I decided I would first shop the local community banks, as a local business owner, I wanted to give a community bank a chance. I called several banks in town and had yet to make a visit to any of them. Prior to visiting the branch, I received a handwritten post card from Community West Bank congratulating me on my new business and inviting me to give them a chance. After a phone call and a short meeting to visit the bank, I found myself opening up my account with them. The branch manager met with me, introduced me to staff. Discussed my budding business and my plans for the future. I got a great hometown feeling from the branch and felt secure in opening my account there. Thanks Community West Bank!

NONE of these banks have anything on these guys. Almost no wait to get assistance with a rep. NO teller counter. You sit down at a desk, one on one with your representative. I have had accounts there now for 7 months. In that time, I have had to wait maybe 3 times, for under 5 minutes, seated. I usually go to the bank 3-4 times a week, as I am a business owner. The atmosphere is relaxed. Coffee and snacks as you walk in. CWB has attentive and knowledgeable reps who get to know their customers names, businesses, and lives. They do both business and consumer accounts. My husband and I were able to secure a commercial real estate loan through CWB after our previous bank, BoA (who we had banked with for over 7 years) would only approve a loan for HALF of the amount needed. In this case, local IS better. I currently have all of our business accounts at CWB. And due to CoastHills choice in making all of the their remodeled locations impersonal with no tellers in the lobby (see AG and Nipomo), I am considering moving all the personal accounts here as well.

Almost everything was accurate on all the paperwork, although a family members name was spelled correctly on a page and on that same page a few lines down the same name spelled incorrectly. Attention to detail? I had sent an email to Jennifer Gutierrez our Escrow Officer asking if I could come in and sit down with her to review some documents and make sure they were filled out correctly. Saving us both time and money. She said it wasn't a problem and I showed up exactly when she told me to. Not sure what happened, but when I showed up, she said, what can I help you with? She acted as if I was wasting her time, and I felt like I had done something wrong. We were treated like an inconvenience when we came in for our final document signing, in fact they missed our appointment time by 45 minutes. They didn't say anything to us and no apologies. When my wife and I went in to sign documents, some paperwork got missed that they should have sent to me at least a month prior to when we were there. Then they told us if we didn't get it signed immediately it would delay our closing date. The person signing is in Los Angeles... Maybe it wouldn't have been an issue if they had provided it in a timely manner. Overall, not very customer friendly or efficient. If neither one of those things are important when it comes to something so important as Escrow, then I guess they are okay. (Yelp LA Challenge #59 of 100)
