Their rent went up and so they relocated and evolved into a specialty food store and cafe combo. Whilst my house has a few pieces from the old incarnation, I'm happy they made the transition. Personally, the food and coffee served here does very little for me. On that front I'd be inclined to give it two stars. But the specialty food store part... well that's another matter. Akin to a store in Queen Victoria Market's deli section, they have a gorgeous selection of cheeses, dips and other bits and pieces you won't find elsewhere - black rice, special sauces, fresh pasta, Bocastle gluten free pies to take home, fresh bread and coffee beans. Yummo.

The west has amazing fresh produce and the Asian markets in footscray are second to none. What was lacking was all of those little yummy wanky luxuries one likes in their cupboard. Along comes this gem and I can say that my hikes across the river or westgate to Thomas Dux for Phillipa's hot cross buns are now over. If it is on trend and food well they have it or they will get it for you. My tip is to check out their specials table as there usually is a winner or three there and buy some of their peanut butter and indulge in buying some ham jam for your baguettes for lunch. Now I am just fooding on in this review but seriously this place is worth a shop at before running that dinner party for all those northern suburbs peeps who have "ventured" over to your house for dinner!

Fox in the Corn is a beer bar that specializes in pasta. Beer and pasta??? Sign me up! There is a HUGE list of craft beers to pick from its overwhelming lol and all the reason why you'd go back! They have some wine as well and house sodas that you can request to have some vodka or other basic spirit to put in. There are 3 types of pastas to pick from and a good assortment of different sauces to pick from. My partner and i had fettuccine in creamy mushroom and leek sauce & spinach and ricotta ravioli in basil pesto and garlic panko sauce. They were both to die for. The pasta was cooked perfectly and each of the sauces had their own unique zing to it as was oh so creamy and buttery. They had a pork belly broth sauce that i so will be going back to try!!! If pasta is too heavy for you they also offer cheese and meat boards - again i am super keen to go back and try. Shout out to who i think is the owner - he was super nice, super helpful, super enthusiastic and clearly proud of the establishment. Was always on the ball with making sure the customers were right and was keen to hear on feedback of any sort. He also informed us that eventually they will be able to allow customers to buy beers to takeaway! Do yourself a favor - if you're ever in the area and don't feel like an 8bit burger then give this place a shot! I'll def be a returning customer. Good work guys!

Finding American cut brisket in Melbourne is tougher than I thought it would be. After doing a ton of research, I narrowed my list to a few butchers and decided to give Cannings Hawthorn a call. We cooked this glorious side of beef with a simple 60/40 pepper/salt rub in our kamado low and slow for 14 hours and our friends are still talking about how delicious it was. Two months ago! It's just that I sometimes lament the fact that you can't get some more interesting cuts from butchers, as well as maybe some more interesting kinds of meat.
