Hit up Mean Max with friends on what turned out to be a pretty lively Saturday night at this location. Lots of patrons, lots of chatter and laughter; looked like most patrons were enjoying themselves quite a bit, myself included. Nutshell: *loud music *excellent beer *full pours *appropriately priced *no food offerings (but you can get delivery or bring your own) *clean *multiple dart boards available Beer was great! I had three different IPA's, including one double, and enjoyed them all. Lower Wolfjaw (the double IPA at 8.2%) for $6.50 a pint was a real treat and I hit that up 2x. Growler fills on most of their beers are 15 dollars. They do have fixed daily specials for each of the different days of the week, though they are closed on Mondays. They had 13 taps flowing with a variety of beers, though nothing too outlandish. Probably a quarter of their taps were IPA's of some variety. They had one bitter, an altbier, two stouts, a red ale, one lager, one brown ale, and a Nine Pin Cider tap. Beers vary in size and price based on each one's alcohol by volume content. I think the cheapest was $5.50 for a pint and the most expensive was 7 dollars for a 10 ounce pour. Plenty of seating and we found our beertender to be quick and friendly in her service. I loved the music they played (mostly grunge era rock), but it was a bit loud. They have a thumping sound system so at times it was a bit difficult to converse with others. No worries, though, Mean Max is a keeper for me.

We sat outside and the staff were awesome at keeping us nice and warm with the propane heaters. It was in the 50s but you couldn't even tell. The staff were friendly, personable and took the time to just chat with us. Very detail oriented and knowledgeable about the beers on tap. They also have flights. Everything is served in single use cups, silverware and plates. Not sure if this is a COVID thing or normal.

    My selections.

Have nothing negative to say. Stopped in and had a five beer sampler. All excellent! Staff were helpful. Prices about average. Would return.

How could we have missed this place for nine months?!? Maybe it was the new signage that caught our attention tonight as we were on our way to check out a different brewer just a bit further south. Just visiting Mean Max is a refreshing experience. They don't serve food, other than a bowl of bar snacks that will probably make you want to order more beer. But they do allow you to bring in your own food or have it delivered to you there. While the table-top menus described 15 different brews that they make, the blackboard menu showed that only eleven of them were available on the night of our visit. But there were also two hard ciders and five wines available. We decided to take advantage of the Flight offer of five, 5 ounce samples ($8.50) to taste a cross section of the brews. Starting with the Stout No Doubt (6.1% abv) oatmeal variety, the wife and I both enjoyed its excellent coffee flavor. On to the McCord (6.7% abv), a dark porter with little head and sweeter than the stout. I really enjoyed this one, but my wife found it sweeter than she likes. Next came the Holy Bock (6.7% abv) which the bartender told us was probably the most popular of all their beers. I think its popularity is because of its more mildness in flavor. Our 4th sample was the one my wife had been waiting for, their IPA, Tahawus (6.2% abv). She really enjoyed the bitterness and the hoppyness of this brew. However, our fifth and final sampling of Skylight (5.8% abv), another IPA, but a black IPA served on nitro, she found to be too sweet and not hoppy enough. I preferred the Skylight to the Tahawus. As you can surmise, this is a place to try new brews and have a good time. Bring your non-beer-drinking friends and let them enjoy the wines or the hard cider. They even have three real dart boards. Service from our bartender was very friendly, helpful, and informative. There is no doubt (just like their stout) that we'll be returning.

This place was fairly large and smelled like a brewery in business. The beers were better than the other two nearby breweries albeit no food. Enjoyed the mixed drink of shark bait. Tasted similar to an otter pop.

We were attending Glens Falls Take A Bite event on an extremely hot and humid afternoon and decided to stop here for a little pick-me-up. The place has high top tables scattered around quite a large room with boards on the wall listing many beers and hard ciders which have become very popular... Trivia is held on Wednesday in which we did not partake and they also have dart competitions. Also in front of each bar stool they installed cell phone charging stations and hooks to hang your pocketbook/tote which I thought was a great idea. As we left I also noticed hooks on the wall to hang your bike... Great Ideas Max!

