If you make an "appointment" online there's no guarantee you will be seen at that time. The only guarantee is that you will be seen sometime before they close. I waited 90 minutes after my time slot only to see someone who asked for my entire medical history before their PA would see me some time later. They could not tell me how when that would be. Just sometime before they close. This Med Express facility is now operated by Bon Secours, and apparently they do not have patient records from Med Express, Sentara or UVA. By contrast, Sentara's Urgent Care on High St was able to see me immediately, had access to all of my medical records and the care was excellent. read more

I did noticed that nurse taking the information was rolling her eyes to her coworker and mocking me for talking to much! After over 41 years of working in the medical field, I understand the feeling! It's funny how they don't realized that some patients know what they were doing! We got Dr Patel and she was beyond amazing ! She listened and when her opinion was questioned she did not get offended ! I thought everyone did a good job even the person mocking me! I was very appreciative not to st in an emergency room! I had an "appointment" for 5 pm. When I arrived, I was told they were running an hour behind, since there was only one provider. The waiting room was 59º. It was 28º outside. An hour and 45 minutes passed, by which time I was cold to the bone and furious. Had the triage nurse not been so incredibly kind & charming, I'm sure I would have had some very angry words to share when I was finally called back. "Sometimes the heat works.", she said. She was wearing thermals and a fleece jacket. Clearly, it works so seldom that she dresses for the cold. The care I finally received was very good. The clinical staff is very kind. Staff is instructed not to use the word "appointment", but to call them "time slots". (Though the website says, "Schedule an Appointment". The staff stays until everyone with an "appointment" is seen. Walk-ins are turned away. So patients with an appointment who are sick or injured routinely sit in a frigid room for a very long time, and staff is expected to work for hours after the clinic is closed. The fact that an appointment means nothing more than that you will be seen that day rather than being turned away is absurd. Clearly, this is a corporate issue, not a location issue. It's shameful. I asked if they could cancel my appointment as I did not want to wait any longer, and they told me that they would cancel my appointment. They said they would not charge me as I was never seen. I was never seen by a doctor, and they charged my insurance and charged me $128 for a new office visit level 3 visit. There was no even a note written, I never even saw a doctor. I've paid $50 copay already, otherwise I'd have left. there are supposedly 2 physicians here today and a couple of nurses. The waiting room is not busy, but it seems like the staff are walking around but additional patients are not entering. There's no management to the operations here. Terrible experience. I was 4th in the door at opening. After waiting 4 hours, they were unable to do a blood draw for a lab test. While the staff is very kind, it seems they are not prepared for every service they offer. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any other urgent care offices locally that will do labs. I ended up with a bill and absolutely no results. Just two VERY bruised arms. It took 3.5 hours to get a "15 minute COVID rapid test". THREE AND ONE HALF HOURS!!! I was the 3rd person in line. I could have driven 1.5 hours to Fairfax and gotten a rapid + lab test and driven back to Charlottesville and I still would have saved 15 minutes. They wanted me to wait longer. I left instead. Absolutely horrible. Please ask your employer to send you to labcorp if you need a lab draw or have a drug screen. They can easily see 20 people in an hour. This place has called back 2 people in one hour. I'm a nurse and this isn't a lack a staff issue. This is a lack of trained staff and poor time management. Cross train your receptionists who are literally just sitting there to assist with what they can that doesn't require a medical license...like collect urine drug screens. Needed to be seen for meds. The staff were friendly and helpful. 7 people ahead of me, the screened for difficulty breathing, if yes, they did a O2 meter. Relative to other ED & urgent cares i felt the wait was minimal. They have lots of exam rooms, staff who are talented and multi-taskers make this an efficiently run UC. I worked for a hospital and my primary doc is also an urgent care in another city, I've waited 4x longer in those settings. I thought the care and time i received was very good. They have all that was needed for my assessments, xray, EKG, breathing treatments. Only thing i didn't clearly get one of the meds i requested but that was extra. The waiting room is large, so sickies weren't coughing on you. It wasnt that busy so it was comfortable. The doc or PA cant remember which, was thorough, explained things well and i didn't feel rushed. They give you your prescriptions to hand carry to a pharmacy. Went to a Wegmans which had a "special" if you never filled at that soecific store, each Rx up to 5, they give you $10 to use anywhere in the store, how awesome. Anyway i would recommend this location. The only thing they said i would have to go to an ED like Martha Jefferson Sentara if i got worse and needed IV antibiotics, so lets pray i don't want to do that review if i dont need to! read more

