Same really nice…read moreand friendly staff, same great attention to detail in everything from the customer experience, décor and of course the methodical and almost scientific approach to brewing a really good coffee which will be instantly familiar to anyone who has visited the one on the Ormeau Road. This one comes with a few advantages in terms of the space. Basically this one is bigger. This has allowed them to offer more seats and expand on the coffee (without taking the focus off it) to include a small but excellent choice of food. I'm not 100% where they have sourced the food from but it is somewhere that pays the same attention to quality as they do with the coffee. I know I've seen Co Coture chocs in here before which if you check out you'll know is also the top of the top as far as Belfast chocolatiers go. What impresses me is that although some aspects will cost a small premium over most other places, the gap in quality is wider than the gap in price. The main focus quite rightly remains on the coffee, and its coffee you like you'll go a long way to beat here.

I had a Hotel Chocolat cappuccino about half hour earlier and in comparison this coffee was poor. They have all the right ingredients and equipment but it was borderline unpleasant but not awful. The problem is that with coffees now £4 and over I'm not going to try this place again - at these prices every cup must be ace. There's no satisfaction in giving poor reviews. The market had a busy buzz about it.

What sets this place apart is the sheer quality of the coffee and the great refocussing of the experience on the coffee itself. This is something I really appreciate. As a coffee lover it really hits the spot. The choice of foods is really good too, the menu would not be quite as wide ranging as many other places but the focus on quality is great and anything you order should be of top drawer quality. Finally the staff themselves are really nice and the feeling is that they appreciate coffee themselves and rather than seeming aloof about their coffee knowledge, really come across like they really want you to share their love of it.

They specialise in…read morecoffee and when I called in today Tuesday 7 June 2016 I was disappointed to find they don't serve breakfasts, only buns and cakes to go with coffee. So I left and went elsewhere for breakfast returning to Root & Branch later for coffee. Staff were extremely helpful and pleasant and I opted for an Ethiopian coffee from their 'brew bar'. I took a seat outside and a few minutes later was served my coffee. Given that it cost £3.20 I was expecting a lot but was disappointed. I particularly like mild coffee but this was just watery and bland. Although it looked pretty served on a wooden board with a glass tumbler and coffee jug, this does not justify the £3.20 price tag. The taste and volume of coffee I received was not worth £3.20. Sadly I'm disappointed and won't return. I'm just growing tired of all these trendy cafes selling grossly overpriced coffee and snacks. My coffee in Root & Branch realistically should have been £2 not £3.20. I was excited to see a nice new cafe open on Ormeau but sadly I am not impressed. There are many other Ormeau Road cafes serving better, cheaper coffee. Additionally Root & Branch don't offer dairy free alternatives such as soya or almond milk which is a let down.

It also offers sweet crepes (£4) and waffles. So I got one with ham, onion and egg and my wife opted for ham and onion. We also ordered a flat white and a cappuccino at £2.4 each. The coffees were very good too so no downsides on food, food quality, food portions, temperature and great service. It Audi has soups, toasties, sandwiches and panini. I paid on ordering which meant when we were done we could just up and go. This place has only one downside, it's a small, and narrow place inside with only two tables, with most seating on stools. It's also an ice cream parlour and a sweet shop. There's a large choice of ice cream cones to choose from too. The ice cream is Morelli's, which I can't say I've ever had, and the vivid colours put me off - they have to be artificial. They did have a pooh bear equivalent (I'm a Mauds pooh bear honeycomb fan) but really I couldn't get beyond that blue colouring.
