The Club at Ironwood is a semi-private country club that offers public access for higher green fees…read morethan members pay. The club offers an 18-hole (par 71) layout with five sets of tees (black, blue, white, gold, and silver), a driving range, a putting green, and a clubhouse/19th hole restaurant. Maybe I went in with too high of expectations, but I was a bit disappointed at the course conditions for it being a country club. Tee boxes were overgrown and felt more like teeing up on short rough rather than manicured, short-cut grass. Greens were slow, made worse by the recent aeration that left every putt even more slow and incredibly bumpy. And, at least from the back tees, several holes require you to hit blindly over a hill, so it's difficult to see the hole's route or where your ball ends up. At the end of the day, you're playing golf, which is great, and this is one of the few courses in Staunton, but I wouldn't return to play here again.

The rates vary by day or time of day. This course is really nice for a public course. They have good pro shop and bar /restaurant. I would play here again.

The day I played, no wait AT ALL on a single hole nor was there anyone behind ME. I will say tho: MAKE SURE you stay on the fairway especially on, I believe, the 9th hole. I hit my 2nd shot into the brush on the left and it was like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Will DEFINITELY go back and play again! P.S. it is a bit pricey. However, if you do go and play, have fun and enjoy the round!!!

Some key things to note:…read more - At 3,850 feet, the highest course in the State of Virginia - Access is only available to members, guests and registered resort guests - 50-mile views of the Shenandoah and Rockfish valleys - Surprisingly level mountaintop terrain My ears popped going up and down the mountain to the golf course. A good friend is a member, so that made me a guest. The mountain views are stunning and gorgeous. When it comes to walking, the level mountaintop terrain is true... When golfing, the hell with their level mountaintop. With their beautiful and super fast greens, the ball never stops rolling. A course like this requires precision and skill. Miss a shot or approach from the wrong angle and you can guarantee your next shot very far from the hole and in some cases, off the green. If you suck at golf like I did, you'll need lots of golf balls. Come prepared. Finding golf balls off of the rough are nearly impossible. My only gripe was that the greens were hard so approach shots didn't hold well. If you're a golfer and you're visiting Wintergreen and have the opportunity to play, take it. Bring your camera. You'll find some great views you'll want to snap.

Road tip call in advance and book a teatime what you see online may not be as accurate as you think. Call the pro shop and book your timeslot at least a week in advance to ensure you can get in because this is a very busy golf course. Everyone here at the course were welcoming and very friendly. We played the "Tuckahoe" nine holes. The course is pretty pricey, but you do get what you pay for the greens are great and we had no issue navigating which way to go while we were here driving the golf cart. We ended up paying $110 for nine holes on Saturday at 10 AM. The views here are amazing. It is hard to play without stopping to take photos of the mountains surrounding this course. Most holes are par for three and five. It is very manageable for any new golfers. Many of the holes are straight away, but there are lots of heels to navigate up and down while trying to get on the green. Again, if you have time make this place somewhere to stop even if you can't have a teatime in advance just come up have lunch and just enjoy the views. Can't wait to be back to play another course.

I had an incident with Kathy Ballard this evening while dining at the Tavern ( restaurant on site). My niece was playing on the putting green which is located adjacent to the outdoor dining area. Several children frequently play in this area while their parents dine. Tonight Kathy came down from the pro shop to tell my niece's mother that her child could not play in the area because " the Fluvanna HS Homecoming kids being on site and ruining the area with their high heels" WTF does this have do do with a 4 year old playing? Kathy made no sense and she clearly took her anger out on an innocent 4 year old black kid. Yesterday I was at the same location and a white family had 3 children playing on the same putting green, doing cartwheels on greens. No one came to say anything to these children. I sat there for over 2 hours and watched these kids do whatever they wanted. Spring Creek Golf Club has NO diversity and they make it known that they so not welcome minorities.

The whole course was pristine and so beautifully maintained. I loved the tall pines on the course as it gave the feel of playing golf in the North Carolina pines, except you're one state further north in Virginia.
