for what I assume is convenience, but will use any excuse to take your money away from you if you fall in breach of their arbitrary policy. Blossoms should be avoided and it is very much run like an American health clinic (not surprisingly it is owned by HCA: Hospital Corporation of America). They act more like a credit card company than your doctor and, in reality, are another Vampire Squid in the City.

With a new baby (and frankly, a lack of NHS knowledge), I set out to see if this would work. I researched the doctors at the City practice on New Broad Street, selected one that seemed to focus on pediatrics, and made appointments for both him and myself for 6 weeks post-birth to make sure things were running smoothly. First, this office is very nice. Well appointed, clean and sharp. The receptionists are smartly dressed and efficient. This office runs on 15 minute appointment slots and is run like a machine. You get in, you get what you need, you get out. What, unfortunately, you do NOT get is a lot of personalized care and attention to your specific needs. A general overview? Yes. An rx for meds? Yes. A brief consult? Yes. But if you want a professional who is really going to get to know you, care about your health (and your child's health) -- this is definitely not the place. I went to several appointments for various things that left much to be desired. In one instance the doctor said I needed a butterfly bandage for a wound. She looked for one but could not find one (what?) and then advised me to buy one at Boots and place it on myself. Given the location of this wound (c-section) -- not really possible, this is why I came to the doctor in the first place! If I wanted to be told to go buy my own supplies down the street and administer myself I could just go to NHS. If I'm paying 70 quid for a 15 minute appointment, you better have a damn bandage for godssakes. In another instance, with my baby, he needed a very basic silver nitrate application to address an umbilical hematoma. They told me that unfortunately, as they don't see a lot of infants, they don't stock silver nitrate sticks (they are SOOOO tiny, stock one!) and that I'd need to visit my GP. Well, that's the funny part. They bill themselves as being your GP. Upon making an appointment I received no less than 4 emails about their "MY GP" program where you pay up front and then have access at a lower cost. But I left wondering, what ELSE wouldn't they really be able to provide? *Being 2 weeks post-birth with a newborn baby in the City, I wanted them to just take care of it. I did not want to be bounced back into another system. I ended up taking him to my pediatrician in the States and it was solved within minutes. So in short, I figured it out. This is an expedient way to be seen if you have something urgent and your GP can't see you quickly enough (need antibiotics, etc), or if you need a referral to a specialist. My experience with one of the doctors was subpar at best. I'm sure it varies based on the consultant. If you need a real care provider, this is not the place. Know what you need, if its 15 minutes and a quick prescription and that's worth £70, then this will work.
