Much like its spiritual cousin in fictional queens nyc, McMarenn's is a small family owned establishment who's determination, grit, and inventiveness, far outweigh any concerns the proprietors may have about copyright law.
If you want to make it, you have to do whatever it takes (I guess). In the case of McMarenn's that includes selling beer and mixed drinks to go along with their hamburgers and sandwiches. Their signature offering is the 10 or 15 sauces that they proudly display on the counter. These are available to be added to any sandwich and include your regular mustard and ketchup staples, as well some exotic surprises like "Mexican sauce".
Since the person minding the counter spoke no English, I basically let her choose whatever she thought was good. Which was a grilled Panini with salami, something breaded, grilled peppers, mozzarella, and mustard. It was very big, well grilled, and overall quite decent. If I could communicate better, it probably would have come out more to my liking. But I can't deduct any points for that. I topped it off with the Heineken. Altogether I think it came to 7 1/2 euros. A good deal in my book.
Lacking much of the square footage and all of the Soul Glo of McDougal's, McMarenn's still packs a punch. Sure they may be taking some liberties with the logo, but nobody in Ottaviano cares and neither do I. read more
