We had our wedding reception Fall 2021 at the Crystal Ballroom. We fell in love with this venue…read moreright away when we visited and heard the sweet story about how the owner renovated it to surprise his wife for their anniversary. The decor reminded me a classic elegant movie. The planning process was a little stressful, but Amy was super friendly and really seemed to want to make us happy. The food was tasty, but I wish we could've tried more of it before choosing our menu. (We could only try 2 entrees and none of the super long hors d'oeuvres list. They also didn't have photos to look at, which would've been a decent alternative to trying the food.) On wedding day, the servers took away my plate before I ate any of it, after I specifically asked them not to. And they also told my grandmother there were to to-go boxes. I understand if I wasn't the bride, but that was pretty frustrating considering the amount of money we spent on the reception.

The food was yummy- the risotto was my favorite. Although I usually don't like pesto, I enjoyed the pesto here. The desserts- WOW! What a spread! The key lime, fruit Tarte, tiramisu cake, and the eclair were my favs! But the brownie bite, cheesecake, caramel, and pana cotta were also great. Also- there is street parking as well as a public garage around the corner- I think it's $2 for 1 hour or less, $3 for 2-3 hours, and I'm not sure what the prices are above that. But very reasonable for Chicago area.

The space is gorgeous on its own -- not a blank slate at all -- so we didn't need nearly as many decorations or flowers as we did at other venues we considered. Our guests raved all day about how beautiful and unique the building was. One of the biggest advantages is that the entire venue is yours for the day. There are no other weddings or events happening at the same time, which makes everything feel calm, special, and centered on your celebration. We had a Sunday brunch wedding, held our ceremony downstairs (very cozy and intimate), and our reception upstairs in the ballroom. The flow between spaces was seamless, and the ballroom floor is amazing for dancing. The sound system was excellent -- speeches and music were crystal clear. Gretchen was wonderful to work with throughout the planning process. She provided vendor recommendations, kept us on track to meet deadlines, and answered all of our questions. We used J&L Catering for our food and Schaffer's for alcohol, and both were excellent and the liquor from Schaffer's was a significant cost savings. Another huge bonus: so many essentials are included with the rental, such as tables, chairs, silverware, and plates. At other venues, those items can be surprisingly expensive to source. Logistically, this location is hard to beat. There are several hotels and great restaurants within walking distance, making it incredibly easy for our out-of-town guests to enjoy an entire weekend in Evanston. Our local guests appreciated that parking is free in Evanston on Sundays and close to the venue. There are also plenty of bathrooms on the same floors where all the events take place -- a small detail that makes a big difference for guest comfort. Finally, it felt meaningful to support a historic building and philanthropic organization rather than a large hotel chain. Overall, we highly recommend The Woman's Club of Evanston as a premier wedding venue in the greater Chicagoland area. We couldn't imagine having celebrated anywhere else.

It is a gorgeous old mansion with deep roots; the manager (Gretchen) is kind, reliable, and so easy to work with; the preferred caterer we used (Catering by Michaels) was raved about by our guests; and the gift of bringing your own alcohol was huge. Our guests kept commenting on the uniqueness of the space, how great it was to have a pianist playing during our cocktail hour on the first floor, and how joyful and bright the ballroom looked. It was honestly beyond anything I imagined. A few extra things of note - our guests stayed at the Graduate Evanston which is barely a block away (no shuttles needed!); there is a huge parking garage across the street so nobody was looking for parking; and have I mentioned how beautiful the space is? I wish I had a reason to throw a huge event again - I would go back to the Women's Club every time. Huge thank you to Gretchen and her team!

The bartenders and staff were outstanding--friendly, attentive, and truly professional. They helped make the entire experience seamless. The venue comfortably accommodated all of the guests without ever feeling crowded. I especially loved the kitchen and serving area, which was thoughtfully designed. It gave guests plenty of room to serve themselves and added an upscale touch to the event. The tables and décor were beautifully done, and the entire venue was bright, spotless, and well-maintained. The restrooms were also exceptionally clean, which is always appreciated. I had the opportunity to speak with the owner, Alma, who shared a little of the venue's history. Learning that it's a family-owned business, with her children helping to run events, made the experience even more special. Their professionalism speaks volumes about the pride they take in their business. There is a small parking lot, with additional street parking available nearby. Overall, this venue exceeded my expectations. If you're planning a wedding, birthday, retirement party, or any special event, I highly recommend giving this place a look. They truly know how to make an event feel first-class.

The decor and overall design created the perfect atmosphere for our celebration, and our guests kept complimenting how nice everything looked. It was exactly what we were hoping for, and the venue played a big part in making the event memorable. Unfortunately, the way the event ended left a disappointing impression. As our rental time was coming to an end, we felt extremely rushed to get everyone out. We were told that if everyone wasn't completely out by the end of our reserved time, we would have to pay for an additional hour. Because of that, instead of enjoying the last few moments with our guests, everyone jumped in to help clean up and get out as quickly as possible. On top of that, security was actively telling guests to leave, which made the end of the party feel stressful and uncomfortable rather than allowing us to wrap things up naturally. I completely understand that venues have schedules to keep and rental times need to be respected. However, there is a difference between enforcing policies and making customers feel rushed. A little flexibility or a more customer-friendly approach at the end would have made a huge difference, especially after renting the space and having such a positive experience throughout the event. Overall, the venue itself is outstanding, and I truly loved everything about it. The only reason I'm not giving it a perfect review is because of how the event concluded. If the staff handled the end of the rental with a little more grace and understanding, this would have easily been a five-star experience.