I was attacked by a dog yesterday. MedExpress on Pantops in Charlottesville was wonderful when I went there for my injuries last night. Everyone was very kind and thoughtful. Dr. Muthusubramanian was so kind and has a great, compassionate bedside manner. I will definitely go here if I need emergency care in the future. read more

While in the restroom the person taking the sample stole money and other items from my handbag. Employers using their services should cancel their contracts. They are thieves and the person taking the sample gave zero instructions and left the room while the sample was being collected. What was in my bag was not mine, it belonged to a co-worker. The worst urgent care ever. We use them for work. You call, they don't answer the phone, they just hang up on you, or put you on hold and not even say a word to you. Don't even think about calling on a Monday morning, they are too busy to answer phones, and don't give a crap about their customers. If they would just follow their own instructions on the medical forms, businesses wouldn't have to call and bother them for the information needed, but they can't even do that. Pros: The entire staff from the admin, to the nurse, to the NP were all EXTREMELY kind, pleasant, and knowledgeable. Cons: I arrived at 0740 and was second in the parking lot for a covid-19 test. I called right at 0800 and was on hold for over 20 minutes before someone came out to say the phones weren't working and to call back, losing my place. I was told on the phone that because of that, they would try and bump me up in line (I was in parking spot#2 so easy to confirm my claim). This did not happen. I watched approximately 12-15 cars come and leave before me, and ended up sitting there for another 4 hours. This would have been ok if I had been told it was a 4-hour wait, however I arrived early specifically to avoid that after speaking to someone the previous day about the best time to come. Signed in...waited 20 minutes. Finally I had to leave because I would definitely have to wait at least another 20 minutes or so with the doctor so...roughly an hour "all in" at this point. I went to get my ID and the receptionist hadn't even put me on the list to see the doctor yet!! I am not from the area and do not have a PCP locally so I decided to go to Med Express for a minor complaint I didn't want to get worse. Walked in and noticed the waiting room was rather empty.. Great! No long wait for me!! Everyone at registration was courteous and swift. But then came triage. There were two women in the small room: one doing vitals and one documenting my medical info: surgeries, allergies.. You know, the basics. They were very curt and short with their speech and to make matters worse, they both spoke at the same time so I had to ask them to repeat themselves more than I would've liked. After the BP cuff was snatched off my arm (Velcro is not THAT strong), I should've left but since I'd already paid..... Once the Dr. came, I explained my situation and instead of getting what I assumed would be a standard procedure, I was given two RX's to treat two possible issues. Um... No need for a culture or lab work doc? The response was pretty much Nope.. Take those and if it doesn't get better, we'll go from there.. After speaking to the office manager and expressing my concerns especially about taking meds I may not need, the Dr came back, swabbed, and I as on my way. I'd rather wait a day or so for lab work then take something I don't need! Again, there wasn't anyone in the waiting room when I came (or when I left) so why bypass what my regular Dr would've done as protocol?? Yea, I know the Med Express doc is not my regular one but still, some things are just a standard precaution for specific symptoms... UPDATE: 5/29/14- Results came back negative. I would've been quite upset if I'd started taking those antibiotics for something I didn't even have!!!! Be aware.. Go with your gut.. Fast service doesn't mean it's the RIGHT service.. read more

I wouldn't recommend this Med Express to my enemy - while I've been to a few walk in clinics, this is by far the worst experience I've had. While the front desk staff were unsympathetic and utterly unconcerned with expediting the check in process, it's the "doctor" that was the most worrisome. I had severe pain in my ear, while he initially and confidently diagnosed me with swimmers ear, he swiftly changed his diagnoses to TMJ within minutes. Not only was I not confident in his methodology - without warning or explanation he stuck his finger into my ear causing excruciating pain that left me crying. Bedside manners are not a priority at this "urgent" care clinic. Turned out the diagnoses I was finally given was wrong... I had swimmers ear the whole time and putting antibiotics on it would have fixed the problem. Instead, I was prescribed narcotics and sent a bill. If you can wait to see a real doctor... do it. Or drive to Richmond or Fredericksburg to visit a CVS minute clinic. read more

