I needed to renew a CD. Homestreet bank used to call first to remind me when it was due, and then I could just call and select the most favorable rate. Now that it's Mechanics, one of my CD's became due and I missed it, so it rolled over to 0.2% interest! yikes! Now another was due and I called the number on the notice, and after waiting 25 minutes FINALLY somebody answered and I said I wanted to renew the CD and did not appreciate waiting that long, she said, I should just have let it automatically renew!! What awful advice! I said no, I wanted to know the rates, and she said she did not have the rates, she would have to ask the local bank to call me back. I hung up and looked up the old number for Homestreet, which fortunately was still online, and they picked up on the first ring and told me the rates and helped select the best deal. So far, the local people are still helpful, but the customer service and the on-line system are really terrible. read more

Mark Mason made a lot of money selling-out his Homestreet customers and staff. I'm waiting for the staff at the local branches to quit or be fired. My tale of woe: I lost my card and ordered a replacement Visa debit card through the Mechanics national office...they issued it but spelled my name wrong. WTF? When I called to activate the card I was able to activate but not enter a 4 digit PIN. After several attempts I got booted to a CSR and told him I had activated but not been able to set a PIN. So he made me activate again (unnecessary, waste of time) and then told me he couldn't help me with the PIN. A complete waste of time...10 minutes on hold too. Then I asked them to AT LEAST send me a new card with my name spelled correctly. The CSR said he could not issue a replacement card, that I needed to do that at a local branch. That was SIMPLY NOT TRUE since I had order this card directly from this same number in the first place...the head office! read more

The transition from HomeStreet to Mechanics Bank has meant weeks of inaccessibility to my account. No replacement visa has been received, and I have still, mid-April, been unable to access my account online. Requests to change password fail, as required email from Mechanics never reaches me. There is virtually no customer service. More evidence that credit unions are best; mine is very responsive and accessible. HomeStreet used to be good, but we're in a new era now and it doesn't look good. This is not a review of any particular branch. read more

I have been banking at home street for decades. I love the human feeling that it had. The fireplace at Wedgewood. The Christmas decorations. How they helped me through my finances after my husband died. The way they asked about my dogs. Going there was a restful environment and we went there after Wells Fargo wouldn't even talk to my husband because he was in his work clothes . He had a 100,000 check in his hand at the time but he walked out. I am dismayed at what I have seen since Mechanics took over, not just at my branch. Long time Staff at all branches let go or leaving. More fees on things just to make money. Suddenly there's no one I can talk to about my loan at my branch. It's all done remotely. The person who helped me was perfectly fine but the process was a lot more confusing and impersonal remotely then when I could come in, sit down and talk to a loan person to go over my options I am trying to withhold judgement but the managerial people need to know that the reason home street had multiple new branches was their customer service. That's why they have been successful. The long term relationships with customers. Maybe all the new staff won't understand the history with the community this bank has. I am hoping after a few months I will feel differently but right now I am wondering if I should stay. I do not want to be a main branch satellite I want a full service people orientated bank. read more

If you live in the Pacific Northwest, chances are that you may have heard of this bank called Homestreet Bank, well in all probability you haven't and neither had I. They did however offer something called a Seahawks checking account and I was intrigued. Being a hawks fan and seeing a decent bonus with the account I decided to apply. This is where things went downhill. I had often heard about elitist banks who would turn down customers for checking or savings accounts, but never understood the concept. It makes sense to refuse credit to customers but why would you turn down someone's deposit . This is my first experience with it. I for one have nice credit, never missed a payment, the only black mark on my credit/Chex is maybe too many recent accounts which none of the other biggies like Chase, WF, BofA etc. ever cared for. I applied online with a large deposit and all seemed to be well, my deposit was accepted and I was asked to sign over some papers and send for a signature record. I don't hear anything for a few days, no welcome or courtesy phone call, no other communication on email. A few days later I receive a small letter from them telling me that due to my Chex report I have been denied for the account. Yowsa ! Apparently me not having assets makes me ineligible for having a checking account (it listed a few other reasons also, 5 if I remember correctly). Someone was making good use of their analyst position and justifying their pay check I see. Anyway, they said my deposit would be refunded. I sent them a letter few times, it was only when I threatened a complaint with the regulators that they actually became serious about the returning money part and involved their higher ups. They claim they had refunded my money long ago. I got my money back around 2 weeks after my initial deposit. So someone was earning sweet interest on money they didn't want for 2 weeks. When I sent them a mail telling them that my money is with me, not even a thank you for letting them know. This after apparently their higher ups in customer service were personally looking at my request. Wow, arrogance personified. Personally I have decided never to transact with Homestreet bank in my life and to dissuade all friends and family from doing so. Only slight problem is that none of my family and co-workers have ever heard of Homestreet bank. Oh well, job half done then ! read more

