But I'm sure glad I found it when we visited Galena. The space is large, especially since the town is small. The staff are awesome, friendly, patient, efficient, and non-obstrusive. Their CORTADO is pretty good. Slightly tart. No complaints on the LEMONADE. MATCHA LATTE with Vanilla Syrup was okay. WiFi and bathroom available.

This sandwich shop and coffee bar has a fun industrial and vintage charm, and plenty of seating throughout the location. The location was also well lit and airy, and I loved the exposed brick walls and fun eclectic frames along the walls. The service was also excellent and the girls who worked here were so sweet and helpful! My boyfriend and I both got the reuben and our friend got a chicken wrap. Both of them said they enjoyed their meals, and I thought my reuben was excellent and much preferred to typical road trip fast food stops. It was genuinely the perfect stop midway from Nebraska to Chicago, and a nice opportunity to stretch our legs and have a refreshing and filling meal. I would definitely recommend to try Big Bill's!

We stopped by the first night to pickup some coffee, a chocolate chip cookie treat, and a box of macrons to go. The shop is absolutely adorable from entrance to exit! Even before entering we loved the adorable building with perfect blue paint with white trim on the red brick. The building is well maintained and clean. While it is small, they keep the space streamlined and open. The baked good window, the sweet treats fridge, and coffee/tea areas are all distinct with their own personalities and delicious displays. On top of the clean and inviting space, prices were reasonable for such high quality products and staff were friendly and inviting. The line can sometimes be long, but it is worth the wait. Lots to love here! Back to the food, the chocolate chip cookie didn't make it far. We ate it right outside and loved every decadent bite. The cold brew was refreshing and tasty. We ate the macrons throughout the day and loved every bite! My favorites were the lemon and pistachio. My husband's favorites were the vanilla and birthday cake. The flavors were very prominent and delicious. Yum! Our final day, we wanted to try the breakfast! While I got ready at the Airbnb, my husband went to get the 2 Empanada Meal that comes with a fruit cup. We also got cold brew coffee and a Chipa. Everything was so scrumptious and fresh! The fruit cup was a perfect healthy pair to the baked goods. The empanadas were both great. We tried the "Egg, Sausage, & Cheddar" and "Egg White, Tomato, Basil, Spinach & Parmesan" empanadas. Both were great and we couldn't pick a favorite. We were glad we got both. The chipa was also so good...unlike anything we've had before. Per their website, it is a "Savory Cheese Biscuit made with tapioca flour, Cheddar cheese, & Parmesan cheese. Gluten Free." If you have never tried a Chipa, we would recommend it! And once again, the cold brew was perfect! Galena Bakehouse has won our hearts and tummies! We look forward to stopping by the next time we are in town!

The café was extremely busy, so I completely understood that food might take longer than usual. However, after waiting about 30 minutes, only one person in our group had received their bagel, while customers who ordered after us were already getting their food. We went to the counter for assistance, but it was difficult to get a staff member's attention or receive help. After waiting another 10 minutes, someone finally agreed to remake our missing bagels. What was most frustrating was being told to get back in the long line, which extended out the door, if we wanted a refund. In the end, it took nearly an hour to receive two bagels. While the coffee and bagels themselves were good, the service and handling of the situation left us disappointed.