These guys have done the two things that matter most in the beer business: cultivated a great atmosphere coupled with a wonderful selection of great beer. In a world inundated with lights, lites, ultras and flavored liquors, Mean Max gives the beer lover what they crave with a varied brew menu, and the most flexible food offerings in town. No, they dont serve food here, but you can order or bring your own! The downtown Glens Falls area has a wide array of food and delivery options for those that wish to order, but lots of people make their night out a pot-luck of sorts, with everyone bringing their own dish, and sharing home made food and great beer together. No worries about the atmosphere either, they are one of the few remaining pubs where you can actually sit and have a conversation without screaming into each others ear. That alone is worth a visit if you ask me. I sound like a salesman, but its hard not to support the place that has quickly become my favorite go to location for a beer and a night out. This week, they had 11 beers on tap: a lager, blonde, bock, ipa, english pale ale, brown ale, porter, hard cider, imperial ipa, stout and an imperial stout. While they all are fantastic, I can say that the "Stout No Doubt" is one of the best ive ever had. Tl/dr: Great beer, awesome atmosphere, and 3 REAL dart boards. Definitely worth checking out. **warning to the meek, the beer is strong! So be safe.

But each of their tasting rooms has its own positives. The big one here is their parking lot - which is literally big (and free!). It's also family (kid) friendly, though that also means it can get very noisy. There's lots of open space available in nice weather. The afternoon I went, it was very busy, and I overheard one employee tell one customer that they were busier than anticipated. But every single person there was working their tail off. Food and drink still came out quickly and with a smile and friendly conversation. Be aware that the hallway for staff exiting the kitchen is also the space towards the rest rooms, so be sure to give those folks the right of way. I'm still going through their beer list in both places, and the list in this South Glens Falls location is extensive. Their food has always been high quality as well. The food & service was always just okay for me. I mostly went because others wanted to. They do have a nice outdoor dining area. My husband wanted to try it the other day and experience it. We tried to go there the other night for drinks but after standing at the bar for five minutes being ignored we left. Friday we stopped for lunch. We asked to sit by the road to people watch and the hostess said they were short staffed and were trying to seat people close together which was fine. It took our waitress a long time to come take our order, and then a long time to bring our drinks. Thank God we weren't parched or something. My husband wanted to order an IPA-they didn't have any. He ordered an Oktoberfest beer and said it was gross. I got a Brisk lemonade and it was $4.25......burgers and salads were $20+ for lunch. I told my husband it wasn't very good but he wanted to try it anyway. After looking at the menu we split the nachos. They were soggy and weird. All the toppings except the cheese sauce were on the bottom under the chips. We almost went to Mikado and wished we had even though we have been going there a lot. We got to watch it from our seat across the road. The table next to us didn't finish their food and got it boxed up. The hostess gave me their food and I told her it wasn't mine and she took it back and gave it to the right person. But if I hadn't said anything that man wouldn't have gotten his leftovers...all of these little things aren't a big deal but added up together kind of show what it is like here. I have tried it many times and rarely have a good experience. They have a nice neon sign though.

What's on tap probably changes frequently here. I had checked their list on their website a couple of days earlier, and either the site was a little old, or beers had already changed. There wasn't anything on the current list that matched my regular preferences, so I had the opportunity to select something out of my "zone." I opted for Rosalie, a mixed culture saison. It was very crisp and refreshing, with a prominent but not overwhelming floral palate. Their new location in North Hudson is huge and wonderful. Coincidentally, I just realized after reading my previous review that we were here this time on their twelfth anniversary, July 26th. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, PB! Being in Schroon Lake for a memorial visit, it seemed reasonable to travel another twelve miles north to pay PB a visit before returning home. Their parking lot was almost full at 7:30 on a Saturday night. It was amusing to notice the car license plates from so many different states (Canada is still understandingly boycotting the US). There being a 20 to 30 minute wait for a table, we managed to snag two unreserved stools at the bar. I chose to request a Paradox Helles (German style pale lager) while my wife went with a Ginger Hibiscus Cider. Both were excellent. While my wife munched on a House Made Pretzel, I thoroughly enjoyed a Pulled Pork sandwich with a side of spicy coleslaw and potato chips. I dumped the coleslaw (which I didn't find spicy at all) on top of the pulled pork and really enjoyed the combined flavors, textures, and tenderness of the pork on the toasted brioche roll. It was messy but delicious. Their pizzas looked good as I saw them pass by. Next visit may need to be on a weekday when they are less likely to be so busy.
