I went to this dump because I was told they had oxtails on sale. They were $5 a pound. I got 10lbs and was so pissed when I got home, THEY ARE NOT OXTAILS. Oxtails do not have pointed bones like goat so what the hell is this meat! They are just getting over the people there because they know they are not shopping at a real butcher. It stinks like old fish. Very hard to shop in a place with a smell like that. I had the nerve to circle the inside of the dirty grocery store thinking there would be a huge fish (or at least dried fish) section in the butcher area...nope. After my circle I realized that smell was probably old animal blood or something grosser than that. I really thought I would hurl in the parking lot when I made it back to my car. Seems to be constantly in a state of construction, even though it's officially been open for quite a while. Newly installed coolers are all being ripped out & repaired, leaving a huge gap to the right when you first come in. Not a large variety of meat -- the basics. No lamb; goat advertised but not seen. Has a cramped & not clean feel/smell. read more

I almost did not go to this store because of the reviews. My husband said let try it out for our selves and I think it is fine. The store was clean, I did not smell anything like other reviews mentioned. I'm tired of paying high prices for steak, 9.99 lb is not a deal for me. We bought NY steak, rib eyes and ground beef for way less than other stores. I'm glad we went and in future will stop by once a month for steak. It's like an old fashioned butcher shop. This is what I think of with regards to a meat market. Lot's of different meats, and really good prices. Checkout their package specials, and they will substitute (it states it right there on the ad). The store carries a good assortment of Latin and Caribbean grocery items. This is a true meat market. They don't offer a lot of higher-end cuts or many steak selections, but they have all the basic cuts of pork, chicken, and beef, as well as some turkey pieces. They also have goat, rabbit, duck and other harder to find items. They offer a wide array of fish, but it's pre-packed for the most part. Prices are great! The meat is fresh and tasty. The staff is friendly. There is a lot of selection of ethnic foods, great prices on spices and other food staples, a wide selection of canned goods, and fresh Cuban bread daily. This is an older store and definitely not the cleanest feel, but it's not full of dust and products don't feel dirty. It's about average cleanliness for a mom & pop type, mid-sized grocery store. It just doesn't have the polished feel of the larger chain stores. Good grocery bargains to be had are abounding within. read more

This is a good place to come and get your meat... mainly the chicken. Everything else is fair priced but not too far off from a Walmart. The chicken is what you'll save on mostly. I bought a family pack of chicken wings & breasts along with some imitation crab meat for 16.00. Not bad! The smell in the store is a little off but it's dead animals and seafood all through out the store, what can you expect ‍ The store reminds me of a save a lot. read more

The meat i grab here is always fresh and affordable so no complains with that. I just wish the fellas that work back there weren't so rude and overlooking. I noticed how bluntly two employees were making fun of a man and they would not help an elderly woman but made sure the pretty young girl was taken care of. I also had to wait 15 minutes on a slow day for service and was greeted and treated like im bothering them...Im sorry i thought you got paid to do this job? Bought some stuff here whilst on holidays and not only were the prices affordable but they provided great service. The store was clean (im very cautious about unhygienic and unclean stores, so this passed the test) there were no funky smells. Cashier was really friendly, really took an interest to find out about where I'm from etc and gave me good advice on where to eat out. I visited another meat market some years ago newly opened in Riverview. And as I was standing waiting to place my order there were large flies flying all around the store, on the meats, me and other patrons! And just before they took my order I said to a gentleman in front of me. These flies are flying everywhere! And he said to me once you go home and cook it that will kill everything! I said no thank you in my head! Who purchases meat that flies been flying all over it? And the workers was not even swatting at them. I left there immediately! Now l have been coming to The Meat Depot every since. My first time l came it did not have a odor. But now it has a small odor but not as bad as other meat markets. I always order Oxtails, Turkey wings, Thick bacon, Fresh neck bones & Beef stew. The Oxtails have enough of meat not cut to thin or to thick. And theirs have a good red color to it. The staff are very pleasant and polite. They always ask if they can help you without you asking them first. My deep freezer stays full of their meats. And l have never seen any FLIES in this business ever! And especially on their meats. I suggest them to anyone any day of the year regardless of the small odor. read more

After reading the good reviews about this place I decided to make the trip and check it out. It's an interesting store and does have a good variety of meat and vegetables . I left without purchase though because of the stink when I entered the store. It really does smell like something is rotten in there and it doesn't look like it's been cleaned for a long time. I wasn't going to put my family at risk to save a few dollars.Doesn't IGA inspect the stores that run under it's name ? Come on, clean it up, it stinks ! read more

Very disappointed! Ordered 20lbs of course ground pork from them. When I received the bag it looked course ground but when I started making sausage quickly realized that they sold me fine ground pork that they ran through the course grinder and then froze to make it look coarse ground. I will never spend another penny at this shop again. read more
