Dr. Peter Rendek is the second dentist I've visited in Calgary and after my initial visit I'm happy…read moreto say he is also my current dentist :). When I first moved to Calgary I visited a dentist DT that was inconveniently located, didn't have free parking and charged exorbitant prices! I felt locked in for the 1st year after paying for the initial exam and x-rays, so I put up with it. He was a recommendation that didn't pan out, so when it was time for my annual x-rays I was determined to find a proper dentist that wasn't just out to max out my insurance coverage like the place DT. I had some luck finding qualified professionals in my area for my other medical needs on RateMDs, so once again I turned to this online review site specifically set-up for reviewing health professionals. A quick search yielded the top reviewed dentists in Calgary, #1 & #2 weren't accepting patients but #3 was surprisingly, a "Dr. Peter Rendek" (Note: he's since slipped a bit in ranking due to some harsh recent reviews that I don't agree with, read on for my perspective). He was really well received, and his reviews made him out as an honest and fair priced dentist with a great team of professionals behind him, a guy who cares about his clients and isn't just looking for a pay cheque. Sounded awesome to me! I found his clinic's website on Google, pretty plain and can probably use a bit of an update/tweak but the mandatories are there. The icing on the cake is he's located right in my neighbourhood, this was seeming too good to be true! So I went ahead and booked my appointment, I was happy I got squeezed in right away. My fiancé wasn't as lucky, she was quoted 3-4 weeks, so I must have snagged the last opening. They are open only M-Th 8:00am/9:00am-4:00pm depending on the day, so pretty limited hours and slots. I would advise booking your appointment well in advance! The clinic itself is located in a mini-commercial complex on the corner of Heritage and Elbow amongst other businesses. It's an older brick building but it's easy to get to, the parking is adequate, includes underground spots and is free! The dentist office is specifically located on the second floors northeast corner. I have posted a picture of the entrance :). Despite the building looking a bit dreary the dental clinic itself feels warm and welcoming once you let yourself in. The front end staff did a great job getting my credentials on the phone ahead of my visit to speed up the process and get me in and out efficiently. I've now visited twice and on both occasions the front end staff have been very warm and welcoming, without any lack of professionalism. I am also pleased that they offer direct submission for both my benefits and my spouse's, making my life much easier! There wasn't any unnecessary semantics, I always appreciate professionals being conscious and respectful of time. They also offer an e-mail reminder for appointments, reply to confirm. The RDH Jillian performed my cleaning/check-up on both occasions, she is very polite, professional and good at her job. I also like how she doesn't come off a judgemental or condescending like some other hygienists have been to me before; you know the one's who make you feel bad if your teeth aren't perfect? Well, I didn't have any of that here! Nothing but smiles :). As per usual dental clinic practice, the dentist comes out at the end for final examination. Dr. Rendek or Pete is a great guy; he's friendly, diligent and not afraid to answer any questions you might have. The only thing this clinic was missing is the usual TVs to watch during your apt., hopefully that's not a deal breaker for you because the people here are great, the prices are right and like the reviews indicated they're honest and care about their clients! Plus they have massage chairs which makes up for it ;). Pretty shocked by some of the recent bad press on RateMDs, I wouldn't give them much weight, check out the practice for yourself. I'm glad I did!

The business however. . . Be weary of these reviews, good reviews are incentivized with toothbrushes and negative reviews are deleted. They will call and text you non stop to book appointments and without prior discussion they will just book you in for an appointment. Definitely feels like they try to milk any service possible. I was shocked at all the work they recommended and got 2 second opinions and both other dentists said there were no issues and that this business technique is common at some clinics. Shady! I will be taking my business elsewhere and blocking their number (or else they will call me non stop I am sure).

I'd suggest you get them to call you to come when they are ready for you. plan on at least 45 minutes behind. if you do get into a room during scheduled appointmen, be sure that everyone who walks into their office after you will be looked after first. if your changing dentist because you are finally fed up, make sure you walk out with your dental records. you may never see them again.

That's right, I'm going to review my dentist…read more First, some background: I like beer. I especially like beer out of a bottle. This past Saturday I was enjoying said beverage when I banged my false front tooth on the bottle and knocked it out (classy, I know). This is not the first time this has happened. For those of you who know me, this particular tooth was bonded with a fake at the budding age of 6 when a friends' little brother threw a step ladder at me, and, in 1999; in a coffee cup incident; it was knocked loose and rebonded again. I have been going to Harker Chan and Associates for about three years and I called Dr. Harker about correcting my sudden hillbilliness Sunday morning. He graciously answered even though I called a personal number and offered to come in early the next day to get me fixed. I was in and out of his office in a half hour. To say that this man is anything short of a perfectionist would be an understatement. He is quick, professional and knows his work. His portfolio of veneered teeth is impressive; I have seen few veneers that look so natural. Now I can't review the entire practice without also talking about Dr. Chan (Dr. Chan is my regular doctor there, who rocks ps, but Dr. Harker has worked on my false tooth before and is the cosmetic surgeon, hence my call to him). Dr. Chan is prompt, lively and professional. When I was slated to have my wisdom teeth removed; without sedation, Dr. Chan had me back at work in less than a day. This guy knows his dental surgery. These men have ground, filled, bonded, poked and prodded my teeth for three years and I'm always relaxed in their chair. Their staff is friendly, smart and all have a very gentile touch. I recommend either doctor to anyone looking for a new dentist. T.

Thanks Dr. Harker for keeping my teeth looking great. Marilyn N.

As you will see from his website (not related to his practice, but Periodontics is mentioned), Dr. Yu is young, smart and very disciplined. How can you not trust someone of his caliber? When you read about the doctor, Yu know you are in good hands. When you have ridiculous talent and achievements like this guy, it's safe to say he's not a slacker and will do what he can to perfection. The office is beautiful (which includes a piano in it), the secretary is very attentive and the staff I encountered are also young and hip, appearing to actually have a good time at work. I had some major dental surgery which included my first experience with Ativan, and I can tell you that Dr. Yu and his peeps took very good care of me. I appreciated that he kept asking me throughout the surgery if I was okay and thanked me when I followed his instructions. We all even took a little stretch break half way through. He and his assistant chatted about life intermittently and had a few laughs. That actually entertained me and made me feel comfortable with them, also trusting they were still focused on the job. I received very thorough postoperative instructions and his direct contact number in case I had issues over the weekend. At this point, it's only 72hrs post surgery, but my gums look less like hamburger now and I can tell that upon healing, the job will likely be stellar. I follow-up with him in two weeks and look forward to it.
