When I was finally seen, the evaluation required a more involved work up than I had anticipated. I expressed my preference to follow up with my primary care physician, who has access to my prior history and comprehensive records. However, the urgent care physician was persistently insistent that I proceed with testing on-site, which became uncomfortable. I ultimately chose to leave after a prolonged wait and an interaction that I found to be unprofessional.

Dr. David Alligood (Owner) Rude and Dismissive, Disappointed Longtime Patients…read more Before I begin, know that my husband, daughter, and I have been visiting Express Family Care-Bonsack for our non-PCP medical needs since it opened many years ago. The majority of our visits were handled well, all of the nurses were pleasant, and most of the providers were kind/compassionate. Unfortunately, our experiences at this location have gone downhill over the last year (primarily increased wait times). Today (8/27/26) was our last visit as long as Dr. David Alligood owns the practice. My husband cut his leg on Monday evening. He has a history of cellulitis (bacterial infection in the deep layers of the skin). Any time the skin is broken, there's a chance of an infection. He knows he needs antibiotics. Today, he experienced an unusually quick onset of symptoms (pain/redness at the site, fever, uncontrollable chills, body aches, headache, etc.). As soon as he realized what was happening, he went to this urgent care. He was there when they opened at 8:00 AM and wasn't called back until about 9:30 AM. At this point, my husband's fever was 102.4. We explained his history to Dr. Alligood and said this is almost certainly cellulitis. He seemed skeptical that it was an infection. He started with swabs to test for flu, COVID, and strep. We were told the tests took 15 minutes. About 45 minutes after the swabs were taken, I opened the door to check on the progress. Dr. Alligood was there and said he'd be in to talk to us in a couple minutes. Meanwhile, my husband was laying down in a hoodie, covered with a blanket, shivering uncomfortably and already losing his patience. When Dr. Alligood came in the room, he was very unhurried and acting as if there was no urgency. He shared that the tests were negative and started slowly going over the physical appearance of my husband's leg and describing how it's not similar to other cellulitis flares he's seen in his many decades of practice. I could tell he wasn't going to prescribe antibiotics (which was the whole reason my husband came), so in a pause in the conversation, I tried to say "Let's cut to the chase..." (neither my husband nor I had the patience to be preached at any longer). Keep in mind that we were not rude or unprofessional at all up to this point. Yes, I was just a little blunt but not rude. Once I said that, Dr. Alligood cut me off and proceeded to tell me that we would do things as he dictated because he was the medical provider, etc. I have never had someone be so blatantly dismissive and act so sanctimonious to my face. My husband and I were both livid. We waited for him to finish his speech, ending with him recommending we go to the ER. If he had allowed me to finish, I was going to say, "It sounds like the next step is the ER." After all this, my husband left without the discharge papers. I said I would stay and wait, but again, there was no sense of urgency or compassion from Dr. Alligood. I ended up going to his station and letting him know that he could save the paper. I also said that due to his actions today and the way he spoke to us, he was losing my family as patients. It was not because he would not write a prescription for antibiotics or the fact that he recommended that we go to the ER. It came down to how he chose to speak to us. We will not knowingly support a condescending, egotistical, practitioner. PS - He did indeed have an infection. We went to the ER afterwards and he was later admitted for IV antibiotics.

The past 2 years have been extremely difficult to navigate through, and with having a huge and heartbreaking loss this year, I relied on the care of my team of providers, including Ruth. Due to ongoing issues with other variables regarding my health, an appointment was missed and the office decided to discharge me as a patient. After contacting and providing an explanation and requesting a rectification, Ruth Peevey and her office have decided to treat me with coldness and have turned their back on someone in need. I would highly not recommend visiting this doctor or any of its affiliates because it's clear that the care and relationships are fictitious and deceiving. I've never felt such disappointment and disregarded with any other provider until Ruth Peevey and her office.

She appeared to be in a hurry as evidenced by her speeding through her typical questions without addressing that I had recently been seen in urgent care. It seemed like she felt rushed, and maybe that's the fault of the facility. I tried to express that I was concerned about a chronic issue that seemed to be getting worse. That I had to quit my job as a board certified music therapist because my hands become stiff when playing the guitar. Ankles when walking or standing, and now my hips were starting to be in so much pain it was debilitating. I was throwing up and pooping myself on the job. I expressed a family history or autoimmune disease. She literally mocked me.. and said I don't treat pain. I didn't want her to treat pain, I wanted to know why I'm 29 years old and deteriorating. I came to her seeking guidance, help, support, and I was met with no patient advocacy. She also loudly talked about me in the hallways. I called her back in, and suggested that she didn't read my chart before our visit because she didn't see my TSH report, and was very unprepared. I was met with opposition. She offered a referral mental health support when I became frustrated with her behavior which I found to be abusive, gaslighting behavior. She also failed to rerun the lab in question.. she just ran a CMP and CBC if I remember correctly. I reported her to the licensing board, but nothing was done. She is the reason I am terrified of doctors. She is the reason I was afraid to go to the doctor for AWHILE. I still cry about the way she treated me. I found courage to go to the ER when I was having chest pain.. on 4/19/2021 and was met with equal opposition. Luckily, after the day Royall made me feel invisible...I became angry and a FIGHTER! I became MY OWN ADVOCATE!! I fought the ER PA about my heart, and it was a great thing I did because an heart condition was uncovered. I was RIGHT, and needed cardiac care. I still am terrified of doctors.. but a recent spout with pancreatitis landed me back in the ED... where again I was dismissed ... but thanks to Royall.. I no longer take crap off medical professionals... I adamantly requested abdominal CT with contrast that uncovered that my hip that I tried to talk to Royall about has a sclerotic lesion. Needs medical attention right away. I am finally getting the help I so deserve, and found a PCP provider that believes me, listens to me, and includes my opinions in the plans. She believed me that I may have something autoimmune going on even with negative blood markers. She's dedicated to deeply searching for the cause of my chronic illness and pain. If it was NOT for the terrible care I received from Sabrina Royall I wouldn't have found my PCP, started a holistic healing business, becoming proficient on patient advocacy, or be getting the help I need. It's a shame she assumed I was a "non-compliant" patient who was "drug seeking". I wanted ANSWERS. I was looking for the support of a medical expert and with Sabrina Royall I did not receive it. It's a shame. I hear she's well liked. Maybe I caught her on a bad day for BOTH OF US!! I'm excited to meet my orthopedic doctor this month. No thanks to New Horizon Healthcare, and super nervous about this biopsy. I'm praying it's is a typical benign bone island, and I'm hope we find out why I can barely ambulate without pain. I hope that this FNP will learn not to judge people because they are young or even black ... when they tell her something is WRONG!! If you go to this facility for PCP care, please be sure to advocate for yourself with this provider.
