I went to this barber shop today. I'd never been there before, but it gets great reviews and was close to my house. It has a reputation as being an old-style barbershop. Right out of Andy Griffin, said one reviewer. Let me tell you--this isn't Mayberry. It's a horrible place, and I will never go back. At $20 a haircut, it's considerably more than a Super Cuts or a similar franchise establishment. They don't wash your hair, they don't give you a mirror to see the back, and they give you a clipper cut regardless of your preference. They're not worth the extra bucks. The 80-year man (Dale?) who cut my hair seemed a not too annoying good old boy until Fox News came on. Then I was treated to a full 5 minutes of utter right-wing claptrap, homophobia, and Trumpian self-deception. The old boy may have been cutting hair for 47 years, but he hasn't been reading books or mainstream newspapers. His ignorance was on full display. read more

This is a barber shop. It is not a salon, it's not a fru-fru place, it's one of those places you tried to avoid having your Dad drag you when it was time to touch up the crew-cut when you were a kid (yes, I'm old.) Strangely, in this day and age, I find it comforting. I go at random times and I've tended to wander through the staff - whoever is available, and they all have produced results my wife approved. If you like barbers and not stylists, you're home. One word of warning - cash only! I didn't know this the first time, so I had to make a quick trip across to 7-11 and the ATM. If you have a $20 in your pocket, that should be fine for guys. This is also the one place in Dallas I've had a shave - which was an interesting experience, one I'm glad I tried once. My long-time barber, Travis, recently set up shop at Medallion Barbers. Not only is Travis is a fantastic barber but he's a blast to talk to, as well. I take my two boys to Travis and even got my dad to start using him. I have lived in Frisco for several years and still make the drive to east Dallas for a proper haircut from Travis. Medallion Barbers is a perfectly fine barber shop. Definitely "old-school cool". Dale is the owner and a sweet old man. The shop is well kept and has a nice, big TV. Unfortunately, this is going to be one of those "I really wanted to like it, but..." reviews. Pros: - Dale Crabtree is a great guy. Personable, funny, old school guy. - Price was very affordable: $15 Con: - It just wasn't a very good cut. I usually get my hair cut at Brownies in Oak Lawn. They are an old school barber shop that has consistently given me a great cut. If I lived in that end of town I would never have ventured afar. Since Medallion is in my backyard I thought I would give them a try. Looks like I will be making the venture back to Brownie's from now own. Bummer. read more

Real laid back. A traditional barber shop. The owner Dale has been there for 47years so he knows what's he's doing. He's not in tune with the "hip" hair cuts that's why I'm giving 4 stars. I guess that's why they have the younger a guy Sam to bring the younger crowd. A little harder to find but, the environment beats the assembly line feel of a super cuts. I have been looking high and low and in between for a barber who would listen to how I wanted my hair cut, and someone who would not bombard me with their political and religious views. I just have always wanted a good barber or stylist.....was that too much to ask? Well, I just may have found him......at Medallion Barbers (located at the Target shopping center at the corner of N.W .Highway and Abrams). I love this barber shop! I usually take my 11 year old son to the barber shop at Culwell and Sons. I tried this one and was so pleased. They gave my child a even better cut at a better price. They are super sweet too. Like an old fashioned barber shop in the Andy Griffeth show as one reviewer said. I've tried two different barbers there and both did an excellent job with my child. They give little ones bubble gum after there hair cut. I can not say too many good things about these sweet people! read more

Frank = Liar I called him asking if he provided a certain barber service. He said yes on the phone, then when I arrived he gave me 3 made-up LIES on why he couldn't provide this service. This would not be a big deal, but he INFORMED ME WHILE HE WAS CUTTING MY HAIR in the middle of the hair cut! And to top it off, he RAISED THE PRICE AS HE WAS CUTTING MY HAIR. I'm mostly bald, it's hard to give me a lousy haircut. Frank managed to. He obviously had some kind of issues the last two times he cut my hair. Dale, the owner, has hair whiter than George Jones. He's spending more and more time on his farm. I went there for about 15 years, it's hard to break a habit like that. I'm glad I did. I ended up at Floyd's, bring along some ear plugs, their desired image is super cool, strikes me as all b-s. No idea why somebody with the name of the barber on Andy Griffith would try to bring Deep Ellum to Mockingbird St. But, they give good haircuts. read more

After an unfortunate hair cut at another barber shop, I "Yelped" my way to this shop for a miracle. Jeff was more than happy to correct the embarrassing white-walls I was left with. He did a skin fade to hide the last barber's mistake while we exchanged military stories and chatted about events on the news. Called to make an appointment and asked for Paul. Was told to come on in only to find out Paul no longer works there. Travis had no interest in taking a walk-in even thought I had been sitting there for 5 minutes and he had no customers lined up. Don't waste your time unless good customer service doesn't matter to you. And avoid the old guy who can't properly take a phone call. read more

Go see Travis! My husband and three boys all see Travis and have been doing so for years. I am amazed at how he is able to connect with each one with casual conversation centering on their individual interests. (He's also good with the one who just wants to sit there quietly!) His skill is impressive as each one has very different types of hair and style preferences. This is an old school barber shop with Dale as the original owner still doing haircuts at 79 years old.
