One of the most concerning incidents involved the school initially reporting that my son had hit/pushed a teacher. After video footage was reviewed the following day, the school confirmed that this did not happen. Despite this, the accusation caused unnecessary stress and raised serious concerns regarding accuracy, fairness, and communication. When I began advocating for my child and asking questions, I was met with discrimination and unfair treatment as a parent as well. After speaking up and pushing for accountability, our access to continue attending the school was ultimately taken away, which only reinforced my concerns about how the situation was handled. Most heartbreaking of all, the experience negatively affected my son emotionally. He began questioning himself and internalizing labels no child should carry at such a young age. I understand schools must manage behavior and maintain structure, but families also deserve transparency, professionalism, compassion, and equitable treatment. I hope this school reflects carefully on how concerns involving children and parents are handled moving forward.

The children have the choice of what they want to interact with on given day during the open playtime. Activities vary week to week. The teachers are very talented and the small class sizes allow students to get the individualized attention they need to progress from their personal starting point. We consistently get feedback from their current teachers on our girls' love of learning and their intellectual curiosity. While the Montessori approach has a big impact on this, the way in which the OMV teachers and staff use this approach with the kids is the real reason for this. We started our oldest daughter at another Montessori school in the Edmonds area. We did not know what good Montessori education looked like until we arrived at OMV out of frustration with the level of teaching and progression at the other school. OMV gave our daughter the attention and help she needed to progress her abilities, and she entered 1st grade with a solid foundation that continues to serve her well. The other significant advantage of OVM is the enrichment they do with the kids. They have a naturalist that comes each week to work with the kids. My daughters loved this time, so much so that they have maintained a connection with this outdoor school and continue to do camps and classes with them. They also get instruction in a foreign language (Chinese), yoga, and music. It is hard to find another school in the area that has such a well rounded curriculum for little kids. While my younger cried because he was left alone in the other part of the building. When I asked about it they negated that it happened, but my kids told me, now that I see another parent with this situation. I realized it was true! He cried every time we were on the way there and when he saw the place, I realized he was getting traumatized, but he couldn't talk much so when his brother finally told me (since I started to ask him what was going on) did anyone read that paperwork about the CPS... that is so scary!