I had a similar experience to many others. I came in to get treatment for a rash that was flaring up, saw the doctor for not more than 3 minutes, left with a prescription that my friend in med school had said I would need (meaning, not a very difficult diagnosis), and was hit for a bill of $130 a few weeks later. The woman at the reception desk had assured me (insisted even) that people almost never pay more than the co-pay so I should be fine, etc. I asked about the final charge multiple times. She never once mentioned that the standard bill is $220 and that it might be negotiated down to the $100+ range, so I could be on the hook for that. No mention of that whatsoever even after I asked multiple times. I knew this kind of situation happens all the time so I thought I was being cautious asking so many times about what I might have to pay in the end, but they just told me everything I wanted to hear to go forward with the check up. Of course, this is how they operate, but it feels so dirty to me, that no one can even be honest with you about how much this MIGHT cost you or how you can find out, until after you've done it. Then all the transparency comes out and they basically say it's all your fault for not knowing. It's hard to know if no one there will tell you. If you can do it, go elsewhere. read more

Horrible (the one off 29/Seminole court). First off, I had to teach my nurse what MRSA is when I told her about my history of it. She initially wrote down "mersa" on my patient information form, & since that is obviously not the acronym, I questioned her and she had no idea what MRSA even is other than an infection.. I couldn't believe it. Then when I told her that I have an allergic reaction to dexamethasone, which results in seizures, she completely omitted that info from my form- oh no worries, that's not important at all.. But she included my rash to sulfas & amoxicillin! What good times. On another occasion I called in because I had misplaced the rest of my antibiotics (about 4 pills) & was requesting a refill in order to complete my full treatment course. Whoever answered the phone replied with, "YOU DON'T GOT YA PRESCRIPTION?!" Well, obviously not since im requesting more- so she put me on hold, then returned to get some information and started questioning me, "So you just randomly realized that you forgot to fill your prescription?" I told her that's not what I had said & she started to argue with me, insisiting that that's what I said! Eventually, she gave up with her attitude & said the MD would call me back soon. Never heard back & was left without medication, ruining my treatment course- had to start all over. On another occasion, I was in my patient room in the back, with the door closed, waiting for my doctor to come back into the room. I could hear her discussing/joking about another patient's yeast infection very loudly out in the main room, which echoes- REALLY? I was one of two patients, so it was obvious who they were discussing- ever heard of HIPPA? Or just common sense? If I was that patient I would've been so embarrassed! What happened to professionalism? It seriously doesn't exist at Medexpress. I'm never going back- I'd rather drive for hours to find a different doc in a box. read more

I have been going to this urgent care facilitie for a few years now, and have had nothing but positive experiences with them. The staff are all professional and efficient. The doctors are well trained, up to date on the latest medicine. I went to them last week for a bronchial infection, and am now on an effective regiment of antibiotics, and am finally starting to feel better! Brought my daughter in for a hand injury, and found the check-in process quick, the staff members friendly and competent, and the facility clean. The doctor assessed her injury, took x-rays (they have them on site), and referred her to a specialist, whom they sent the referral to electronically. All in all, I needed someone to evaluate an injury, and they did. Being new to C'ville I did not have a doctor yet, and this facility was a great stand-in. I came for a drug test and it took over 2 hours before even being called back despite there being only 5-6 people ahead of me, all there for drug tests as well. We came to this location by recommendation of Fork Union Military Academy for a physical (on a Sunday) and we waiting over 2 hours and watched several people before and after gets seen until after I inquired as the reason for the delay, they gave some sad excuses, I asked to speak to a Mgr or the Dr., then they told me to come to the back and wait 20 more minutes until I asked how long I had to wait and they (nurses and front desk staff) said the Dr had other patients and I needed to wait (so I prayed for some patience) the Dr came in the room and settled everything in 2 mins and was extremely polite, understanding and assured me we would be out the door in 10-15 mins and we were. FYI: front staff....if there is an issue let the waiting patient know what's going on. read more
