I greatly enjoyed working with Kaily, a framer with technical expertise and terrific aesthetic sensibility. With Kaily's assistance I was able to compare frame styles and materials, mat colors and combinations, glass choices and sealing techniques. Kaily offered great suggestions that really moved us along from discussing my vague ideas to making decisions that moved the project steadily closer to the attractive and thoughtfully framed pieces I hoped for. I never felt rushed. I felt very welcome in the studio shop. The staff (owner and associates) worked as a team to bring the project together. My artworks are beautifully framed using quality materials that enhance and protect the pieces. The framing materials and style coordinate with my living room decor in a harmonious way. Enjoyed a delicious lunch at the cafe, which was under renovation the last time we went. Highly recommend the chicken sandwich. The coffee was also out of this world--maybe our highlight of the day. Very whimsical to watch all the guests walking around draped in Andrea Bowers protest ribbons (which were also at the NMWA!), and the rainy weather added to the ethereal experience. There are free umbrellas in the arrival hall. They cap the guests per day so it never feels crowded; oftentimes, you're the only visitor in a room. Only downside is the weird cult-ish vibe of the greeters at the arrival hall. Both times they've been aloof and unfriendly. But once you make it into the main area, everyone we spoke to was lovely. Service is pretty spotty unless you're indoors on the guest WiFi! There is ample parking and they have shuttles that can take you back to your car from the main area.

There are 3 levels, and on the ground floor there are models of old torpedos. The rebirth and repurposing of an old factory is very meaningful, as it is now a haven for local artists. I understand with old architecture there may be constraints, but given how popular this place is, it is fair to ask.

The artists in this little shop have a schedule rotation for interacting with customers. The artist I worked with was very nice, and had no problem helping me pick out art that wasn't even hers. There's art classes for children and adults as a "Sundays at the Art Center" program. That particular event is fun. And free. Every Sunday, you can go to the center and have free drinks (coffee or a soft drink) and cookies and see whatever exhibit is there that particular week, as well as listen to guest artists talk about their works. There is an exhibit going on here now that I loved! It is called "International Cocktail Collection" and is a series of pastel paintings that incorporate drink glasses (mostly of the martini kind) used in unusual ways.

I had a bad experience with Quinn's Auctions, but they addressed and mitigated my concerns…read more 1) I am a regular customer with Quinn's Auctions. I won a lot at their recent auction. One of the music boxes was dropped on the floor completely shattered by their staff Samantha, while she was inspecting it. I decided not to pick up the lot and request a refund 2) Two items in the lot are music boxes; which DO NOT play music :-( It was NOT mentioned in the subject line, but only in fine print in their auction listing. It's easy to overlook and I overlooked it. In my opinion, it is not ethical to sell music boxes which do not play music, and mention in fine print. The item was accidentally shattered by their staff, prior to picking it up. Hence, I requested a full refund. It took a while and follow ups, but they processed my refund. They also assured me, they will issue refunds promptly in future.

The final straw was a vintage reel of film for a Republican convention which, a year later, has not come up for auction. My numerous emails have gone unanswered. At the time of the consignment, David Quinn commented on its value for scrap metal. SO unprofessional! I am filing complaints with the AGO, BBB and any other agency that governs auction houses.

The main cafeteria is between the east and west wing on the basement and so is the main gift shop. Parking is paid on the street.