I have never yelped anyone ever and this Bank deserves it. I would advise not banking here. I arrived at this branch looking to open a business and filled out all paperwork necessary and were told we had to have an atm inspection before we could open an account.?? Having an ATM machine at our facility has nothing to do with opening an account. They told us the inspector has broken his ankle and it would be a couple of weeks before we would get our account. It has been 2 months now. and no one has ever called us again to finish the process. ? We walked in to the branch yesterday and they wouldn't talk to us and said someone would call us asap and that never happened. I wouldn't do business with this bank ever. This bank understands the wants and needs of its customers, and they support community, kids, and the zoo to boot. Their service offerings are good, and their fees are mostly reasonable. Their online banking is the most intuitive system I have seen. The people are personable, and they do their job well. I work late a lot, so I often have to do my banking right before closing, and the staff is always accommodating. Even if they can't stand that I do that, they never mention it. I especially like that (although financially solid) they are not tied to any corporate giant national bank. This says a lot about the company because it means that they are smart at the corporate level. As long as they stay that way, I will be a customer. read more

I took out a home loan with Home Street just over two years ago, and I was very happy with the service and how available the loan officer always was. But now they've gone and sold my loan to some bank in Texas. I chose this bank because I wanted my loan handled locally with real customer service. I am disgusted by the whole business and do not recommend this bank. read more

I love this bank (Wedgwood branch) and especially the employees, the customer service is outstanding especially from Eileen Malari and and Gina. They truly go above and beyond to make sure your problems are resolved and your banking is smoothless! My family has used their bank since it first opened and it is truly a warm welcome to use their services, time and again, and honestly makes you feel at home! I have been living in Spain teaching and Eileen Malari and Gina helped personally send me a new debit card and also found a way to renew a check I had lost overseas, I couldn't be more grateful! We joined this bank when we moved back to Washington several years ago; a friend highly recommended it. Our experience has been wonderful. We took out a mortgage through them - reasonable terms, lots of attention. We have a checking and savings and PO box with them. They are always welcoming, efficient and competent. Kudos. read more

I have been with Home Street since 2005. They have been professional, friendly, and full of integrity in the way this branch is run. They give back on community functions as well. I do not like big box banking...I am glad there is an alternative. Today I need help on the customer service phone line and I realised how hard they work to keep my information private. Huge thanks to Eileen Mallari who very quickly (30 minutes tops!) and pleasantly helped get me set up with an estate account for the sale of my mother's home - a process we'd started at a large bank (BoA) more than a month earlier before I gave up and went to my local HomeStreet Bank. I went to the bank to open a premium checking account with a postcard mail invitation and as a new customer would earned a $300 cash bonus provided I satisfied the direct deposit of $500/month from my employer for two consecutive month. In August, I went in and spoke to Daniel who was the banker and explained to him with the post card and being a self employed. He said he would check first, later returned to tell me that I would qualified as long as the deposit comes from my company account payment. After the direct deposits were satisfied, I went in about three weeks ago, Daniel no longer worked there?? so I spoke with Gina, the branch manager, first she denied completely the existence of any cash bonus offer. In her own words " we never had any such offers, maybe the lake city branch, but not our branch." I explained the offer was good for all. She then asked for the postcard which I did not have. A week later I brought in a reprint of the offer from the internet. After review, she still denied it and ask me to provide documents to prove the originating account is business, and the business account activity statements to show payroll. So I provided them(business license and statements) to her last week. She still denied me the cash bonus because in her words this is not payroll and the statements does not show company expenses like rents ( my company address is my home address so no rent)etc. On top of that, she charged me $10 monthly fees when my account actually had a balance above $2500. She told me that even for One day the account is below $2500 she can charge it. She does not want to take any responsibility or provide any service for what Daniel had said when we open the account. She is not looking for any long term relationship even after I provided the documents. All she wants are loans and not deposits, my guess. I cannot trust her and would not recommend this bank. She needs to understand Homestreet invitation card is what brought me in and to take the responsibility to build a long term customer relationship. read more

Avoid this bank!! Why do they sell loans? my loan closed 4 weeks late, ALL the terms changed during the loan process, the loan "officer" ,Bob, was rude, incompetent, blamed the problems on everyone else....the entire process was horrible!! never again!!!! read more
